Might help if you apply a modpack to it to replace the original launcher/exe.
Seen this before, and installing Ultrapack fixed it.

thanks for this suggestion - Im new here, never modded IL2 (only fallout4!)...so may I just say....whhhaaaaaaat?

Wait... are you trying to run the game with it's original executable?
No modpack (BAT, Ultrapack, ...) installed?
No Selector?

Alright. Yeah, that's not supposed to work for ages now.
Securom/Safedisc (IL-2 1946's original copy protection) is not supported by Win 10 for quite a while now, and hasn't ever been supported by Win 11.
You need the "NoCD" exe at least, better yet the Selector, or even much better: A modpack (BAT, Ultrapack, or something else if you fancy a ride on your own risk).

I am looking at the selector now, you did good with the manual, even a numpty like me can make it work.

But it mentions the other mod packs - is there anywhere which lists these mods and gives an idea about what is each? Im happy to get one, but don't want to dive into the deep end, just dipping my toe so far, I want to know what to expect

It shouldn't be too difficult to take 10 minutes and read the relevant sections of this forum, at least the ones concerning BAT and Ultrapack

I appreciate your point, but I'm not really a tech person, and looking at the newbie area here - even that has over 2000 topics.

I am new here, and things may make sense to you, you may know exactly where to go for things. But me, I don't even know what BAT means.

Even if you are not a tech person I think that it shouldn't be too difficult to  find the BAT section

as well as the Ultrapack

finally there is also search bar at the top of the page

Boom, done it.

Thanks for the patience and helping me through - there's a lot of help for sure in this forum, but realistically too much for someone new to grasp. Probably would have given up and left the game alone.

But pretty much then, if you have a new instal, on windows 11, go and download the complete package of ultrapack.   Once I did that, it worked!

Sadly the Mrs demanded that I continue painting the spare room so I've not had chance to play yet. But the plane list is certainly impressive.

I look forward to it.

Once again, thanks.
