Recommendation for Creation
I believe that the existing Casablanca class escort carriers will provide an ideal base for creating the Sangamons
Here is a comparison to explain their similarities:

Sangamon Class

Casablanca Class
Casablanca Sangamon
Length oa - 156m Length oa - 169m
Beam Hull - 19.86m Beam Hull - 23m
Beam Flight Deck - 33m Beam Flight Deck - 35m
Draft - 6.32m Draft - 9.8m
This makes the ships very similar indeed. The Sangamons can be stretched, widened and deepened from the Casablanca class ships.
Profile wise, the main differences are:
- The funnels which need grouping aft on the flight deck
- Additional AA guns forward on the bow
- Removal of the 5 inch gun aft, replacing it with two sponsons for AA guns
- Changes to gun galleries along the Hull
- Square openings in the Hull at the mid section

I don't think too many changes are needed overall and I believe this conversion would be quite a simple job.
I really want to portray these ships as they play an important role in the Philippines Campaign.
These four ships formed the core of "Taffy 1", the southern escort carrier group in the campaign. These ships fought against the Japanese Fleet off Samar and suffered some of the earliest recorded Kamikaze attacks of the war on Oct 25th 1944.
I hope this was an insightful request and I hope somebody is up to the task, especially since we are approaching the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Leyte Gulf
Thanks,
