Because I used to love to play War Thunder the most
However, the masterminds of War Thunder ruined the game, which is why I came to SAS

Till recently, I was flying IL-2 1946 and Aces High in realistic with a mouse...it can be done.
@the-frenchresistance, on Mission4today.com there's a download by Blammo on mouse flying.

Took a bit of fuddling to get it to work for me, but persist with it.
There is nothing like this game for content and playability,  you can recreate air battles from pretty much any conflict on the last 110 years.

Mousejoy aka virtual joystick is perfectly valid for comfortable virtual flying. Some guys are using it a lot for online play.

It's also a good substitute if your joystick is broken, or you want to play on laptop somewhere away from home or lying in a bed or on a coach.

It doesn't turn the game into an arcade like warthunder though because original sim controls remain, i.e. your input goes to flight controls

As you say … any thing is possible, however playing a combat flight sim like il2 without a joystick obviously removes another level of realism and does reduce the experience to the level of an arcade game … IMHO of course. Given the effort some in this community have put into improving the basic (albeit rather old ) game, you can see why they might be a little miffed at this dumbing down of what can be a great flying/combat experience.

BUT …. When all is said and done …. It is only a GAME at the end of the day 😉

Of course. When you move around a multi-tonne machine with a little movement of your wrist this feels not quite right.

But as I said, this could be a handy solution in various circumstances.

I discovered this method when my good PC set went tits up and I had to play on laptop without the ability to connect HOTAS to it

In the good old days, it was a typical "excuse" after being shot down: "Hey, not fair, I'm flying with a keyboard!"  8)

Saying that my first online kill in this game (23 years ago, I guess?) was with a keyboard. My Il-2 vs Bf 109, head-on.  :o
