Well done. A great piece of work.

A work of art (and patience...) 8)

This one doesn't appear to be as successfull as WESTFRONT44 :( ... Do people prefer late war missions & airplanes ?

-
With the arrival of both the Dewoitine and the Bloch, your map will certainly enlarge its potential audience! ;)
-
Thanks Gilles!
Perfectly made a lot of work!
(I like the summer version of the map)
Good luck in your other projects.
-
These and 1944 are the greatest map ever for IL-2... my opinion. Just take 2nd Tactical Air Force and JG26 War Diaries and recreate any mission!!.
Too bad i just moved to London and still don´t get my newcomputer....
-
Gilb
They are brilliant maps mate, really love them both, just have not had a lot of time to fully appreciate them lately. Thanks for all your hard work.

Most waited items are coming. Thanks for this beautiful map, with incoming French A/C as D520, MB152, VG33,and BR693 (?) a forgotten campaign will be at last available.
As I said in previous posts, seems to me this period was less interesting for modders than last war one and Korea-Vietnam, maybe times are changing!
-
This map and its "cousins" is a masterpiece ... ;D
-
I use both your masterpieces for early and late war scenarios!!!
I can't fly western without them!!!
Thanks for your hard and detailed work mate!!!
All the best!
walter
-
Well thx, everybody ;D
I suppose that if the work is good, finished and enough bug-free, it's just useless to wait for more comments ;)
In french, we say : "no news, good news", that's it !

I am very glad for this. I will make missions for it as soon as this map come in DBW. It is leathal for me to DL it without getting trouble in next buildt of DBW.
Thank you very much for this and I going to put it on the DBW list of request
-
Thanks very much for such a wonderful map! Your hard work is certainly appreciated by me ;)

GilB57
Fantastic map. And loved the France v. England world cup rugby game - great result :)
-
Any chance of getting this as a QMB addition in DBW 1.7 ??
Fantastic map BTW

Fantastic map BTW
Easy really just updated Europe_BOF take those missions and write the load ini for this map in them, or wait until this map get in DBW then I will make missions for it. The job of updating DBW if one install maps on it is quite more than I wish for
-
I don't play any campaigns, but i just enjoy flying over this map. Nice feeling of realistic :)
Thanks Gilles.

... looks good on the ground or close to it (in the afternoon with clear weather) but colors shift fast to pale light green within haze or morning light in a distant view :( (tested on v.4.101 / SAS ModAct with specified autumn date in mission file 01-10-1943)

So we have to tell now Poltava so he can use it to the update of Triumph in the West 1940.
I'm so excited .... :D

@GilB57 : Sorry I have problem to load maps , I D/L the final version, put it IN JSME and activated in JSME (no conflict) and loading in FMB it tell me "Map "2D not found"..this for both summer (blitzkrieg) and Winter version..do you any idea?..I use HFSX 5.01 version + bOOMER OBJECT PACK IN SFS FORMAT COMING FROM UP (updated .RC and static.ini provided for working with HFSX version too)
-
This one I must have in DBW 1.7 you are a artiste :-*
-
@ X-Raptor :
it appears that a file can't be found (tex or specific map file) : please, use shift+tab to open the console after the error in FMB. You may find in the text there which exact file is missing...
-
I've got the same problem - the message is:
Section [MAP2D] not found in 'maps/WestFront40/WF40 load.ini'
It is there in WF40 load ini, so....what?
Thanks in advance
-
There are some major texturing issues which I'll post screenshots of a little later.
Nontheless, this is one of my favorite maps, well done!
Some issues I noticed:
-The CH towers do not exist; there are just platforms floating in space, one on top of the other
Screenshots of the errors to come.

I have this problem as well, can you tell me the fix for this? screen shot below.

thanks in advance,

It appears that no specific file is missing: it's possible that the whole folder "WestFront40" is NOT where it should be. (bad install ?)
Sorry , can't say more ...
-
Thanks Gilles
I am writing a series of Blitzkrieg missions for this map...
-

Thx !!! This is a great idea !
...waiting for a few birds to come ... (or come back: what happened to Do17Z ?)
-
... (or come back: what happened to Do17Z ?)
... there is a bug with the bombing sight, the consequence is no accurate bombing possible, so crazyflak withdrew the DL link and is working on a fix ... ;)
-
Ok, thx !
-
I have converted my Battle of France 1940-campaign to use this GREAT map! (And for the Morane-Saulnier 406.) More info will follow soon in the campaigns section, but you can in the meantime read about it (and D/L it) here:
http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads3&file=details&id=1141
(http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t286/Poltava/aaa_glory_defeat_1.jpg)
PS. Where DID you get that wonderful Dewoitine from???
-
X-raptor and Angus.
Open the file jsgemods. Open 02_WestFront40. Open files. Click on the file WestFront40 and drag it so that the files inside this folder is moved to the modfile in #Dbw --> MapMods --> maps.
I think that you have made the mistake to install the folder called 02_WestFront40 directly in the map called maps. You should not do so. It is the WestFront40 file that should end up in the modded folder.
If you did not do se. Try to do this and see what happens.
-
Any chance of getting this as a QMB addition in DBW 1.7 ??
Fantastic map BTW
Now available in the Mission Pro section.
-
Poltava, your campaign looks great. Starting mission 2 and 3 however, the players aircraft and others are thrown about a hundred metres into the air on spawn. Something mus have gone wrong in the conversion. :/

I could fix similar isue by opening the mis file in FMB, change something small and the resave it.

PS. Where DID you get that wonderful Dewoitine from???
(From Claymore as being a beta-testor of his plane which is currently WIP ... )
Congratulations for this new campaign ! ;D ;D ;D

What version of IL-2 are you using?
-
I'm on 4.11 with SAS modact. When I attempt to open the missions in FMB the game freezes and my PC locks up.
-
I'm sorry, but it was built in 4.101/DBW 1.7, and they probably don't match... :-\
-
Hi Poltava
How do I install this map in DBW 1.71
I dwlded your campaign but I think This map is not part of DBW1.71
Thanks
-
Go to post number one in this thread! ;)
-
For people who use DBW with FBDSM, there's a little fix to do in your WF40_load.ini file:
[WORLDPOS]
CAMOUFLAGE = ETO
... in order to have correct skins for some planes :
-
Thanx for the fix... ;)
-
Beautiful artwork! Of all the maps available I use just a few, yours are the best. Nice feel down low. Lots of trees. I would rather make a very detailed local missons, and have ten fearful minutes of arse biting action, than worry about the expansivness of bland landscapes. I'll leave that for people who put British roundels on JU-87s and shoot down B-29s with German markings on??!!
In your Norway Summer map, there is a place in the bottom left corner near 'Bamf' (spelling), I use this small place to make lots of Western Front missions, it has beautiful fields, and from watching gun camera footage of airfields being straffed yours looks very similar.
If I can find a nice ridge in the landscape next to the water, I am able to lift ships out of the water and place them on the ridge and expose their hulls and propellers, then use 'destroyed' objects to create a whole ship building yard arround it, also using the small radar towers as ship buiding cranes - looks real, will try to post pics (once I learn how to - I'm new to DBW-SAS) but been playing for the full 11 years.
Anyway, any future maps, please make small ridges and bumps next to water/river inlets to place ships/Uboats on, ....and please make some large grassy fields here and there as they are brilliant for making forward airfields. These two things are hard to find in any map, and frustrating when a nice place is available but I am then unable to destroy objects becuase the destruction is limited to local cities/towns.
Your maps are brilliant!
-
Thx !

and only this plane doesn't want land on this airfield:
??? What's happening ?

Soon I hope to complete a RAF campaign for this GREAT map, set in May 1940.
It is a 13-mission static campaign, where you got to fly both the earliest variant of the Hurricane (with the two-bladed propellor) and the later, more powerful Mk I (with the three-bladed prop, and armour plating).
If anyone would like to PLAYTEST it, I would be most grateful. If you do, just PM me!
-
Great !
Did you knew that :
(My online squad. is 615sqn) 615 sqn went in France in November 1939 with .... Gladiators ! ...and converted to Hurricanes just before the invasion in May 1940 ! :o
-
Yes, in the campaign you actually get to see some Gladiators in action - poor sods, against Bf 109:s - and to rescue them.
-
Thanks GilB57, it looks good from the air.
cheers
David Prosser
-
Thanks for your efforts, this game just gets better and better . ;D
Cheers,

I'm running 4.09m IL2 with UP2.01...what are my chances of loading this brill map on current set-up...?
-
I think it will okay (be sure to have the latest release http://gillesbabin.perso.neuf.fr/trucs-et-bidules/simul-westfront40uk.htm :
This mapmod, is activated with JSGME A winter & a spring map are included with around 60 airfields, new texs .
COMPATIBILITY:
-IL2-1946 4.09M modded UP 2.01
-IL2-1946 4.101 modded UP 3.0 or SAS ModAct + objects pack .
Included Readme.doc (.rtf) gives all details for installation et gameplay.
Better gameplay with at least 2Gb RAM ;)
-
Thanks G57, it's a nice piece of work.
I have a problem with the best maps I've seen though, The Channel maps, I eventually get a message 'mission fail/russian/paratroopers/' etc etc....do you know how I can fix this one in one easy step?
-
Yes, I know this problem : this a video card problem, do you have ATI ?
If I remember well, it can be fixed with conf.ini edition , look here :
[Render_OpenGL]
TexQual=3
TexMipFilter=3
TexCompress=2
... the last line is the most important... you may try it ?
1941: Bf109Fs over Vlissingen airfield.
-
You must also have this line; TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=1 in [Render_OpenGL] as well as TexCompress=2
The two work together :)
Cheers Dakpilot
-
Good-O!! Thanks, I now have an i7, with ASUS GTX680 so I hope that will do the trick. ...Dover here we come. Just forget about all those guys (and girls?) still running Pentium 4's and 386dx's make your maps a complex as you want...or are there other limitations besides power and grunt?
-
Everything I've seen, or read about this map has been superlative. I would love to have it on my machine. I'm trying to play the Glory 1940 campaign, and I just can't seem to get the map to co-operate. I've tried everything this dense old brain can think of, bu I keep getting stymied with a, "Landscape 'WestFront40/WF40_load.ini' loading error" message.
I know that it's just something simple, but it's driving me round the bend.
Help. Please.
Gil
-
The error message suggest some missing file. You need to open your console (shift+tab) to know which file is missing ?
Currently, there are so many modded installation that it is difficult to help someone who just tell :
and I just can't seem to get the map to co-operate. I've tried everything this dense old brain can think of, bu I keep getting stymied with a, "Landscape 'WestFront40/WF40_load.ini' loading error" message.
Please:
1-Have you CAREFULLY red the included "readme" documents ?
2-Did you EXACTLY follow the instructions there ?
If so, just tell us:
1- what IS your IL2 version ?
2- what missing file does the console show ?
...It's up to you now ;)
-
From my experience the "WestFront40/WF40_load.ini' loading error" message often means that you have made some small mistake in the air.ini. Check and re-check the air.ini against the map files.
-
Many thanks gentlemen for taking the time to reply to my little problem. I'm running DBW1.7.1 acquired from the "Great Honkin' one shot update. It was loaded into my clean IL-2 v4.09.
I checked my procedures carefully. Tried to be very exact. This the first mapmod I've tried to put in the game. I dumped the entire game, reloaded from my working backup, and tried again. This time I made some progress. Before all else I tried to see if the maps showed up on the FMB list. They did. But then, they had on my previous tussle.
This time I called up the 40 summer map, and got a java error. Wouldn't load. The 40 winter map, however, came right up, slicker than black ice. No problem.
I'm suspecting that I might be working with a bad download of the map. I'm trying a fresh download now. We shall see. I'll send up a rocket if it works.
Thanks again for your time and trouble with this old bumbler.

I have probably used the old Battle of France map before, but with the new Hampden I tried to open the Westfront40 summer map.
No luck
The log complaint says that a number of tex-files are missing. All ending in "Pr".

Well - I made it work eventually.
The loadfile must have been corrupted somehow - also some GP forest were changed into sk forest.
No idea how that has happened
