??? A Ju-188.....its not Christmas! .... :D :D :D Oh yes it is, thank you thats magic, yes there are odd bits to sort/change, but as a plane it looks great and goes like the clappers! I recall there's a picture of one with a cannot similar to the me-410, for tank busting in Russia I believe, that would be great..against 'fat cars' (the reference to U.S. bombers in Heinz Knockes'book)

The thing is, is that Bravo has been working on that for the best part of a year and a half. I don't want to put it to waste by stealing his thunder.

Well what you'd do is such a small thing, just adding a line in the class...it isnt stealing his thunder, but helping him :) And by asking you show that you respect what he did :) I guess you should ask Ranwers too, as it is his pit.

Actually, I'm having a horrible time with both these mods (in 4.11). one's missing an .emd according to the log (the 388) and the log won't tell me why the 188 doesn't work. I get memory can't be read errors. I'm just going to backwards install DBW over it and see how that works.

ANDY, it's a great idea if we can use this pit for the other 388.
best way to go about it - fire off a PM to both Ranwers and Bravo, asking them if you may do it.
that way they will both appreciate being asked first, and you'd be surprised, sometimes these guys will be only too happy if someone is prepared to lighten their load.
point Bravo to a link or pic of Ranwers' pit, i'm sure he'll be impressed, and likewise, i'm sure Ranwers will be happy to see his pit being put to good use. :D
and then, of course, the whole community will be happy with a new flyable.

Just added this wonderful bird.
Problem, I'm sure its a mod conflict but I don't even know where to start. Ill probably hit up classchecker later.
Anyway, when starting a quick mission in QMB the plane shows up, but with no engine sound, just rushing air. controls move according to input, but aircraft does not respond. After a few seconds screen goes black, mission over flashes and whole crew is killed.
Same thing happens to AI, loadout has no effect.
Odd, eh?
Eit: DBW 1.7.1 of course.

Ah, Poltava. You beat me to the draw. I downloaded it this morning. I guess I might have to include it in the single mission I mentioned earlier. Looks like it might become flyable if various modders put their heads together. I'm pretty sure it'll happen when they find the time. I'm grateful for both planes.
Just putting the finishing touches to the FAA Pacific campaign. Featuring Palembang, and Sakashima. Player flys a Corsiar MkIV. It's part six of a seven part saga. Part seven will be FAA Korea. As yet, it's vapourware.

I have DBW 1.71 too, working like a charme here.
A few planes, no fx, no landing gear or other luxury.
Seems like a Conflict.

Just a little suggestion for a further update (if it 'll ever came) : atm it have only the LT350 but since it was also used extensively on the far north in antishipping role so maybe adding a couple of torpedoes can be useful....

This is a wonderful piece of work. I have had a major conflict however, appearing to load OK but then crashing on pressing"Fly". I have taken out all the recent additions in the form of biplanes from my air.ini and it works fine. So now I'll work my way through reintroducing the additions to see which one is the problem. Thanks for this beautiful aeroplane.

In the end I had to take out the following from my air.ini by a process of trial and error:

So heaven knows where the precise clash is. It wasn't simply a problem of quantity of additions. Anyway, the answer seems to be to have a bunch of alternative air.ini for whichever set of campaigns one happens to be into at the time.

I downloaded, and installed in DBW 7.1. I opened up QMB, pressed Fly, and the 188 appeared just as it should. Then I lowered the landing gear. The left opened, rotated, and stopped when it rested securely on top of the left wing. Then I tried it in a Scramble mission, and the craft turned, immediately, upside down.
My question is, "Did I do something wrong, the downloaded file corrupted, or is it the Beta 188?"

Yes, that was it. I disabled the LG Mod, and that solved the problem.

Im not quite sure.
Honestly this plane as caused me to reinstall DBW from the ground up.
With two identical installs the plane worked ion one, but not the other.
I think it was just exposing some deeply seated errors in the install, so out it went!
Loving the new plane by the way, thanks as always!

Whoops, hehe, erm, apologies; in my defence, parts of the He219 do seem to be partially based upon Ju-88 fuz minus its bomb bay & associated lower half decking - Heinkel did build componant assembalies as well as A/C to designs from other German manufacturers to assist production.
Nice pics there Dietz ('Dietz' from Cross of Iron film jumps into my mind for some reason; got stabbed in the barn by a dark blonde IIRC) they do look good :D complete with tail turret - might it currently be AI controlled; like Me210/410 at the mo or unfunctioning?

I am impressed that you remember the book ( or would it be the movie?) I did do some movie poster work for the film by Sam Peckipah back in the day...
As I remember Dietz meets with a sad end...
BTW -The Ju-388 os currently only AI,which is ok with me the 1888 is really much more attractive!

... I had the very same conflict with my (old 4.09m version) Gear Damage mod, so I just deleted this java class and everything works now (except of course that you lose all JU88 family gear damage effects) ...

Dear Ranwers. I like others have been anticipating your Ju188 for some time and am delighted that It's arrived. Many thanks indeed.
I have standard 4.11.1 and a parallel install with HSFX6.0.1. But the instructions refer to a file air.ini in a file structure not in either of these installs.
Could you please, or someone with more time, kindly post up an explanation of how I can get this, and other extra birds, flying? I have not added any planes, or standalone mods before.

Sorry lizard but this mod it's not for 4.11 (look at the icon on the first post) so it not work in HSFX6, many had some luck with autoDifFM but I'm not using HSFX6 so I don't know

I too am having this problem. "Ju188A-2v1.1.7z could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.

Question to the HSFX users: How did you get the Ju-188 to work?
I get a 30% CTD as I try this bird in QMB.
I play without Expert Mode because its useless when you play with a MODS folder inside HSFX.

Well, I'm on HSFX expert and it works just fine, and I have a bunch of mods, so can't help unless you are on expert mode. Drakens download works PERFECT on expert mode with mods.

Drakens download works PERFECT on expert mode with mods.
Tried this today but not sure of that : did you tried to load Ju88As after activation of this pack : for me, crash to desktop in QMB with "memory can't be read" error if I try to pilot a Ju88A, and this plane simply disappear if I put it as AI ... and it runs right with Ju88C... :-\
...and the plane seems to be hard to take off and too slow in flight it seems ?
EDIT : After more trials, it seems that only the Ju188 creats problem in the Ju88A (no error if only Ju388 is activated).

I need to ask a loadout update after recent readings about this great plane!
In the latter part of the war Germany was operate bombers only at night (same kind of environment also for torpedo bomber operation , so if someone that read this post can think rightly that the same loadout update is needed also for the Ju88A4) due increased AAA & NF treats from guns and night fighters.
So they developed an updated tactic of target marking by the development of specialized pathfinders planes (mainly the KG.6 JU-188) which operate in three initial action:
1) about 5 minute before extimate time above target a single target finder plane start to release paraflares to illuminate the target area;
2) at target attack time a target marker release incediary bombs to start marking fires on the ground;
3) after a lag of about 5 to 15 minutes in which the fires start to develop a second target finder plane release again paraflares to help illuminate the target (and maybe blind AAA crews) for the striking force.
So , to have a correct simulation of this coordinated bombing action I believe that some paraflare should be included.
Above I have wrote also about the Ju88 A4 because the torpedo plane also use such system of paraflare to shilouette ships for torpedo bombers!
So adding paraflare also for the A4 can be useful for night antishipping action in which A4 torp or A17 (and if the above request 'll be accomplished for 188 too) 'll shoot at ships from the dark side of the horizont after a succesful paraflare release (or must to abort the action if the paraflare planes 'll be downed by AAA or NF)

the plane doesn't appear in the 3d preview box, nor in mission.
will investigate more, as i'm sure it was working when i initially tested in 4.12.1....

Edit: Unable to download the plane now. I'm getting the message the archive is corrupted. Strange. The link worked fine last night.
Edit 2: No problem. Just copied and pasted the mod file into DBW from one of my 4.12 games. Bomb sight doesn't work, but maybe someday there will be a patch to fix that.

got it working in 4.12 easily enough -
as it was looking for the tga's i mentioned, i went and found them - stukas.tga and propellor.tga, found them in some old plane Textures folder from another install - then created a new Textures folder inside the Ju188/3do/plane folder, placed the two tga's in there, and voila! - fully working in 4.12.1 (also without bombardier, though) :D

Superb work, but unfortunately i can only judge by the 3D in the loadout screen.
I also get a 30% crash when loading a mission with the new 5.3 Modact for 4.12.2, already tried Malone's files.

Among the future updates , since this kind of plane was historically used from KG.66 , the Luftwaffe pathfinder unit , can I pray , please , please , please to also add some specific pathfinding and target markings loadouts?
The most used are:
Flares to illuminate target;
Coloured Flares to mark target;
Incendiary bombs to start fire used as bombing reference;
Maybe also some of the british TI can be used even if a little unhistorical....

Today we cannot get any error-log file in HSFX7.
It's impossible to research compatibility problem where/what in HSFX7.
I tried again to put the Ju-188 + your patch . In fact, it works in HSFX 7.01 ( but has conflict with flyable He-177 )

Nice plane got it working in 4.12 easily enough with modact 5.3 patch it too.
Finding not enough power on taking off so won't leave the ground.
If do manage to get in the air seems to end up crashing into the ground as full power not keeping it in the air.

Don't know what the JU 188 behaviour was, but surely in the simulation flying the JU-188 (a very, very welcome addition, tnx )it is like trying to fly a brick. Hope for the poor Luftwaffe pilots that the JU 188 in the real life, had some more power to spare. Maybe in the near future some little trimming on FM....for this excellent MOD....

It look like I am missing bombardian position for Ju 188 A-2. I am learning everyday on how to solve issues and this is what I am struggling with. I tried both v4.10 and v4.09 version with v4.12.2m patched applied. None of these worked and I'll try v4.09 version without patch applied to it.

It look like I am missing bombardian position for Ju 188 A-2. I am learning everyday on how to solve issues and this is what I am struggling with. I tried both v4.10 and v4.09 version with v4.12.2m patched applied. None of these worked and I'll try v4.09 version without patch applied to it.
You are not missing the class itself. The Bombardier Cockpit is there, but it seems that is a different version of the one you required.

I don't know EXACTLY what happened but today I decided to re-install Ju 188 A-2 with v4.10 version and v4.12.2m fix applied to it. It ACTUALLY work and doesn't crash anymore! Now I am able to use bombardian position with bomb sight working in Ju 188A-2 in my IL-2 1946 SAS Modact 5.3 + v4.12.2m patch! I want to thank to everyone very much for trying to help me through my mod installing issues!

I find it powerful in 4.12.2.
There is a new FM for 4.12.2 included in western0221 patch .
I did only BombBayDoor on FM, nothing engines.
Ok !
I noticed also that the 4.12.2 version overheats fast . The engines overheats even when the plane is still on the runway taking off.
Could anybody fix this please ?

Had a quick look at this on the train this morning.
I found some issues that, although not fatal, may cause problems.
1) The wings have malformed collision boxes (missing CoCommon section)
2) The normals on the bomb bay doors face the wrong way
3) All the textures have an Ambient setting of 1.0, so no lighting.
As I say not fatal problems, but you may want to have a look at them.

I don´t know if Ranwers had made any new upgrades for this Ju-188, but I can show you another nice upgrade
for it.
If you are using this mod.... New Wheels by PA-Jeronimo (which you should) https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,34533.0.html
In the mod folder with the airplane names, create a new folder named "JU188beta"
...then go and copy everything that is inside the folder named "Ju-88A-4", and paste it into the new JU188beta folder.
You should now have all nice and round looking wheels for this bomber ;) It looks much better than before.
Look at all the posts in that download thread to see any new updates you may have missed. Alot of good stuff is posted there.
BTW, do not frown too much at the skin which this Ju-188 uses, because it does need a new skin-template+skins to fit this aircraft version
a little better. In the future , there will be one. You can use the Ju-88 skins in the meantime.

Thanks for the info on Jeronimo and his wheels. I've tried reloading the Ju-188 by Ranwers in case it was updated, but it still has the Ju-88 cockpit from the gunner position.

You may test it and see if it runs ok.
Put the mod-wheels files into it and let it overwrite the existing mod-aircraft files.
DO NOT FORGET that it uses some skins files which are inside the "Textures" folder inside PA_Jeronimos mod-wheels folder!
So you will NEED these skin files inside a Textures folder also.
I have done this before with some others with success, but I personally like to keep the mod-wheels by PA_Jeronimo inside
their own mod-wheels folder from that download.
BUT, take notice,
if anything goes wrong, you will have to re-install the mod-aircraft again to its original format. - So make a duplicate folder
of the mod-aircraft (all its original files) and place a "-" minus-sign in front of the named folder. This way the game will not READ this particular folder ;)
Since this airplane was and is still, in development, it may in the future have a new upgrade and things may change all over again.
That is why I usually keep the mod-wheels stuff inside the PA_Jeronimos better wheels mod package .
Everything around here is always in a constant mood of upgrading, which is great. Everyone is always contributing to making
a particular favorite mod-aircraft look and fly better than before. So I congratulate all the modders and artists for continuing
making this IL2-1946 the best ever !

I have Modact 5.3 on 12.2M, and it's listed features includes PA_Jeronimo 3D wheel, prop, cowling fixes, so I think I had what I downloaded and installed. I'm just learning a bit more every day.

I have this same aircraft in my game, and looking at the PA_Jeronimos folder for his new wheels, it did not contain a "JU188beta" folder for this one.
BUT
since you now have it installed into your game, go check out all the aircraft you have. Now they all look much better than before ;)
That is what modding this game is all about, improving on previous aircraft versions with some nice goodies. You will soon
get the hand of it and start modding everything in your personal game.

I use to play IL2 and PF all the time many years ago. I am a JU188 fan and repurchased the game when I saw this model. Of course the model led me to the SAS site but just a few days ago. Since then I have spent hours and hours of time trying to become more familiar with all of the mods and options here and it is mind numbing! haha. I have a general grasp on the key points I feel, but can't say for sure. All I know is I was able to take my 2 CDs and end up with a no CD needed version of what my screen says is "UP 3.0 RC4 (Based on 4.10.1m patch)". I have also made a separate install of the same but with DBW on top. I am keeping the two as while the DBW option in the selector works, the UP 3 option has a CTD at 60% now. Fortunately I had a backup and am just as happy having two installs depending on what I want. Just a little of my history before asking my question. lol
Let's just refer to my UP install. I was able to get the JU188 installed and flyable! My main question is similar to what I have seen some people ask previously in this thread but don't recall seeing anything firm on this. The pilot position/cockpit view is wonderful, but when I switch positions, it seems to give a combo of JU188 and JU88 (in bomber position), or straight up JU88 (from what I can tell). I was just wondering if those positions have been modeled yet, and if so, how do I get them into my UP 3.0 RC4 (4.10.1m)? Still seems odd the bomber position would be a combo of images... but again, shiny new to all this. :P
Please be gentle as I am just days new to all of this and have tried to do my homework.

Your double-show views are NORMAL. Here is why:
...quite often cockpits dedicated to an aircraft are few.
So, to rush into a FLYABLE version of a mod, the closest PIT available to the desirable cockpit is sometime used, kind of "in a franken way".
The pit fits into a PLANE-NOT-TO-BE-SEEN bubble, with the external plane being seen from the pit-pos at some distance, outside the empty air bubble.
Either the pit is small inside a big bubble: then external parts of the plane must be created/introduced to fill the gaps... ( inserts ).
( Here the main pit seems dedicated, with engines seen being cockpit parts; however the other positions-pits are imports from Ju-88 ).
...or the pit is large in a small bubble with no need to insert external parts, BUT...
.. as a result BOTH real external cockpit frames as well as the INTERNAL frames provided by the cockpit are seen at the same time.
To sum it up: plane is a mod, cockpit is a mod; both must be merged and matched into a perfect internal view of the outside world.
I hope that's make sense to you.
Sometime having a flyable is better then lacking the non existing perfectly exact suitable cockpit. ( i.e. AI only ).
PS: .. I remember having few problems to run UP3 after running DBW, and recall that a key important file must be pulled in or out USING the JSGME...
...been a long time since I used these so check it out in the JSGME options. [ ...edit; i.e.: #UP#_Enable_UP3.0 ]
