Lack of ships
« on: July 07, 2024, 12:38:37 PM »

Hello all,

I have a request: I have all components an BAT-patches installed properly, everything works fine.
BUT: When i fly the Pearl-Harbor Mission, there is a lack of ships in the harbor, e.g. there si no battleship-row at all, just a tanker and about four smaller ships.
Also when i fly a campaign, there are almost no ships around the carriers.
Can anyone tell me what to do?

Thanks in advance!

just edit the mission file in FMB and you can add as many ships as you like (if your system allows)

Hi and thank you very much for your answer.
But what I mean is that ships are missing from the pre-made missions, such as the Pearl Harbor mission with the P-40B. It seems as if some setting is not displaying or allowing the ships. Is there anything that can be adjusted in the conf somewhere?
Do you have all the ships in the harbor for the Pearl Harbor mission?
Thanks again in advance

You realize that these mission were made 20 years ago before there even was an idea of any mods and when computers were operated with coal and steam?

These missions (any mission) are hand made. There is no "auto-generation setting" :)

mision4today.com for example has a ton of populated Pearl templates and missions.  (But still, you could always build better and more detailed ones these days)

Kalli I would suggest for you to spend some time in studying how the mission file works so that you can change it in the way you like it. The knowledge base at mission4today has excellent documentation and now you also have the mission building tool from mr Uber

Dear Vampire, dear Frankie,
Thank you very much in advance for your answers. I was just surprised because like in many other missions the ships used to be there and now they aren't. That's why I thought that some parameters might be set incorrectly. I'll try to get to grips with mission building, although unfortunately I have no idea about it. Nevertheless, thank you very much again!
Best regards

This mission set is a lot closer to real life events...it is quite old, so may need some tweaking. https://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=69There likely has been a bunch of ships added since then you could swap.
IIRC it worked on my BAT about a year ago. You might need to create a reduced air.ini for better performance.
Will play with it myself later this week.

Tore has a Dec. 7th Mission or two. Somewhere in this thread, his work is always awesome!

There is also sewa-rat's 44th campaign with the first mission being Pearl Harbor. I don't remember the ships much though, but you may find something you can work with.https://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=4301

I've checked the stock pearl harbor mission and yes, there are only a sub, 3 destroyers, anonther ship, and a cruiser. If you did have anything missing it'd be in your log file (if it didn't crash the game outright, if anything was missing).

To summarise, Vampire_pilot  is right. An ancient mission, just not populated very much.

Hello and thank you for your answer. I was just surprised because all the ships used to be visible in this mission and not anymore. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the log file at all. and unfortunately not with the mission editor either. Is there a direct link for it? Tore's missions are almost all offline, which is a shame. Many greetings, Kalli

One more question: Is there a really good campaign that you can recommend and that is fun to play through?

Hm, not sure then, I wonder if you remember a different mission, or maybe someone had updated the stock one?
I wouldn't waste your time worrying about an error-likely a dead end.

Full mission builder is one of the buttons on the main game load screen. As the others said M4Today has some good resources, and you can always load an existing mission and tweak it (ex, replacing planes, ships, vehicles-fairly straightforward and the layout is easy to use)

I have a bunch of Tore's missions, and folks here in general are very nice about uploading their copies of stuff if a link is down. I'll upload the paearl harbor one tonight, as well as any others of his you want, if I have them downloaded-just shoot me a PM if that's the case.

Campaigns-everyone's taste is different. Depends what you play this sim for, have a historical interest in, etc. What do you like? I'd start with browsing the BAT  sections on this site and M4T.

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/board,265.0.html
Browse whichever era you'd like from the 4 on top (DOF, TGA, WAW, JTW)

Mission4Today is awesome as well! Here is their BAT ection.
https://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&c=195

Most of the missions from the common missions section (either SAS or M4t)will work in BAT too. (Just watch what the author says about the game version the developed it for, ex, DBW campaigns may need reworking to play in BAT, but pretty much anything else is usually OK.

Found a version of that M4T Pearl Harbour Mission reworked for BAT
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,56581.msg741989.html#msg741989
I would probably go with this as a starting point.

A Bunch of Tore's campaigns

I haven't managed to find that one mission i'm afraid..must not have it anymore. Best of luck with your search!
