hey guys,
i just want to know, is blender 3d a legit way to make 3d models for il2?
i just don't feel like spending $3,500 on 3ds max.

if jc uses it, it is certainly possible to make 3d models for planes with it. this is all the info i need.
thx!

Blender is a pretty good 3d modeling program, but the interface is very different from other program. Download a keyboard map for it and spend a lot of time being frustrated until you learn the keystrokes.
I'm not sure of the mechanics of exporting as a 3ds Max file are.

JapanCat is a very advaced user and can give important hints for work with IL-2.

If you really fancy learning to use a new modeling tool from scratch, I suggest learning Gmax. That way, the leap from Gmax to 3Dmax is quite small and easy. The interfaces are more or less the same. To go from Blender to 3Dmax is a far more difficult task.

IL-2 was made by what version of old 3dmax? Is that old version better for work with IL-2?

guys, i do not want to stress jc because English isn't his first language, and it would be difficult for him to explain to me.
is anybody else good at blender?

There are tutorials on Youtube

I am not sure, but I think that at last stage of creation , you 3D Blender model will have to be converted to 3Dsmax format in order to be integrated to iL-2 .
I do not know how to make this conversion .

Perhaps Gmax would be a better program to use. It is freeware version of 3ds max. ;)

Near now, Diving Hawk makes ship MODs by Blender and MshConverter.
Exporting/Importing between Blender <--> 3ds Max is .OBJ format is useful.
But GMAX has limited functions at importing, GMAX is disable to read .OBJ file.
GMAX can read only .3ds file, and export nothing(.msh is able by BuggyBuggy exporter).
When you want to makea MOD by only freeware, there are 2 way....
1. all working on only GMAX
2. modeling on Blender and export .OBJ --> using MshConverter
But I heard MshConverter has a serious bug in .OBJ -> .msh converting.
Which way Diving Hawk solve this problem, I don't know.

I forgot to meantion that if you are a student or are affiliated with a school, you can get a 3 year license on the educational version of 3ds Max.
