Title: May Day Parade 1937 - I-16 Type 5
Post by: tmtmac18 on July 31, 2011, 12:03:28 AM
I spotted the beauties searching through the "Modeling the VVS" website, I learned quite a bit and I was amazed by some of the history behind these planes! Read the article I will link! Their acrobatic performance was amazing!

Red I-16 Type 5 (Piloted by V. Chkalov)

Blue I-16 Type 5 (Piloted by S. Suprun)

Yellow I-16 Type 5 (Piloted by P. Stefanovskiy)

All of the wings looked like the one below, just with their corresponding color.

Exert from 'VVS Art Deco: Oddities of Camouflage 1934-41' (http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/Markings/I16/artdeco-i16.php (http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/Markings/I16/artdeco-i16.php))
"These three machines and their gifted pilots put on what observers have recalled as the greatest flying exhibition in the history of aviation. During the middle of the May Day parade, these aircraft appeared over Red Square in formation, connected one to each other by a five meter long piece of red ribbon. In this fashion, Chkalov, Suprun, and Stefanovski performed all manner of intensive aerobatics--loops, slow barrel rolls, inverted flight, and much more--in formation, never once breaking the ribbon between them. Indeed, the performance was so astounding that the entire event was apparently brought to a halt as all on-lookers below became transfixed by the three gorgeous aircraft in such improbable flight. The demonstration concluded with a roaring low-level pass over St.Basel's to the thundering applause of the crowds below."

I was going to begin work on these myself, but I simply could not find a way to get the 'Gunk' off of the Void files nor turn the Void white to AEh-9 Grey without disturbing it's markings on the wings and such. :/ ALL the information on the paints and colors is on that original article. (Link provided) For resources on the actual colors, check out my new 'World War II Countries' Paints' Project! It has the colors you need ;)
THANK YOU!

Sorry I can't provide a direct link, but you should still be able to find these at Flightsimfiles (http://www.flightsimfiles.com/) ..along with all my other 'oldies'. They were among my first skins back in 2005, so the quality is not up to par by today's standards, but they might do in a pinch :)

Well, this is not a link for skin. This is just a picture, in the second post Rudi_Jaeger tells us that we can find skin on flightsimfiles website. This website doesn't work.
