Jet Age A-10's and P-47's act/performe weird
« on: November 03, 2024, 09:51:17 AM »

Just a few things I noticed while setting up a QMB flight in Jet Age...

Did a fight between P-47's and A-10's...

First of all, both of the P-47D-40 and D-30 in Jet Age have a significantly lower top speed than the P-47D-40 and P-47D-30 in WAW.   100% everything they get 275mph after 5mins of straight flight in the Jet Age, and 320mph+ for the same conditions in WAW....

Also, A-10's will fire their AIM-9's, but keep flying on straight after the pass like bombers would, and not maneuvering to engage, or even defend against attacking fighters.

This the thread where it comes from:

my guess, without checking, is that they are type armored Stormovik to get a desired ground attack behavior. The downside is, they are no dogfighters and like to ignore threats. That's just how the AI works.

As for the P-47, I can look up what kind of FM they are using. Most likely some "stock" variant. if you would have asked me, I would not have guessed we have P-47 in JTW. Their life and use after WW2 was really limited. Most likely some worn out old trainers or COIN buckets... that would account for the FM :P

As expected, TypeBomber and TypeStormovikArmored (among other operations specific types). This is no fighter in any way and AI will not act as one. Which, if you think about it, is a desired behavior in a bigger setting with all kinds of aircraft around. The A-10 should keep to its task, not chase supersonic Migs.
It's a good ground attacker. Not completely "weird", I think.

Re: P-47 FMs. They are indeed different. JTW uses a modded FM as well, just a different one. (how many are there even....) I'll align that to be the same in the future.
