A screenshot of another great ol' simulator. Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3. Over 20yrs old, and still kicking butt ! This is a highly modded sim. CFS3 ETO expansion, with the new 2025 Ankor's shaders installed. Lovely, outclasses CLoD/Blitz ! You may want to give this a try. It's All free at sim-outhouse.org Highly recommended , very accurate flight modeling ,and highly moddable. Similar to WOFF-( that's what WOFF is based on ). Don't miss out on a great one , if you like the WW II era, tons of great aircraft and more, all free !

I tried it many times but still kept coming back to IL-2.  When it was released, it was a desperate attempt to come up with a tactical WW2/Ground attack sim in response to IL-2, but it just did not meet the mark.  All my opinions of course, but I still have the original release and the Aircraft Powerpack boxes.  I tried them many times through the years as Windows got updated but it never really did it for me.  The view options are not as intuitive, and the aircraft choices and menus are just not up to par.

One thing I liked was the infinite aircraft generation when you are flying a quick mission, and you can keep shooting waves after waves.  Unrealistic, but good for practice.  Fortunately I created a mission generator that could do exactly that in IL-2... UQMG.

I won't lie, I did play CFS-3 and I did like it, but compared to IL-2 FB and 46' it just felt off if that makes sense? The graphics were nice but it felt too ''Microsoft'' which was wooden and it used the same graphics and FM as their regular FS2002.. so it was rushed to compete as Uber stated.

I also had a hard time trying to mod it, or if your PC didn't adapt to it? It wouldn't work... also it used a lot of RAM regarding how high the graphics went too, if you had a moderately powered PC like I did back in the day I had to have things on basic settings. And even then the framerate dropped like a sack of s*it..

The mission format wasn't bad but it just again felt stiff.. as already mentioned by Uber the variety of aircraft was severely limited, But again modding communities like ours have worked a charm and it's refreshed it a lot regards variety and improvements.

Overall though I just kept coming back to IL-2.. it was always there when I wanted WWII action. Plus I had a thing for crashing planes back then and IL-2 always fulfilled how spectacular an accident you can have.

So regardless of comparison? There isn't one really.. It's like Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, we just have 2 separate communities but we have soft spots for each.

This is a Highly modded version. The aircraft are 1% flight modeling. i have several sims, including DCS, and love this better. i've been at this since 1995, so i know what is good. IL-2 1946 BAT is great, but this one i like to modd. That's the enjoyment i get. CFS3 is more complex to mod, but it pays off greatly.

Just wanted to say hi to all. Love IL-2 1946 BAT, and play it at least 3 days a week, with my other favorite, Wings over Flanders Fields ( WOFF) , Absolutely the Best Air Combat WW I simulator available, have Rise of Flight also.(WOFF is based on CFS3).  https://overflandersfields.com/index.html Live in Cajun Country, Sulphur, Louisiana USA. Have a blessed day all, from a old Navy vet. Fought in Desert Storm. Worked on weapon guidance systems, on the F-14 Tomcat. Retired now.
