Can I use custom BAT maps with Stock DCG campaigns?
« on: March 28, 2025, 05:59:53 AM »

Is that a possibility to convert stock campaign maps to BAT maps?

To be compatible with an existing campaign a map must
- have the same name and load.ini name,
- have its utilized airfields (and maybe other objects as objectives in the campaign?) at the expected places, and
- contain no objects not present in one's game.

There are probably one or more other details to consider; I'm no campaign expert!

A map can be repainted with new textures to no ill effect, as that's merely an aesthetic matter.

Not exactly sure what you're asking but it seems you want to use an old DCG campaign using a 'newer' BAT map.
I'm guessing no but will defer to the experts.
If the map didn't exist for the stock DCG campaign (i.e. the Normandy map was used as a stand in for the UK for a Battle of Britain campaign and now you want to apply that campaign to a BAT UK Channel map) then obviously no, as there is no relation to coordinates/locations and numerous other aspects between the two maps.  Pretty much a non-starter I think.
If the BAT map is the same one as the original DCG campaign used then obviously there should be no problem unless the updated map has newer objects etc.  If you look at the first few lines of a .mis file and other DCG files you'll see where the LOAD map line is.  You can change that to load any map I believe but my previous point still applies.
e.g. if a UK Channel map in BAT is the same as the one used to create an old 'stock' DCG campaign then there should be no problem, however the stock DCG campaign may be using aircraft/objects/vehicles that either don't exist in BAT or have been modified/renamed in BAT so there may still be issues.
My first point I think still applies in that a modified BAT map even if similar to an older DCG stock campaign map may have objects either new/renamed that can cause issues with an older DCG campaign.  It would depend on just how much modification of a map has been done.  There's probably other reasons but again I'll defer to the experts.
