Custom Score Icons
« on: December 22, 2023, 04:46:21 AM »

Please tell me where I can find the original file with this White Stripe of kills. Can I change it to my own symbol? I don't fully understand this score system. Are these icons tied to any countries? I found the original score.tga, but some of the score icons that appear in the game are missing. It seems that most countries, including those from Forgotten Countries mod, have such White Stripes in the Debriefing.

I can't remember where I got it; I can't find it in the file extractions I've done from several game versions. It's Score2.tga, and resides in the same folder as does Score.tga. Here's what my tweaked version looks like, done a bit over a year ago, where white was made blue:

If you have the Il-2 Selector, set it to dump mode, play a mission to get these kill markings show up in your briefing, then find the file in the "dump" folder created in your game's main folder.

Thanks, I think I've figured it out a bit. I used your file with Blue Stripes and it really works in my game. However, I haven't quite figured out how to get score2.tga to appear in my files. Did I understand correctly that I have to do the mission in the Stock Version in the IL-2 Selector? And what kind of "dump" folder is this, I'm hearing about it for the first time. Should it appear exactly in the root folder? Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Assuming your Il-2 Selector.exe has a check box labeled "dump"...

Check that box, fire up the game from the start button in its window, play any mission which will yield the desired kill icons in the mission results page, then quit the game, deselect the dump mode check box, then save/exit the Selector.

Now, if you have your new version of Score2.tga in a mod folder, first thing to do is rename it with a preceding "-" character BEFORE running the game in dump mode. Else the dump folder will contain the modded file, not the stock file. Dump mode simply writes game resources it loads. If you run subsequent dump sessions, even if a file is different it will not overwrite what's already been written to the dump folder.

The dump folder resides in the game's root, or parent folder. The folder structure within mirrors that of the game's scheme. Which makes it easy to create mods.

Thank you, I understand. I probably don't have a check box labeled "dump" in the IL-2 Selector. What you described reminds me of ClearCache=0 when the downloaded skins then appear in the Paintschemes/Cache folder. I used your score2.tga and added the icons I wanted, everything works fine. The game might somehow cut out those original score icons from the gray background, because my custom icons appear in the game with a gray background, but I've masked it so it's almost invisible.

You are still running selector 3.1 I would suggest that you update your selector to the latest version that you can find here https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,16403.0.html
the selector is compatible also with older versions of the game and you will be able to use the dump mode

Thank you very much, everything works. This is a very useful feature. It turns out there is also score3.tga
