Arado Ar196T-1
« on: September 01, 2010, 02:28:38 PM »

This plane is a result of a discussion about "what if" development of navy planes in Germany. There are 109's and possibly 190's for Graf Zeppelin, also there would be a carrier version of Ju87.
Only thing missing is a torpedo plane :).So we thought that Germans would avoid making a completely new design from scratch and try to adapt one of the existing airframes....and we picked Arado 196 (minus floats).
It's a large plane, big wing surface, good (in game) low speed handling.

Difference in empty weight between float version and this is half a ton added weight, fully loaded is almost a whole ton heavier than float version (~4000kg default loadout).BMW801C-2 motor unit is installed (including a 190 cowling),also 190 landing gear is used.Big engine gave it good top speed and exceptional acceleration and climb rate (for a torpedo plane :) ).Basically I added weight, reduced drag (no floats) and let IL2 decide the rest ;D.

Armaments consist of two MG151/20 in wings,MG81 for rear gunner and optional bomb and torpedo loadout.

Skin template by Hynkel, flaperon mechanics borrowed from Twister...canopy thing by Raptor (Ju87C)...pit repaint by bolox......install instructions inside archive.

Download Arado

Have fun :)

It seems most 196 skins go well with this too.

The prototype. ;D

Very interesting.  Thanks to all involved. ;D

A well-thought-out 'what if' plane. Time to see what it flies like...

EDIT ----

Nice! 8)

Perfect for deck landings - just get it trimmed out and you can practically do it hands off...

You do want the carrier going flat out to avoid an 'interesting' takeoff with full fuel and a torpedo, but then this seems entirely realistic. Or maybe use the catapult - I've not tried this yet.
