New monitor
« on: January 20, 2024, 01:33:40 PM »

Hi guys,
I'm really hoping that somebody can help me because I've been tearing my hair out for over a week.

We have a new pilot joining our squad.  We have our own version of the Game   BAT v4.2.2 hotfix 4 which works beautifully.

I copied the game onto an external drive for transportation to our new pilots house.  Before going I copied the game BACK onto my own computer and launched it.  IT works beautifully so the copy on my drive is clean and fully functional.

When I got to my friends house and saw his monitor my heart sank a little because I know how sensitive this game is to the correct screen resolution.  He has a curved panoramic screen 34 inches wide by about 11 inches high  with a 21:9 ratio.  Recommended resolution of 3440 x 1440

I set the resolution to 3440 x 1440 in the config file and launched the game.  We got the Blue BAT front panel. The screen changed resolution so that we now had a vertical black bar down the right and left side.  BUT then the game collapsed back to the desktop.

I tried a couple of different resolutions but nothing has worked.

I gladly offer up my best milking goat and two top egg laying hens to whoever knows what the problem is. Joking! I don't have goats or hens but it's the thought that counts.  LOL

Cheers

My monitor has exactly those dimensions, Gigabyte G34WQC A. Attached are a piece of my config.

[window]
width=3440
height=1440
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=0
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=1
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=0
Use3Renders=0
WideScreenFoV=1
UIColor=0
UIDetail=0
UIBackground=rnd

Try these and see!

Before you copied over that BAT version?

Did that PC ever saw an Installation of IL 1946 before?
Just asking, at my side such virgin straight copy jobs failed.
They only worked out after installing a CD version somewhere (Registry) on my new PCs/Lappi.
It even happened to me when I had to repair and reinstall Windows.
Dunno, Steam or GOG? These digital stuff should do the registry as well.
Having this done, enables you to use whatever copy of a Game on your Game drives.

If I'm wrong, correct me

For me a copy always worked, just needed to change the Config.ini file.
I always do make a Profile for the game in the AMD/Nvidia control panel, so maybe that helps.

Hi Tobias

No there's never been any version of IL2 loaded on Frank's computer before.

However, I have loaded this game (from an external portable drive) onto at least eight "il2 virgin" computers before without ever having this issue.

I'm emailing Frank now asking him to change the config file as suggested about and we'll see where that takes us.

All fingers and toes tightly crossed

OK Frank has changed his config file although there was only one difference and that was Fullscreen=1.  I had it set at 0

But still the game will not launch.  This has now been two different copies of the game both of which are clean., so I'm convinced that the issue lays within his computer somewhere.  He has 8GB of ram and a pretty good video card so I'm scratching my head.

Hi guys,

Well it's been a while since the last post on this subject and a lot has been going on in the background trying to get Frank's game up and running...all to no avail.

I decided to call in the help of a friend of mine who is quite tech savvy when it comes to IL2.  However, before he had a chance to go round to Frank's house, Frank sent me an email.

Apparently he had another totally unrelated issue that required him to re-install his WINDOWS.  After he'd done that he tried IL2 and... BINGO...it launched!

At this point and if it were possible, I'd set off a fireworks display.

So it wasn't the game at all but a corrupted WINDOWS

Computers....you've gotta luv 'em
