How to figure out the skin folder name for any plane
« on: September 21, 2009, 08:42:25 AM »

A question that gets asked a lot, and yet the answer is piss easy.

look at the entry for the plane in question in your air.ini file.

for example:

Fw-190A-3         air.FW_190A3 2                                g01   SUMMER

The skin folder name will ALWAYS for the first entry in the line in air.ini. The first part is here highlighted in red:

Fw-190A-3         air.FW_190A3 2                                g01   SUMMER

So, in this case, the Skin folder name will be

Fw-190A-3

In cases where there is a caracter like "/" in the name, for example:

Bf-109F-2/B_Trop       air.BF_109F2Btrop 2           g01 SUMMER

Then, just substitute a "_" instead of the "/" . So, in this case, that skin folder will be called

Bf-109F-2_B_Trop

Cheers!

I have checked the names in my AI.ini as above are the same etc but still no show? Is it something-too do with the button files? i got the new Helicopter working last night and after reading this tutorial got the new skins to show for that, but not for any of the new jets except for the F86 Sabre etc please help!

And thats the problem! As I already stated in my Native perfect English, I have the correct names as repeated by you (Thankyou) ;) but they STILL dont show, this is the reason i am posting and took the trouble to thourghly read ALL the tutorials before posting etc. :-X.
This is what made me think it was a buttons issue etc? Because its such a mystery???

teddybear, do those mods have a paintschemes folder inside them? maybe that's causing the problem - if they already have a paintschemes/skins folder inside them, it might only read that one, and not the main paintschemes folder....just a thought.... :)

For anyone else not sure where to put MOD planes skins:
I couldn't get the extra skins for the mig21 mod to show up either.
Copying the the three MiG-variant folders directly into the games default
~\PaintSchemes\Skins\ folder worked for me.
This caught me out because I thought I should be adding them to the "MOD" folder (in this instance,
the "MOD" folder is my "#SAS" folder.
