My current old PC has NVIDIA GTX 970 and BAT has worked just fine with this card for several years; although it did require tweaking few settings in the NVIDIA control panel per recommendations found here on SAS.

Now I'm having a new PC built & my guy recommended the AMD RX 7900XT over the NVIDIA RTX 4080. I've never had a PC with an AMD card, just NVIDIA cards.

After perusing some other posts, I'm concerned that I'll run into graphics issues with BAT with this AMD card.

I don't really want to have to do extensive research or experimenting with settings to get the game appearance up to speed.

Can anyone give me some advice on this issue?

If you don't have major budget constraints and If smooth running of IL-2 is essential for you then I would stick to NVIDIA

OpenGL support with RX 7000 series cards on IL-2 is still an open issue, therefore the only valid answer from this forum can be NVIDIA, by all means.

OK. Thanks very much for everyone's advice on this matter. The RTX 4080 it is.

After I get the new machine, my next question will be what config.ini & NVIDIA settings to maximize the IL-2 BAT experience.

well with this type of GPU and I suppose an adequate CPU and RAM you dont have to worry much just max out your conf.ini as explained here https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=9756.0
Equally for the Nvidia control panel

IL-2 issue on AMD GPU's is fixed with the next driver release (within a week or so). It adds "Perfect" mode back to options and fixes clouds corruption.
The issue was that game queries for GL_ATI_fragment_shader extension, but actually uses a different extensions for shaders.
Just make sure the exe name is il2fb.exe

I hope so, and if it's not a problem, can you send us a link that says about it?
It would be nice if it was finally resolved... I bought an AMD graphics card right at the time of the driver problems and the only thing I can use are drivers that are probably a year and a half old.

Ouch, that's weird.
May I ask which extension the game is using instead of GL_ATI_fragment_shader which it queries for?
Who knows, maybe it's something we can cure with reverse-engineering il2fb.exe.

Just make sure the exe name is il2fb.exe

Wait... are you saying that ATI drivers use code branches depending on the executable's name?
In a hardcoded fashion?
I'm trying to think of something scarier than this but memory fails me.

Who knows, maybe it's something we can cure with reverse-engineering il2fb.exe.

It just uses the shaders of OpenGL Compatibility. If you are going to reverse-engineering il2fb.exe, then just hard-code that value of GL_ATI_fragment_shader extension check to be true always

It is common to all vendors: Nvidia, Intel and AMD, Qualcomm,.. consider it a workaround for misbehaving games.
