Title: Swordfish Mk.II (Update 20.10.2012) new mediafire links [4.09] [4.10]
Post by: Docholiday on April 02, 2011, 05:30:22 AM
I present You the Swordfish Mk.II

This plane was used (parallel with the Mk.III) until the End of the War.
His main task was it to hunt german submarines during the battle of the Atlantik.
Because of their weight they often were used from smaler aircraft carriers.

For this duty they were armed with deepcharges and (after the costal Command found out that the RP`s are the most effective weapon agains surfaced submarines and merchant schips) rocket projectils.

The download contains two versions: One version for HSFX5.01+SAS MODACT for this pack    and   one version for 4.101+SAS MODACT (both work with UP 3.0 and DBW too)

After downloading You have to pick the folder who is right for You. You have to copy it in Your MODS-folder. After this Only copy/paste the air.ini entry in the readme  to Your air.ini.
Read the credits in the readme !

for the UP 2.1 users:  http://www.gamefront.com/files/20186751/SwordfishIIUP_zip   the 4.101 version works too but this file contains some 3d improuvements  https://www.mediafire.com/download/25iom58oasn3fqq/Swordfish.zip
 (https://www.mediafire.com/download/25iom58oasn3fqq/Swordfish.zip)
Enjoy

Doc

4.101 user who encounter problems with the loadout should extract this patch to Your Games-folder   http://www.gamefront.com/files/20187371/SwordfishIIpatch_zip          https://www.mediafire.com/download/25iom58oasn3fqq/Swordfish.zip (https://www.mediafire.com/download/25iom58oasn3fqq/Swordfish.zip)

Solution for doubled Wingstrutt in Cockpit view: https://www.mediafire.com/?ka5nfngsx573im6 (https://www.mediafire.com/?ka5nfngsx573im6) for DBW
Now You have the same view as for the Swordfish I of DBW.

the patch works for UP and SAS-modact or HSFX too. You have just to install the new meshes manually in the right place

Just extract in Your IL-2 Main-Game-folder and lett overwrite.

Thanks for the mod Doc. Unfortunately there's some problem as the rockets don't show up in the weapons list. Otherwise it seems to work just fine. I've got 4.101 + SAS Modact.

Doc, I've got the same results as mik88.  I have 4.101 + SAS Modact and everything works, but no rockets show up.

Are we missing some other mod or plane that adds the rockets?

I really appreciate your additions to the sim and this looks like another great addition once we sort out the problem with the rockets.

Thanks  ... TS

Edit: should have stopped here 1st, posted this on the WIP thread

Thanks for the new Swordfish Doc!

Works fine in my UP201(409m) install, just finished running
some test missions with various loadouts plus launch and
recovery from a carrier(HMS Formidable). No problems to report.

Cheers and Beers!, Bwf. 8)

I was convinced You do not need other mods. But perhaps I made a little fault.

Doe the rockets not show in loadout Text or Loadout screen ?  Can You use them in the game ??

At least my loadout list is incomplete with SAS modact version on v4.101m with SAS modact. I mean rocket loadouts and empty don't show up in loadout list, so I think java classes for rockets are missing. If just 3d were missing the loadout would be selectable without rockets visible.

Hi Birdman
I rechecked my classfiles right now:  the loadout for RP`s and deepcharges are complete, only empty is not there (I was too lazy)
But there is an conflikt with the Swordfish Mk.I who is already in the game as Ai plane !

Doc,

The rocket load out is not shown and therefore I can not load them to use them in the game.  I've tried the QMB & FMB with the same results.

I believe the AI plane is the Swordfish I and it's load outs are similar, but slightly different.  It doesn't have empty as an option either.

Hi

I checked the problem. And I found out that, if I run the plane in an empty MODS-folder, I have the problem too !

The plane is already in use > 130 times. Could You please give me feedback if all users have this problem !
It seems that only 4.101-versions make problems ??!

Hi at all

I am working restless on the problem ! 8)
But I did not find the solution.   But since the Mk.II works well with MOD-Packs  (HSFX and  UP 2.1) I think there is a problem with the weapon-files
Doc

I found it :

4.101 user with loadout problems should load this patch   http://www.gamefront.com/files/20187371/SwordfishIIpatch_zip      extract it to Your games folder

Thanks Doc, patch works.

Meanwhile I found the planes in my mods folder wich enabled working rockets and other loadouts without this patch: P2V5 Neptune and/or Liberator GR.V. But this is obsolet now..  ;)

Hi mate

we found this simultaneously  ;)

it were the deepcharges who caused the trouble !

I love these planes, but I am having a problem with the RN/RAF markings on the Swordfish I after I install the Swordfish II.  I get an immediate CTD if I select the RN markings for the Swordfish I.  Everything else seems okay.

If I uninstall the mk. II version, the mk. I version is fine.  The RN?RAF markings are back and it flies.

Can anyone help with this?  I have several versions of the game, and the problem ocurred in the simple UP 3.O as well as with the DBW 1.3 versions of the game.

I did not try it in my HSFX5.0 version.

Thanks!

Unfortunately I have the same Problem if I try to fly my Swordfish II  and  the Liberator GR.V

After flying the planes after some seconds the screen freezes.  :(

I have the problem only in my DBW (newest version + Deafult skin mod)  in UP 3  and HSFX no problem.

but I don`t know what`s the problem  :-[

This one is related to the SAS selector in my game.  I loaded the latest one in--the v1.5--and these problems developed.  When I went back to the 1.3b version that I had saved, the problem disappeared.

I love the selectors, but they do have some minor bugs still to be addressed.

I was playing the cranken campaign "dance macabre" flying for vichy France in Magadascar and then I was blocked in mission no.9. It was impossible to avoid a very strange 89% crash and needless to say the campaign that I was slowly finishing (It took me more that a month and I was 2 missions away from completing - I wish I had more time for IL-2!) was destroyed.
Three horrible hours passed. The problem was not only that I couldn't fix it, but my XTD file as I discovered later was damaged. So no forgotten countries anymore. So I couldn't even test the missions of the campaign. I had no clue was going on. I haven't passed such a stress for IL-2 for years.
Slowly but steadily, I verified that the problem was in the #DBW folder but not in the usual STD, XTD & MAPMODS folders. Fixing up the forgotten countries was relatively easy just changing the XTD folder with the original one. But it took me almost 3 hours to understand why some missions of the campaign were not loading!
Well...I discovered one of the strangest bugs I ever encountered in IL-2...all of you that you have installed this nice Shordfish Mk.II, try to play some missions where the Mk.I is involved and you'll experience a crash! It took me so long 'cause by the time I started the campaign, I haven't installed the Mk.II version yet so I could have never imagined. It's a pity because the mod is nice. Having a biplane with rockets is an curious combination.

Maybe the Mk.1 and Mk.11 clash because they're sharing the same files?

Hi Guys,

I have the same issue as Lewicide - duplication of cockpit struts. I had the same issue in the early beta , but I don't recall the correction. Any ideas?
Could i simply move the correct files from the Swordfish Mk I which is fine?
Could someone tell me which ?
Thanks.

In DBW 1.71 with Monty27 mod pack when I install Swordfish Mk.II, and when I choose Fairley Fulmar in QMB i have crash to desktop, when I take Swordfish Mk.I game has freezing (In airplane preview in QMB), but Swordfish Mk.II all is fine.

Oh because i saw here:  that if you deleted certain files from 4.09 version then you could delete the struts, although you also delete the struts from external view.

Am I the only one too dumb to install this correctly?
The MkII is there , no problem , but it has the extra struts and the MkI is fine.

For those with the purple windscreen, you need to go to the 3do/cockpit/TempestMkV sub-folder.
Find the file named skin1o.tgb, open it and save it as skin1o.tga.

Thanks again,

Regarding TFM 4.12.2:

I can get this plane working as an AI addition, but when I chose to fly it it explodes at the start of the mission.

I looked through for an explanation of exploding planes and got all kinds of explanations.  I have the same effect on all of my versions of 4.12.2.  Does anyone else encounter this on 4.12.2 with this plane?

I have tried everything I can think of to get this plane flyable in 4.12.2, but it constantly explodes at the start of each mission.

It works fine as an AI aircraft, and it seems fine in the QMB interface before the mission.

I played my 4.10 version and had a blast rocketing ships, but I would love to hear from anyone who got this plane working in 4.12.2 with instructions as to how to get it there.

I also noted that in DBW1.71 the mini-map has icons for ships so finding them is a lot easier.  I wish that was an option in 4.12.2 too, but  that is for another post, I suppose.  Thanks for your indulgence.

Hi

I have just the same promlem when trying to use it in 4.12.2++.
It looks fine in the QMB interface before the mission but the mission does not open up.
It goes up to100% but then it does not open the mission.
Let´s be patient, maybe someday it is meant to work in 412.

ok - I tested it on a vanillia 4.12.2 + Modact 5.30 - it works perfectly - till the rockets array. HOWEVER, pay attention to the fact that the flares are activated by the rocket trigger instead of being activated by the bomb trigger - and this explains the problems met by various players, an of course the fact that the rocket part of the array is "blocked" being written in the java class after the "flares" array. This configuration is known to make the AI go crazy, and the presence of some other mods creates strange behaviors. I got in this mud when I made my first mods (F4U-4 and F4U5) and it took all the patience of CY6 to solve this problem. To solve that the easiest and most adequate way is also the lengthiest: The SW2 class must be totally rewritten, and new additional bomb hooks must be added to the lower wing meshes.

So basically, with a bunch of other mods, this is going to be a problem for 4.12.2.

I think I can wait.

OK - here's  the fix  - on my 41.2.2 with modact5.30 it works fine:
1)I reshaped the SW2 java class arrays
and
2) I added the missing classes for the Mk53 depth charge (they come from UP3.0 and are absent from other Il2 versions)
Just pour these 3 hashed files in your swordfish folder
https://www.mediafire.com/?1y2bdp8gxx26462
(when asked whether you want to replace the current file 258E9E4CDFBED4EC by the new one , say yes - it's the new SW2 class)

Ok I've made a number of checks and the problem is as follow:

1) on a Vanillia 4.12.2 instllation with Modct 5.30 the mod works fine once we add the fix I uploaded earlier

2) on this same installation BUT with the SAS_Flyable_AI_Aircraft enabled, the mod crashes
The reason: the cockpit files called by the mod are both named Similarly to the cockpit classes of the original Swordfish1 mod - Although they have  different content!
Moreover the gunner classes still contains conditional reference to the original swordfish1 mod - and as these original classes are present in the files of the SAS_Flyable_AI_Aircraft - this causes the to game enter in a loop.
The solution - to re-write all the classes of this mod, with different names, and to rename the cockpit folders with different names
It's what I did and it worked (I did not rename the cockpit TempestMkV folder as it seems to include a repaint that betters the Tempest cockpit - though I feel that the glass material used still needs to be improved )

OK - the rewritten mod is here (delete all the files of the previously installed Swordfish II mod as they would keep interfering with the SAS_Flyable pack):
https://www.mediafire.com/?c6bzc67go1j39bq

air.ini additions are the same:
SwordfishMk.II     air.SW2 1                     NOINFO   gb01 SUMMER

I hope it will solve the problem   :)

DreamK,

This is a very friendly challenge for you:  regarding the SeaGladiator

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=2585.36

I suspect that your work on the Swordfish II could be the root of correcting the problems with the SeaGladiator in 4.12.2

Would you give it a shot?

yes, the error log, by default, goes inside the main game folder, along with the conf and others.
by default, it's called 'log.lst'
if it isn't there, then make sure that your game folder isn't inside Program Files folder, as per our basic guides which seem to generally be ignored by many new members - otherwise you will have Windows permissions problems, such as not being able to keep any changes made in conf.ini...
until newer guys read the guides and tutorials available to get the basics right, it's hard to impossible to offer valid help.
i've gone through your posts, and although you've asked for help several times with different things, not once have you posted up any info on where you've installed your game, and this worries me.
it's absolutely essential for anyone new to this sim to READ, READ and then READ some more first, before just jumping in and asking for help without having the basics done correctly.
everything you could want to ask has pretty much been answered and is available here on the forums in some form of guide/tutorial, so other than specific mod issues, there really is no excuse for not knowing the basic stuff.
so, get the basics right first, and then we can help, but until then, there's not much we can do....
where is your IL-2 game installed, for starters?

and which version of this plane have you tried to install?

info, please...we are not mind readers, lol  :D

uh, my logs are being generated now... and about the information i didnt give, was because i thought that was a common error, and easily to be resolved haha, next time ill give all informations. Now with the log, later ill try again and put the log here.

yep, it's good practise to always provide game/mods version info each and every time you ask for help, so that we can have that info at hand without having to ask for it each time.
there's no such thing as a common error, especially considering the various different version of the modded and stock game  ;)

and...it would've helped me to get you going in the right direction if you just answered my previous questions on where your game is installed, and which version of the plane you downloaded.
see what i mean? i'm trying to help you, but you're not making it easy for me, that i have to ask the same thing twice before i get an answer...
all fine and well to give me the reasons why you didn't post that up yet (i know you're new, so i can understand it's a bit much in the beginning), but you could have got things going quicker already by answering the questions i already asked you - you didn't need to read up on anything to give me those answers...

well i didn't had answered your questions about where the game is installed or about the version i'm playing because like i've said, i'll put all informations here after i try again later, with the log file, version, etc etc.. what matter to know where it is if i cant show the error? as you told, there's not a common error, so i've thinking how those information could be useful without the error details in the log, may i be wrong but.. anyway if it'll be helpful, its inside C:\Program Files (x86)\IL-2 Sturmovik - 1946\#SAS and im playing with the 4.12 version and SAS modact 5.3, and the plane version is that one for 4.101+SAS MODACT. (or at least i think it is that version, the link downloads are a bit of confuse.

..and that is exactly why i asked for that info up front  -  because you won't be able to get a log while your game is installed inside Program Files.
this is because of Windows permission issues in that folder.
any changes you make to conf.ini will simply disappear when you next run the game, and you will NEVER get an error log
you need to copy the entire game folder to a location outside of Program Files, for example C:/Games/IL-2 Sturmovik, and then run it from that location.
you don't need to reinstall it, simply copy the entire game folder. you can do this as many times as you like, and have as many copies of the game as you like.
we won't ask for info unless it is necessary, and when you said you couldn't find the log, i already guessed that it was because the game is installed in Program Files. now you understand why i ask the things i did, in the order i did.
as i said, we are trying to help you - and if you are new, and don't quite understand everything yet, it's best to just accept the advice given, and answer the questions we ask, instead of trying to guess by yourself what we might or might not need.
i am not trying to be a wiseguy, sorry if it may sound like it - i am really just trying to help you, to help us, to help you.....that is how this community works. ;)

and i realize another thing, the game does not freeze entirely at 100%, i'm able to pause the game pressing "esc", and i go to options pause screen, as if when we press esc in middle of a quick match , and cant get back, if i try to QMB screen by clicking done at the mission statistics, the button also freeze, and i cant go back, but only the that button, the other appears to work correctly

if you make the correct edits in conf.ini, and your game is now outside of Program Files, then the error log will be called 'log.lst'
that is the only error log which we are concerned with.
whether you use this plane or not, you must be able to use this error log for any future problems you might have. without it, no-one here can help you with anything, so it is imperative that you can get this log working....

also, i asked you earlier which version of the game you downloaded, as i suspect you downloaded the wrong one.
you confirmed that for me in your last reply, you are using the wrong version, 4.101.
you need the version that works for 4.12.2, and that version is not linked in the first post!
the correct version of this plane is linked a few posts before your first post in this thread, on page 8 of the thread, second post (reply # 85)

and that is the reason we ask people to first read the full thread before asking a question which didn't need to be asked....
i am not a big fan of listening to my own voice, so i don't like to repeat things over and over for each new member.
we ask certain things of new guys, such as reading first, before posting, and this is a perfect example of why we ask this....

hooray! yes! finally, we make some progress... :D  .....   that is the right log, and that is the one we will ask for in most cases, when there are problems...
so this log indicates a definite problem with incorrect/missing classes for this plane.
please remove the one you have, and install the one i indicated to you in my previous post, then let us know how that works...

Thanks a bunch, I'm creating a what-if campaign in which Japan never attacked Pearl Harbor, hence delaying American entry of war, and I really don't want to rely too much on American Lend Lease articles (Avenger, Corsair, etc.), even though the challenge of bringing back a Seafire is truly discouraging.

Your campaign sounds interesting milvipes, a few nights ago I tried to take a Spitfire off a carrier just for old times sake, it took me a few goes to finally get the hang of it again so I know what you are getting at, I should leave it to the AI. :D

There are now so many new additions of aircraft and ships into IL-2 that now should be the best time ever for a career/campaign for a Naval Aviator, go for it I say. 8)

That what if campaign sounds interesting. I was working on one of my Eastern Front what if campaigns until recently. Then someone made a bunch of Romanian WWI skins. Then a fault was discovered in the WWI Romanian campaign I'd released a lot earlier. So, I've re-vamped that, and will re-release it. I'm using his skins. Good luck with your campaign.

cheers

Just installed in version 4.09, all working except the missing rockets and depthcharges.

Would appreciate any help anyone can offer in terms of activating some kind or any kind of rockets on this aircraft!
(Depthcharges I probably have no use for anyway, sadly)

So what is the strange version of your game?

Just installed in version 4.09, all working except the missing rockets and depthcharges.
What you write is very important and therefore must be precise!
I guess the right sentence is: "missing depthcharges and rockets".
According to the weapon order given in the weapons.properties!
In this case it means that you don't have in your game the Mk53 Deep Charges.
In this case go and see here : https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,56772.0.html
In the PBM archive you will find a "weapons" folder.

Working 100%!  I know the Russian I-153 can carry rockets, but somehow the Swordfish feels even older and more archaic.  Feels strange to see something so old carrying what would have been relatively modern rockets.  Fun to shoot them at things though!
