Thanks for downloading this map.

Install instructions (i strongly recommand the case 2, please read both before to proceed to installation )
For people having Ultapack, you will have to create a Mod folder in the root of the game if you don't already have it.


CASE 1 = I WANT A SEPARATE INSTALL:

Just put the "redko_Mto" file into your mapmod folder as usual like this :

MODS/MAPMODS/maps/redko_Mto

Put the texture folder like this:

MODS/MAPMODS/maps/Tex_/redko_tex/Lybia

On you all.ini file, located on MODS/MAPMODS/maps path folder, add this line:

redko_Mto redko_Mto/load.ini

If you have existing Missions/campains from the stock desert_online map, you have to edit the .mis file for each missions and change the name for to redko_Mto.



CASE 2 = I WANT TO REPLACE THE STOCK MAP (easier in my opinion, both for install and later to deal with the existing missions/campains)

In this case, do the same, ad the textures file "Lybia" on the classic redko_tex folder still like this:

MODS/MAPMODS/maps/Tex_/redko_tex/Lybia

And then just rename the redko_Mto map folder into classic "Mto" name exactly like the stock one...and that's all. You have nothing to add in you all.ini file

For people having Ultapack, you will have to create a Mod folder in the root of the game if you don't already have it.

For the repainted object, just put on your Mod folder or put it in root game in the file folder like this:

Files/3do/Bildings/Port/Floor

To improve fps, as there is many palm trees is some parts of the map please do this:

1 - Go to you static.ini file
     It's located for Ultrapack here : root/files/com/maddox/il2/objects
     For non pack user, it's in your MOD folder, and then STD folder

2 - Use search and look for "FurniturePalmBg1" to fing these lines:

You can also just add the line "IgnoreShadowData" under the "MeshDead" line. This will remove shadows from the objet, like CanonUk. Must help for some Agracier"s maps too, he has been using many trees sometimes ;)

Remember this : for all old missions/campains using this map, if you have an error message "String Index out of Range" edit the .mis file ofr each mission by removing all what you have on "HOUSE" section !

Map wont load. Error is cant open map f.tga. I looked in the folder and there is no map f.tga but has a listing in its load.ini for it. FarMap    = map_f.tga

Install the map as mto and not redko mto, it will read and use the stock map_f.tga
I have UP, and i installed the map as the default mto. I have no map_f in it and it works.

If you prefer to install the map as redko_Mto, remove the line FarMap    = map_f.tga from the load.ini, and rename the load.ini file for exemple redko_load.ini. In this case, in the all.ini the lines to add would be redko_Mto redko_Mto/redko_load.ini. Should work.

If not i will post a map_F later

This Map works and looks great in my UP201 4.09 FMB when I select "MTO" in my menu.

When I select "MTO" in my UP201 4.09 QMB my plane takes off in the ocean and sinks.

I can not "scramble" take off from MTO in my QMB.

I did create the Post/Floor file in my root game folder and copied the "floor files" into it before launching the game

.so I'm stumped as to why it works in FMB and not in QMB

I pasted the redko floor-reskin in my  "..\Files\3do\Buildings" folder since Histomod didn't come with an 3DO in my mods.

I can scramble, note: I use Benitomuso's QMB mod-latest version.

Well I don't know what the Histomod V3.0 and the Benitomuso's QMB mod-latest version are, and I was un aware that I needs these mods
to fly MTO from QMB now that I have installed Redko's MTO map????

his install notes said nothing about adding these extra mods so his map repaint would function correctly in my QMB.

I assumed it would wrok in FMB and re-paint my stock UP 201 4.09 QMB MTO map and that's it.


UPDATE:
I can "scramble" take off as an allied pilot in QMB MTO but not as an Axis Pilot in QMB MTO.

UPDATE my plane appears in the middle of the ocean

Just a small detail, if you want your default static AC to have a desert camo then open the load.ini and change CAMOUFLAGE=SUMMER into =DESERT ...  ;)

Then if you want to test this jaw dropping map with a little 10 mis regalia, here is a pack that I tweaked to my liking (originaly coop), so please don't search for historical accuracy as there is none ...  ::)

Hello Redko! This repaint is beautiful. Northern part ( Islands) is very different from stock 4.09m ( and 4.10m) MTO map when you compare in FMB. I have an old 4.09b1m custom install and your map is identical in FMB. I think yours is a repaint from this old version of MTO. QMB missions might not work fine due this. Thanks, it is a jewel  ;)

I like the way you populated the cities, very clever way of combining 3d objects on phototextures. Take for instance the brick walls along the road... That way you can have less objects which is good for framerate.

first thanx 4 this beautiful add on... i dl it and installed it...nice readme...

I still dont see the changes..nor object or new textures..can i be given some directions on what i ve done wrong

 am on a 4.09 up 2.01..

I had the desert  buildings and Lybia folder...i let those be overwritten on install...could that be the problem???
i changed the static.ini   in the modsfolder not files....
also the new floor files  i just put in mods folder ...
...i get no error messages

I found the cause of this Blue Scramble problem.  The mission is made for the original IL2 1946 MTO map, but the map you and I now have is a "UltraPack" MTO map which is proportioned differently.  It's necessary to either obtain a new mission file or open the existing one to move everything north to the new location of "Crete".

Map F issue

I would be grateful for a map F.  I tried to install this as a separate install and followed the directions to remove that section and rename the load file.

Now it won't load due to a missing FAR MAP line.

Could we please get a map f for those of us who would like a separate install?  I would be very grateful. 

I do appreciate the work that goes into these maps, so please don't think of anything in this as criticism.  I just want to keep all the maps I can get.

Yea you Houses were VERY useful, impossible to make an authentic north african urbanism style without this. I will use it too for Tunisia map. The structure of cities is rather similar to what i used for MTO, for exemple there is the same regular pattern coming from the ancian roman empire. Tunis region :

But i will need varierty for your house, same objects but with a little differences. If i make those house would you integrate it to your pack, i think it's better than makin each time a new one?

I would suggest to make a brand new download for your repaints and post it in the 'Visuals' section like I did.
And name it Desert House Pack part II for instance...
It will be a bit confusing I think when members do have to download my pack for the second time and by the way my repaints are already included in Boomer's Object Mod Pack.

No. Its not Redko who did a "redrawing", there are two versions of MTO Maps around ( I never noticed this before :(). And he used this "old" (first beta?, stock?) version of the MTO map I think. But when this map as Redko used it was changed and who did this I don't know ...

I just looked into a old campaign (DE/ZG CRETE; Jun-Nov 1941) wich was made 12-2008, it works with this "old" maps Redkos repainted, there the pathways etc. fits.

I will have a look into newer missions later, maybe other campaigns/missions wich was made for the "new" map and the set objects, takeoff/landing/etc. pathways on the islands will not fit as with the new bluescramble mission (as far as I see it the mainland in the south is not affected, so what is set there should be playble without problems).?

I for my part will rather rework some missions than to forgo Redkos repaint..
but I know a lot of users will not do this, they want mods "out of the box" (best with 5 years of guarantee.. :D).

Redko , what do you say? Any suggestions mate?

Interresting finding Gerax, never heard about that second MTO. Are they called exactly in the same way ? ::). I guess my version is a little older, and most of missions for that map are made for that one, but maybe i'm wrong. Anyway, is the size map is the same, it could be easy to copy past the map_t and the object from one the other. Is someone could do so i could texture the big island in the north.

For the moment i have to update a little Sands and Dersert, i'm already involded in Tunisia and Sinai so time is short. More than than these 2 last maps are more important and interresting for historical missions.

WOW - lots of responses to the problem discovered: 2 versions of the QMB MTO Map are in random, uncoordinated use by modders.

So......................................it has been suggested that we who are having a "blue start" problem change the missions.
This is QMB, not FMB we are talking about, the Axis mission start/scramble position is compressed into the main game folder,


So.... to avoid "blue start" we have to download a tool/software program: to un-compress
the main game QMB mission files in the axis section , manipulate it, and re-compress it
back into the game? - If I was capable of doing that I might try modding a map myself -
sorry I posses no such computer acumen.

I like the map so I will just fly Allied on it.

For changing quick missions you don't have to be a computer wizkid.
Try out Benitomuso's MissionProCombo Mod. This is the link to the 4.09 version but there is also another for V4.10.

With this mod you are able to edit every quick mission to your own taste, even default ones. And besides that it includes dozens of quick missions for modded maps.

Hi red, I play an UP 209 install but even though I followed what u said to bombsaway I can't get the redko_Mto working. Removed the map_f line, renamed to redko_load.ini the load.ini in the map and renamed the line in main load.ini as redko_Mto redko_Mto/redko_load.ini but still I get a "landscape" error. No clue about that... Thks a lot for your work and your help!
PS: as a stock install (instead of the stock MTO) it works

Edit: took a _f from "desert" map, yours of course and it works but, maybe, not the choice u would suggest to get what u intended to...

I used the sfs extractor and got the map_f for the MTO and placed it the redko_Mto folder. It loads and now.

Red, very good textures in this one, I checked it up last night, I have some delays checking mods :) far superior to Desert and SandsOfTime. I've done some tweakings, and I'm reusing textures from this and your other deserts for my (private ;) ) version of Libya NE. I'll post some screenshots with time. Very good desert mate.

Argh! :) Just reflew redko's MTO remade V1 with the new kickass carsmaster light mod and a personal slightly more reddish repaint. This map rules so much! Especially between 17.00 and 17.30/18.00..
Redko, did you do something to increase the object popup distance? Either I was tired from insomnia or the beautiful coastal villages seemed to prevail a little longer visible..anyway, great map! :)

It's really easy. Since my free Adobe photo software expired >:(, I had to do it with Irfan view lol. :)
I also have PSP, but so far it worked. I will have to recheck it, can pm it then..off course a decent way would be a bit more complex..for me it works. I fly mostly afternoon anyway, love IL-2s afternoon mood.

Could sombody tell me if there is repaint for Sands of Time map? I always thought it was just another name for MTO, but apparently not- my favourite campaign "Afrika!" by FlatspinMan is using Sands of Time and I wanted to paly it in Redko quality - is it possible? "Afrika!" campaign strats to use some map called "desert" starting from mission 10- which one is that? MTO, MTO online, something else desert?

I seem to think that Redko mentioned Sands of Time at some point, but search did not bring anything...

Ok for those wanting to see how Tunsia map is looking for real here is a little movie.
Desert parts only for the moment. Enjoy.

A good complement to MTO ;)

As you know i get some troubles with this map. Hard to repaint because Tunisia is really rich in terms of landscapes. North parts are back to the standard resolution, desert will remain at 2 and 4.

But changing in the north makes that now textures and patterns, mostly for cities doesn't match anymore so i have had to redo this again...

Anyway things are going sweet know. Desert parts are less sandy than MTO, more rock like you all can see on pics about tunisia deserts. Sandy parts are more in the south, far than the map represents. I have maybe 1 or 2 textures i can remove and turn it back to sand if you want, i know people liked MTO repains because of the sands effects.

This Oblongo's Tunisia map is going to be really complementary of fictitious MTO but as Flatspinman is using that one too for his new campain it's going to be fun

Sorry to re-enlight this thread, maybe Mick can help, maybe someone else:
I tried to make this map (MTO repaint by 'Sir' redko  ;)) a new default Histo MTO map. The problem, which was also dealed with in this thread, is the following: Despite the fact that getting the map to work, I did not find a working solution to overcome the issue with porked stock Quick missions.

I would be glad for a working solution since IMHO this map is one of the top 5 of all times. At least top 6.- :D

Of course it is known to me that the topography or rather the boundaries are different in redko's version.
Yet the proposed fix was not really a fix for me.-
