Airfield Sounds
« on: August 09, 2010, 02:40:28 PM »

I use these sound files to provide airfield sounds in IL2.They provide a good feeling of what a WWII airfield may have sounded like or at least what I believe may be a reasonable facsimile.I've had these sound files for a long time so at this point I've lost any information about the original authors but, would like to thank them for the effect their work provides for IL2 and if they hear their work I hope they approve.

Gumpy, I was wondering if there is a way to add separate airfield sounds for the various nationalities.  For instance, separate sounds for German, Italian, Russian, etc airfields.  I've got files of music which could be inserted so that maybe it would sound like a radio playing in the distance.

Ya know I was thinking the same thing the other night but,I wouldn't know how to get the game to recognize which side you were playing for at any given time so it would play the right sound file.

I nevver cease to be amazed at what brilliant mods come up here. I love this one - it really sets the scene as you sit in the cockpit waiting to take off. Well done.

It's a little bit weird to hear birds and starting engines at the Coral Sea, when I'm alone on a carreer ;)

well, Dino, these sounds are meant for airfields, not carriers - but you can always make your own sounds that are suited to a carrier, and use them instead.  ;)
for example, i've replaced my default carrier sounds with one from this thread, and it works like a charm.  :D  https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,10364.msg131578.html#msg131578

I put them to the samples/Sounds folder, changed the CarrierJAPAN1.wav, and the three CarrierUSA.wavs with the downloaded wavs, nut I have the original carrier sound in the game :|

I downloaded the files what's in the topic what you psoted now. I put these files to the IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\samples\Sounds folder, and replaced the original carrier sounds with these. But I have the original carrier sounds. :(

(I saved these files with Right click --> "Save it as...")

no, Dino, you aren't understanding properly.
for the game to use the new sounds, you have to rename them to the same name that the game uses.
in this case, it will be ship_00.wav.
it won't recognise those names as they are.
also, you can only use one of the sounds, so you must choose which one you want touse, then rename it.
also, you are using the wrong folder to put the sounds in. it doesn't go in the gameroot/samples folder, but normally in the Files/samples folder....
however, it's best not to make changes in the Files folder, but rather to put it in the Mods folder. use the folder structure that i mentioned in the other thread, so it will be Mods/(whatevernameyoulike)/samples/ship_00.wav.
comprende?  :D
