where do i find the pilot careers folder and how do i distinguish between campaign files and career save files? i have for example a burning streak campaign save but that campaign also comes with the base game

Your pilots and their campaign progress data are in users. But it is encrypted and not acessible to editing.

The campaign mission data files are under missions/campaign/...

so how am i supposed to transfer saves to another installation?

You can try to just copy the pilot folder from one install to the other manually adding the entry for the pilot in the file all.ini in the user folder. While this will work well with static campaigns it may cause glitches in dynamic campaigns (Dgen/DCG) as this needs a more complex set of files to work and any error you may have will derail the ongoing campaign.  Needless to say backup the user folder before proceeding

You need to just copy both. The whole users folder and the whole missions folder.
