Problem with the Ta-152?
« on: March 19, 2025, 03:31:10 AM »

Is this me, the install or what? I have the latest BAT version, clean vanilla, no added mods. And everything else is working fine, no snags. But ...

I can't get the Ta-152 to work. Any variant. When I try and fly it (Quick Mission or FMB) it crashes the game. Really hard. Back to desktop  :(

Has anyone else seen this? Can someone confirm that this is a problem, and not just in my mind / install?

I read in the Aviaskins forum a user having a very similar problem with the FW-190. Do you have a log for your CTD? In his case it was a problem with missing classes this means that something went wrong during installs

Here is a quote from end of the log, with what I take is the problem.

Print compass heading is a well known error for the FW family it is strange as this is a typical error for 4.09 and 4.13 versions but shouldn't be a problem in BAT that is 4.12 based

I quickly tried all the TA-152 in WAW and couldn't reproduce your error

I am quite sure that this must be a corrupted or missing sfs file in your install.

As mentioned a user at aviaskins had a similar problem with the FW-190 cockpit.

So how long must the rollback be, for the BAT install, I mean? All the way to a functioning, non-modded 4.12? Is there any way to tell?

It is very difficult to say as this seems a class file mismatch. Do you know since when you have the problem? If you had everything working properly using previous versions of BAT then maybe just making a fresh download of the last patches and reinstalling on top of what you have should take care of the problem.

Before reinstalling, try deactivating any cockpit mods that you might have, in case they have introduced the conflict.

I have no mods, pure vanilla, but useful reminder!

But reinstalling the whole SheBang from 4.12 feels a bit too daunting right now. I will have to live without the Ta-152 & Fw-190D, for a while at least.  :(

Reinstalling BAT 4.3 should be sufficient, as it will replace all classfiles in the #WAW folder anyway.
Files.SFS in BAT is untouched vanilla 4.12.2m.
There's a tiny little chance to mess things up by installing a 190 family mod in SFS archived format - IIRC claymore's 190 pack was such a beast, where classfiles settled together with other files in SFS archives in random order, with no filelist.txt given. Keep a safe distance to things like that.

Phew! Thanks Storebor, that was a bit of good news! Just reinstalling 4.3 is pretty much a walk in the park.

Will report back when I’ve done that  ]salut[

Reinstalled BAT 4.3. No such luck  o_O The game crashes to desktop when the loading of the Ta-152 reaches 30%. As before.

I will see if I have an earlier install of BAT tucked away somewhere. And run that to see if the problem can be spotted there as well.

Update: Found an old install of BAT, version 2.0, and there the Ta-152 flies beautifully!

Update again: I used the fix for the "java.lang.NoSuchFieldError: printCompassHeading" found here: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,63497.0.html
And installed it. And now the Ta-152's and the Fw-190D's etc flies without a hitch!
