FMB problems in WAW 4.3
« on: December 28, 2024, 03:38:03 AM »

Hi

I have severe problems using FMB in Waw in 4.2.3 and 4.3, haven't used FMB much in older WAW versions.
FMB in TGA worked fine in BAT 4.2.2 with hotfix 4.

The testing below was with a mission created using the Grecia_Africa_Jir map, the actors.static for the Grecia_Africa_Jir is only 818kB and the mis-file is only 79kB.

FMB problems tested with new Selector in TGA
Manual at 640MB RAM, not all 3D objects show only the icons at 1:st opening of mis-file.
Manual at 512 RAM, all objects display ok at 1:st opening of mis-file.
Auto 512-128 RAM, not all 3D objects show only the icons at 1:st opening of mis-file.
Auto 256-64 RAM, not all 3D objects show only the icons  at 1:st opening of mis-file.

FMB problems tested with new Selector in WAW
Manual at 512MB & 640MB RAM:
1:st opening of mis-file: Only moving vehicles and planes show. No static 3D objects or their icons.
2:nd opening of mis-file: Moving vehicles and planes show, and some static 3D objects, but for some only their icons.
3:rd opening of mis-file: Moving vehicles and planes show, and some static 3D objects, but for some only their icons.
4:th opening of mis-file: Moving vehicles and planes show, and sometimes all static 3D objects.
Sometimes its nedded to open the mis file 6-7 times to get everything displayed.

I have an old PC with WindowsXP and 4GB RAM.

Flying the missions are no problem only working with them in FMB.

Any ideas what to do making FMB work better for me in WAW?

Thanks in advance!

My two cents in XP i got better performances using selector version 5.1.2 with static memory set at 512 instead of the version 5.2.2 with dynamic memory settings that every once in a while gives some erratic errors and/or crashes.

So would Selector 5.1.2 be bettet than 5.2.2 on manual?

Is 5.1.2 the version that was in previous BAT?
Because as I wrote I had the same problem in WAW 4.2.3.

I am not surprised that you have problems using BAT-WAW in windows XP as this module really demands plenty of resources that with XP memory limitations of 2.somethiing GB (even though you have 4GB  XP will never be able to use it all) will most likely overload system capacities.

I think that it is already excellent that you can run missions as in my case they really become a slide show

I don’t hink so, I’ve tested Selector 5.1.2 with default settings and it didn’t solve the problem.
FMB in WAW is probably to much for my old PC.

If you have any ideas that I could try please let me know.

Perhaps you could try reducing the number of maps available in your all.ini file?  I noticed that when I did this with my air.ini file (got rid of trainer aircraft and others that I never fly) my 2048 skins loaded much more quickly and my installation seemed "snappier".
Not sure if a similar advantage would be gained by reducing the number of maps but I'd imagine the fewer the number of maps to choose from the easier the load on FMB.

Reading this....

...I also think that you got out of memory...multiple openings add loading and what is just 'loaded' in your rig ram....

I also could think to try reducing the numbers of aircrafts....try to use a WAW test air.ini with only a couple of plane....

I’ve already made a light air.ini.

Off course, the golden rule always look in the log file!

I opened the same mission in TGA where everything works fine, and then in WAW.

No errors in TGA, but in WAW after opening the mission first time:
