I think you posted your map in the wrong section, the MapWorx section would be a better place.  :-\
Anyway, since there is nothing going on with Waggels Northsea map anymore you can have the few repainted houseblocks I made if you want them.
I made a Dutch windmill and some Amsterdam canal houses.

Yeah, a pity as Waggels map looked promising..

Wow, I'd love to be able to use those, Uufflakke. They look really really really amazing! I don't know if you have a download link or please pm me otherwise.
I already have tried my hand at modelling but find 3dsmax has quite a steep learning curve..
..or maybe I've got a steep thickness curve..  :D

Fake airfields
« Reply #15 on: August 16, 2010, 02:51:13 PM »

Will there be a late(r) war version with German airfields?. I would like Venlo Herongen...:) It's great for night fighters and also for He-11 v1 launches (that might be available in future).

Bombing the railroad bridge at Venlo might be interesting. The RAF did 17 raids and failed to destroy it, killing over 300 innocent people in my  city (Venlo). The strategic value of the bridge was very low (nov. 1944), because it was already badly damaged. The whole innercity of Venlo and Blerick was destroyed, leaving no historic building intact.

And something else I NEVER saw on any map. Fake airfields. The airfield of Venlo  Herongen had an alternative location at Schandelo. It did not work very well, and was not really bombed. But...if you start a mission in il2 and do not know the map a fake-airfield could foul you.

As for now I am only working on the 1940 version. Maybe in the future.

No plans for that either.
I know a little about the 'fake' airfields the Germans had around their real airfields during their occupation of The Netherlands. I lived near one of those dummy fields in the north of the country. I read the Germans were actually towing wooden planes around there to make it all look as real as possible. To which the RAF responded by bombing those fields... with wooden bombs! True story!

I have info on several dummy airfields in the Schiphol and Leeuwarden area (some with drawings). It would be great to have a moving decoy, as they used cables to pull them over the dummy airfield :D

Some air recce photo's here; http://aerial.rcahms.gov.uk/worldwide/TheNetherlands.php

And I guess you've found these pictures by yourself already, but I'll share m anyway just in case;http://www.filefront.com/17207607/Nederland.rar

Uufflakke, could you help or write me a tutorial for making (simple) objects? I have a few ideas for objects that would be great with this map, but have not a clue on where to start.

I really don't know how to make objects. I wish I could. I think there are some tutorials around, here or at AAS.
The only thing I do all the time is repainting existing objects. And by renaming them and adding new entries for the static.ini you have a new set of objects, so it won't overwrite the stuff we already have.

The trick with this map will be to to give the illusion of a densely settled area without killing frame rates by adding too many objects. Your work looks great so far, best of luck!
