Title: Ambient Airfield Sounds v 1.02 [4.09] [4.10] [4.12]
Post by: Checkyersix on November 03, 2010, 06:00:09 AM
Presenting a new way to bring your airfields to life :D

This mod will let you place ambient noise makers all around your airfield.

They work just like the siren object, only they stay on all the time.

Noises include 5 types of airfield background noise, lapping waves, distant artillery, and jungle ambiance.

More sounds may be added later.

Updates:
========================================================================

V 1.01: Hopefully corrected the "one sound only" issue people were having - delete old version.

V 1.02: Standardized formats for all sounds. Should help improve performance. (thanks Korrigan!)

========================================================================

Download (v 1.02): https://www.mediafire.com/?wt1pn6erclse6l9

Thanks to:

Beowolff: Initial conception / testing
Gumpy & 5./JG54_s0crazty: Soundfiles
Uuflakke: Bug testing
Korrigan: Format tweaking

Enjoy!

CY6.

I'd love it if one of the talented movie makers around here could make a little sample vid of how this mod works. I don't know how to do that stuff myself, and I couldn't think of anything to put in a picture, except cartoony "sound effects" coming from all over the place...

did all that, i tried putting it under the smoke and i tried putting it under the Siren, as the read me said. Unzipped the folder CY6_Ambient to the MODS. It loads the game fine, but refuses to show anything in the stationary objects.

its the CY6_Ambient folder and inside that are the Preset & samples folder with the other files. Jones just did a teamviewer session with me and put everything in the way it works on his pc but it still refused to show anything.

Some ideas for further enhancements as this mod develops ....

1. Auto download wav files from host/server to clients, much the same as skin downloads. That way the client does not have to have the relevant wav installed.
2. Have the sound activate just when red or blue (or other) planes are around, rather than play the sound continiously which might put stress on low-end machines.
3. Add additional options to "siren" properties tab to include options such as a continious loop or number of times to loop field, or how often to play the wav ie every 2 min.

I see more than ambient sounds, how about ground crew conversations, voice-overs with mission briefing on spawning,

Yep, as long as they are in the stationary.ini file under the [StationaryObjects] section.

If you're still having trouble, try checking for a second Stationary.ini file lurking in your install that might be overwriting this one...

thank you for your help guys. the sounds are fantastic

I've experienced difficulties installing this mod. Cannot say if it's a bug or not. I have 4.09m * Up2.1 installed & working well.

1. I have put the mod into the MODS folder & turned off all other mods, both in JGSME & in the MODS folder itself.
2. I have added the required text to the stationary.ini file in the STD sub-folder in the MODS folder - game load crashes at 60%.
3. I have added the required text to the stationary.ini file in the files-com-maddox folder off the game root folder - game load crashes at 60%.
4. I have tried both 2 & 3 above independenly turning the various stationary.ini files off in the files, hsfx, & MODS folders - game-load crashes at 60 or 70%.

Why do you have an HSFX folder if you have UP 2.1? Is that standard? I use HSFX and I only have a MODS folder.

60% crash suggests you have the wrong buttons or you're missing an a/c from your MODS folder, or possibly that you need the Diff_FM mod. This mod shouldn't cause a 60% crash. I would suggest restoring your install to one that loads, then adding this mod.

The Stationary.ini file in the MODS folder should load before all the other ones. You should only have one stationary.ini file in your install.

Hmm, that is strange. Have you tried re-installing? What pack are you running? HSFX / UP?

If you have ideas (or better yet, sounds in .wav format @ 22050 Hz) just send them along and I can include them in game.

What to think of seawater splash sounds against the hull of a carrier?
But I don't think it's possible on a moving carrier and maybe you won't hear it on a static carrier also as you can not lift the sound/box up to the deck. It would be nice though if possible...

Sure, if someone can find the sounds for me. I can adjust the volume so you could hear it from a carrier deck as well.

Actually carrier sounds in general could be pretty good. You could arrange them in a row so you'd hear them from a moving carrier, at least at takeoff, I suppose...

possibly one of the guys can figure out a way for us to 'attach' one of these objects to a carrier? that'd make it a lot easier...maybe one for a US, one for IJN carrier....
that, of course, would open up all sorts of new possibilities, yet again....if we could use this attach method, possibly one object for regular wave/groundcrew sounds, and one that works as the regular siren object, with a cool naval siren alert going off, some shouting sounds as the guncrews prepare for action stations, etc....how cool would that be?  ;D 8)

About 2 years ago, in the long ago time before the concept "new slot" anything existed, someone at AAA made a sound pack  with different .wav sounds of 6 different hand cranked and megaphone sirens to replace the default siren sound. I have these, but the author is not listed in the readme. If we could find the person and get permission, perhaps these sirens could be added into their own slots. I think an "always on" hand cranked siren would be very appropriate airfield background sound in some missions.

Here it is, one request, can ya add an effect sound line for city sounds, I swapped one sound file out for another, unless you can give me a hint on how ya was able to pull it off??? I know, magician don't reveal the trick....U guys rock!!

Great mod CY6, the only problem I have is that the only sound that works is the first airfield sound. No matter what I select ie artillery, coastal, jungle or any other. Any idea's on why the other sounds don't work ? All the wav files are there.

Heaps of sound samples at Sound Dogs (http://www.sounddogs.com/), try searching for airfield, machine shop, ww2, aircraft, jeep etc etc

This mod seems to have a conflict with the Zuti MDS stationary.ini

You have to add to the stationary.ini, not overwright.

I bet industrial sounds would be really cool for factories. Like hammers, machine tools and the like.

Still having problems.  :(
Airfield 01 till 05 work now but not the Artillery, Coastal and Jungle sounds.

EDIT: I tested all the sounds on my Stalingrad Winter map and not every works, but then I tried it out on a few other maps (summer and winter versions) and everything is okay now.
I really don't know why it doesn't work on Winter Stalingrad, I tested every sound three times but no succes. Really weird.
But on the other hand why should I want to have Jungle sounds in Winter Stalingrad? Unless there is a Zoo or a petshop around the corner...
  ;D

The coastal sound is really cool when ready for take off on a carrier.

This little mod opens a lot of perspective like the sounds of a muezzin on top of a mosque's minaret calling the chants Allah Akhbar Ins'allah or whatever they say. Nice for Redko's Desert maps.  ;)
Or the galloping and whinnying sounds of horses combined with explosions for a WWI battle field scenario?

Now to find a way to "attach" the siren to a moving object.

I tried several sound objects on a map & it hit my frame rate badly on a fairly old computer. Suggest trying to make sound only activayte when a plane is nearby.

yeah, i would suggest guys start experimenting themselves from this point.
the real leg-work has been done, and i would hate to see it start turning into each guy posting for a specific sound, or whatever.
all has been explained, so it should be a cinch to change sounds out for something you prefer, etc....that's the nice thing about a mod like this. it makes it easy for us to mod it even further, fine-tuning it to our personal liking....
sound issues, as well, will from here on most likely be due to your rig's sound setup, so experimenting first before asking for CY6's help, is the way to go, gents....oh, and apparently there are ladies among us now, as well....so, ladies, too.... ;D 8)
of course, if you make something of your own which you think is particularly cool, and feel like sharing, that will be appreciated, too.... ;D ;)

A great game enhancement. I find the ambient sound "sirens" very sensitve to distance from spawn points. What I mean is that you can place a sound close to the first spawn point at a base & you can hear it OK, but the second or third person to spawn may not be able to hear the sound. This wasn't so much of an issue with he siren sound because it was loud enough but mission builder custom sounds may need some sort of consistent audio volume standard developed, or the mod boost the sound to a consistent level.
Title: Re: Ambient Airfield Sounds v 1.02
Post by: Checkyersix on November 30, 2010, 06:55:24 AM
The sound drops off with distance. It might be better to place more than one of the sound box you want around the airfield - they should sync up. If I make them too loud then it will just be really loud at the source and quieter further away.

If you search for “carrier”  in the IL2 main folder you will find these wav files. I have never heard these in game and I think they would be great if they could be looped and attached to moving carriers via the mission builder.
I think though that one would need to be able have some form of volume control or if not then the volume would need to be fairly low.

Any thoughts on whether this would be possible??

easily possible, Ibis - i've already replaced my default carrier sound with one of yours, and it works fine.
basically just renamed it to ship_00.wav, and placed it in the correct folder structure in Mods, and Robert's your mother's brother.... ;D 8)

SAS~Malone,
thanks for your reply, can you tell me though what is the correct
folder structure as I'm no whiz at this stuff.
 cheers,
  Ibis.

it should be MODS/(whatevernameyoulikeforthemodfolder)/samples/ship_00.wav  ;)

 This is what I have:
 E:\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\MODS\sounds\samples\ship_00.wav

I still get the stock sounds from the carrier.

As I said I'm not up with these things so I expect I need to do something else as well perhaps.
 thanks

what game version are you using, Ibis?

edit: also, which carrier are you using to check the sounds? perhaps it's a different specific sound for different ships, i have to check.
for my example, the ship_00.wav sound works for the generic US carrier.

 I'm using UP2.01 with Zuti 1.13
I have two US generic carriers and one GB carrier in a convoy
and all three have the same stock carrier engine sound.
Is there no ini file to change?
Or do I need to place it in the FMB somwhere?and if so where
and how.
Again thanks for your help with this, it's appreciated.
  cheers.

strange, it should really work. it's a really simple thing i did to mod it.
the only other suggestion i have is to try renaming ths sounds folder to something like mod_sounds or such, maybe the game is confusing it with the sounds folder in the root 'samples' folder....
mine is IL2\MODS\Malone_Specials\Samples\ship_00.wav
really, all i did was rename one of your sound samples, CarrierUSA1.wav to ship_00.wav, and that's it.
perhaps you have another sound mod loading before this one?
try renaming the folder to 00_modsounds or something, so that it loads before any other sounds...

Thanks Malone but no luck m8, not to worry I'll
fiddle about with it, some thing must be amiss somewhere,
thanks for the help.

Hi guys!
I've extract the mod in my MODS folder and put the lines of the readme in my stationari.ini file under siren, but when I start mission I don't feel the airfield sound. Where i've wrong?  :(
