Title: Grumman Ge-23 Delfin - update 03 - includes US Navy FF-1 [4.10] [4.12]
Post by: Dreamk on June 12, 2012, 12:01:27 AM
The Ge-23 Delfin was a Canadian license produced land version of Grumman FF-1 naval fighter. it was a fast attack plane - a fighter and light bomber, aimed at armed reconnaissamce and penetration - the first of the "Intruders" . Its speed was its main advantage in Spain.
Note:
The Gear is a manual gear, so you'll need to attribute keyboard keys, if not already down, for lowering and retracting this landing gear
The Hook appears on the FF1 and is fully functional.

this plane is btw a wonderful pleasure to use as fighter, swift and agile and about as sleek looking as a bloated whale ... something really different.

All your aircraft are just a step from being perfect.
And that step is some more work on the wingtips.

Please take this as a suggestion, not as a bad critic.   ;)

Does anybody already bought the Osprey Spanish Republican Aces book? Is there some Grumman Delfin profile in it? ::)

I suggest you the book "Delfin" by David Gesalí, a 340 DIN A4 pags book all about the grumman dolphin particularly in the Spanish Civil War.

Oh, aside from the wingtips I can state with absolute certainty that the templates also need extra work done to them ... ha ha.

Great plane. Thank you. :) May I make two requests? First a skin request This would look great dressed up like this..

second, DreamK would consider making this with a tail hook in its own slot for the Grumman "Fifi" ? She would add to the game as the carrier based plane.

Thank you gentleman.Great work on this one. :)

The output, and quality of this stellar group is just amazing. Thanks to DreamK and Agracier, and company this community now has a marvelous new window opened to us. Here are scads of new aircraft that, I'd bet, no one would have bet they'd ever see in IL-2. It's a war I'm definitely going to have to pay more attention to. If I had medals to present these guys would get them.

Problems? Maybe a few, but nothing off-putting. I'm sure they'll all be addressed.

Bravo to all involved.

Now let's see what wonders the Mission Makers and Campaign Creators can do with this treasure trove.

I can't wait.

Post by: Radoye on June 12, 2012, 08:44:25 AM
First of all, thank you for all the wonderful planes you made for us. This is exactly what this game needs more - older types somewhat obsolete by WW2 standards but still used in great numbers by many nations so therefore infinitely more important than any of the "paper-waffe" projects people seem to be so excited about.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Now for a little pedanticism:

The Ge-23 Delfin was a Canadian license produced land version of Grumman FF-1 naval fighter. it was a fast attack plane - a fighter and light bomber, aimed at armed reconnaissamce and penetration - the first of the "Intruders" .

Nope, the CCF Goblin (as G23 was officially known in Canada) was actually a version of Grumman SF-1, not FF-1.

FF-1 was a single-seat fighter, SF-1 was a two-seat "scout" ie armed reconnaissance.

Add a carrier hook to this and you got an USN SF-1. Delete the gunner-observer position too and it's FF-1.

Title: Re: Grumman Ge-23 Delfin, Ready to DL
Post by: Dreamk on June 12, 2012, 09:40:10 AM
Well, I also though so BUT it appears that the original FF-1 was indeed a two-seater fighter (in the fashion of the period) and the museum example at the US Navy Air museum at Pensacola is definetively stated as FF-1 "The museum's 'FF-1' is actually an export version of the aircraft designated the G-23 built by Canadian Car & Foundry under rights acquired from Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation. It was the sole example purchased by the Nicaraguan government, one of three different aircraft procured to form the basis of that nation's air force."
The SF-1 was a scout version, quite similar but with a different engine and different fuel loads and radio equipment suited to its scouting task.

There are so many new aircraft that I have difficulty copying with the pace of all the new planes that I see everyday appearing in this section. It's impossible to download them and install all of them properly. I am returning back home and I really have no time to look at them all. That's the best compliment I hope I can give to you for all your excellent work.

Thank you very much for the FiFi. :) My only wish list for her is the open canopy view from the external view and the historical loadout of a 100 lb bomb. Also a Japanese skin for as they shipped one to the Japanese. Quote from Wiki...

AXG1- A single Grumman FF-2 supplied to the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service for evaluation in 1935

Great work and thank you so very much. :)

Update 2 replaces previous release of one Delphin plane; now there are two planes ( FF1+hook was added).
Apply update 3 to  the "update 2"-version of the mod.  ;)

Thanks. With your help, I figured things out.

Great skins, Archie. I was waiting for the next update (with the cowling, the landing light and the exhausts hopefully fixed) to do some Republicans, but you have been faster.

Really a good work. The "indian" one is a very peculiar, I'm not sure it really did wore the Chieftain face, it's one of these stories from the SCW that one tells so many times that it becomes true.

Thanks a lot!

Working on a Gulfhawk hack skin for this plane (sorry, no screenies right now), and can't help thinking that this would be a good basis for a JF/J2F Duck (if we don't have a model for that)  I know it's not SCW, but it'd be pretty awesome.

Nice plane . Thanks !
There is a little graphical issue with the propeller : it does not seem to rotate when engine is running .

And canopy does not open in external view , even it is open in cockpit view .

( installation : 4.10.1 + modact 3.06 )

Icon can be changed. Plane works in 4.12 but need some Gunsight rework /PoV management in 4.12

The plane works in HSFX 7.02.
But the propeller is not animated . The blades of the propeller stay in this position when flying :

The "land" version works like a charm in the new Ultraspain for 4.12.2. Gunsight has been corrected by Ton.

Title: FF-1 Goblin and Ge-23 Delfin for 4.12 [4.12]
Post by: Stefan SG on May 03, 2014, 05:24:44 AM
Let me propose a standalone version of FF-1 Goblin/Ge-23 Delfin for 4.12:

- working in 4.12 gunsight
- FF-1 has separate default USN skin
- Ge-23 has a new default skin

That's great news! Merci Stefan!!

BTW, here there are 4 late (1938-1939) Delfin Skins I made for a special mission we flew:

(http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy112/Tofolo/Vilajuiga%2006-02/il2fb2014-02-0715-01-54-94_zpsafadf1ce.png~original) (http://s783.photobucket.com/user/Tofolo/media/Vilajuiga%2006-02/il2fb2014-02-0715-01-54-94_zpsafadf1ce.png.html)

Download (https://www.mediafire.com/?a838sbplbq227qc)

Notice that in Republican colors they rarely wore the red fuselage band, unlike the rest of the FARE aircraft.

Thanks again for your job, keep'em coming!

Shouldn't the FF1 have some kind of ordnance to drop?.................  I noticed in wep.ru that the Delfin does, and the FF1 does not.

Did the prop get fixed in HSFX 7.0.2?

Giving all credit to PA Geronimo's  #_Nuevo Mod de Ruedas wheels mod for the Grumman Duck , which struck me as similar in essential design to the Gelfin,   I  cut and pasted the four files (Disc, gearII and the two Gear*.msh files) from the Grumman Duck wheels mod to the Gelfin/3do/Plane/Delfin file and upgraded the wheels - to tide me over until the Ruedas mod is updated to include this plane. I have no idea if historically correct but they look good. If suggesting this interim mod offends mod protocols I do apologize.

Not many do 'offended' here on the grown-up site.  Instead I would say 'good catch' and thank you for the tip!

Sorry to be late to the party , but according to wiki , the FF1 should be able to carry 2 x 100 lb bombs.

Can't go on QMB now. When I try to it freezes and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Delete the game. Tried deleting the Air.ini and its folder in #SAS. 4.12.2 ModAct 5.30

Not being able to enter QBM is a regular occurrence.  Delete:          .last.quick                   ..ONLY.

What happens is that by removing a plane's entry in air.ini , an non-existant plane is then expected in QBM.
You must unselect any actual plane from QBM before you try delete it from air.ini.

This effect may also happen using a game version selector, for same reason of non-existant plane being now expected.

Hi Guys ,

I know this aircraft hasn't seen any public love for a long time.

The current real life stasis has me digging out my old favourites.

I got a template to make a few skins for the FF1/Delfin , and I have noticed a few things.

1) Has anyone got an upgraded mechanical layer for the template ?
I am hoping for a decent interior cabin and instrument panel in particular
    ( from external view )
Even better would be an exterior view 3d upgrade of the cabin area
with wire and hose runs etc.
2) Did the 2 x 100lb GP Bombs ever get added to the FF1 Loadout ?
3) Anyone add a Rear Gunner human position ?

I'm not making a request , just inquiring as to whether any of these things have been done that
I can upgrade with.

And can you fix the hooks so that the Dolphin does not wear on the strip during take-off?
Also in later patches during take-off at a speed of about 100 km. at an o'clock Dolphin sharply heels to the left.
This is how the bugs in 3D are manifested - either the hooks are incorrectly located, or the wrong number of clips.
This is my request / question.
Thank!

My game started crashing to desktop after installing this.

So I had to remove everything that was included in your download.

But it still crashes at 70%.

What did you include?  I removed everything, but my Il-2 is still unplayable because of your download.

If you have an explanation for this, let me know now.

I have a fully assembled and workable folder for this mod.
It can work in almost any build of mods from 4.12.2 and up.
