Title: Seversky P-35 [4.09] [4.10] [4.12]
Post by: Frankiek on December 01, 2009, 08:14:57 AM
The Seversky P-35 was a fighter aircraft built in the US ad was the first single-seat fighter in U.S. Army Air Corps to feature all-metal construction, a retractable landing gear and an enclosed cockpit.
Due to the weak armament and a not very powerfull engine the P-35's performance was poor even by contemporary standards and, although USAAC flyers appreciated the aircraft's ruggedness, it was already obsolete by the time deliveries were finished in 1938.
Nonetheless despite its obsolescence as a fighter design, the P-35 served as the inspiration for the promising Italian Reggiane Re.2000 Falco fighter which bears a superficial similarity in layout and the very successful P-47 Thunderbolt

(https://storebror.it.cx/sas/archive/sas2/Frankiek/Seversky_P-35A_USAF.jpg)

This mod is derived from the 3d model of the Re-2000 introducing the historical loadouts and original FM.

As usual is a work in progress and additional improvements are on their way.

Tested for compatibility with 4.101 and working fine with clean install 4.101 +SAS Modact 2.72

I have both a "test" game and a "working" game.Test is used individual mods of various kinds before they get fed to the working game.The updated P-35 was NP in the test version but wouldn't show in the working one.

SO,boys and girls.....remember to disable the original version with the Mighty Minus sign. It's called Air P-35. It took me a while to figger this out.

[DJP] I've put the initial DL into UP 1.8. I like it. I guess if someone did a Peru-Ecuador War campaign, there could be an opportunity to use it. The Ecudorians got some from the US in 1942. However if you wanted to play fast and loose with the facts, you could perhaps put one or two early arrivals in. During the war, the Ecuadorians had no airforce to speak of. The Peruvians had the Ca114. I like that too. I guess the SU2 could be used as a sub for their two seat attack plane. You'd have to use the JU 52, or C47 for the Peruvian paratroopers. There's nothing else available. You'd have to substitute BTs for the 38Ts, unless the more recent mods include them.

I'll add the more recent bits of the P-35 when I get home from work.

happy landings

I know this aircraft is derived from the Re-2000 ... but I was wondering if there is any significant difference between the 2?

This because in DBW it pays to keep added planes to a minimum. If the P-35 differs a lot, then it might be worth adding to DBW as a mod plane. Otherwise using a P-35 can be done by using the appropriate skins on an Re-2000 ...

I have continuously scrolled past this plane in the list... to things I thought were more interesting..  :-[ but last night... interest in prewar aviation developments, and simple curiosity got the best of me finally after all these months... and I downloaded this. Placed it in 4.111 HSFX ModAct4..

Now I can not say enough how wrong I was! This is one of the sweetest little fighters I have flown yet! Its tough as nails.. flies great.. is reasonably fast...and though somewhat limited in firepower... it still gives a good account of itself in battle. I managed to knock down 3 out of 7 A5M4 before the sheer number hits i had recieved emptied my fuel tanks.  :D

 Many thanks and props for such an awesome addition! Looks great flying with B-17D by the way! If I had a US map.... I would be cruising around the States in this little bird all the time, escorting bomber wings to various training bases.  ;D

...ARE there US maps??

No.
No USA maps yet.

My Mistake... there are a few maps out there already, but more will be created one day soon.

You can also help out to create some US mainland maps. .

Well yes there is one - I made it on request once and it's rather basic and certain to be hopelessly antiquated by now ... but anyway there is one for the Pensacoloa training area ...

Just remember, it's basic and very basically populated.

Hi, agracier, even a basic map is much better than no map at all. That's especially so, if you want a career beginning with the player working up to getting their wings, or participating in some peace time exercises. Your other maps are very good, so I assume this basic one is too.

cheers

Well, since my father is from Mobile I had to make a bit of an effort for the city ... ha ha.

I remember visiting back in the early 1960's and going to Fort Morgan on the Gulf. That really blew my young mind ...

Request that this be put into "Maps" somewhere.

Agracier,

I was on the "Gulf Cleanup"...based out of Pensacola...patrolled that area backwards and forwards...Johnson's Beach to Perdido Key.  I took some F6C's, and flew a circuit on this map.  I was astounded...just need to add Fort Pickens off Pensacola...

...can't say enough good about this map.

In the spirit of things...the P-35 is in my stable...and an important member.

Cheers

Request that this be put into "Maps" somewhere.

It's already in the American maps thread

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,21661.12.html

But still, it's not finished and being so old, the map is not really up to par with recent map releases ... these older maps were easier to make as the standards were no so stringent as they are now ... since, there have been tons of improvements in their appearance, but it does require more time to implement all the improvements ...

...when I was working on the "Gulf Cleanup"...I based myself in a place called the "Key West Inn"...which, since I'd stayed there the year, previously...was not owned by the same cats.  ...did it anyway, and it worked out fine.  ...but it was still a hoot.

Funny how life works.

I do not use 412, this should work to fix the landing gear, please let me know if it does. Just unzip, take the classfile in it and drop it in the P-35's folder overwriting the original classfile.

CWatson, you da man! Thanks a lot, working gear now. Hooray!

If the original author of this mod would like to include this fix in the original download, please do so. Changes still allows compatibility with earlier versions of game too.

For those curious what was changed, simple, in the P_35xyz classfile
These lines:
Quote
    protected void moveGear(float f)
    {
        RE_2000xyz.moveGear(hierMesh(), f);
Was changed to:
Quote
    protected void moveGear(float f)
    {
        moveGear(hierMesh(), f);

So P-35 no longer references the Re 2000 for gear animation commands.

The gear fix works in the current TFM-412 and it should be included in Storebror's "Jugs Reloaded" mod.  In addition, I would suggest that this fix should be included as part of the "Jugs Reloaded" in the CFM being completed right now by Monty!

Fly,

Could you please make a couple of generic skins for the P-35.  I haven't been able to find any without markings to use in a generic red vs generic blue campaign.  Would it be possible to get something like the "94th PS,Selfridge Field, 1938" and/or "23" skins with out any US stars, tail flashes, lettering, etc.?   I've never done any skinning so I don't know what's involved or how difficult it is.

Thanks ...tooslow
