Title: SB-2M103 & SB-2M100A "Talvisota" - update 2 28-5-2014 Ready to DL [4.09] [4.10] [4.12]

After the Blenheim, I had to gave some attention to the SB-2, one of the most neglected plane in this sim - beyond the old AAA cockpit and Archies' S-71 version. So here's a Talvisota Version of the SB2M103 and the SB2M100A, with historical skis (retractable on the 103, fixed on the 100A) appearing when your are on a winter map, and a wide array of armament, only part of what these planes could carry. I used them as a test bed for the new Finnish bombs and the new Russian bombs - Most of these new Russian bombs are creation of Lindr who very kindly authorized me to import them to Il2 (not a litlle work  :( every 3d model needed smoothing, Lods, shadow, export and java, but tehy are worth it  :) ) - I have imported presently only the pre-1939 bombs.
You''ll find 2 special loads: the RRAB-3 cluster - the "Molotov's Bread basket" iconic of Talvisota (was also be taken under the wings of the R-5 in the Winter War)  here with a  load of AO-8m3 bomblets and the ABK-1 (the Russian "Spezzoniera", less sophisticated, but a great step forward from the previously used "Onisko" bucket).
The RRAB-3 was a simple "basket" liberating its content when its lid opens - spreading depending upon altitude of drop and quantity of bomblets inside -  between 220 to 850 square meters if dropped under 3000m, between 480 to 1100 square meters if dropped between 3000m and 5000m.  I uplaoded presently only one configuration among the ten possible, the others will follow soon. The RRAB-3 was alomst the only load to be carried on external pylons on the SB-2M100A (external pylons were used more extensively on the M103 engined version, much more potent)
The ABK-1 was a tube container taking the place of a regular 50kg bomb in teh bomb bay, with a  bottom lid that opened to empty its content (7 configurations were possible, I uploaded presently 3 of them the 30 ZAB-2,5, the 30 AO-2,5 and the 3 AO-25)
I've also included arrays of Swedish and Russian made Depth Charge specifically used by these planes on anti-submarine missions - a specialty where Finnish operated SB-2 bombers excelled.
One last detail - Heavy loads are dropped one at a time for increased realism.

Lebig's Fix for the ski gear struts that keep appearing on the M103 when the wheels are "on", in the Folders SB-2M_103(Russian) and SB-2M-103(Multi) open the file hierS.him in a text editor and replace the [GearLN_D0] and [GearRN_D0] sections like by these ones (it adds just a line with the word "Hidden" to them):

you'll need to install also the new Reworked AviaB-71 (as the new fix calls for some new java files there)

(there is still an unwanted second gun barrel in the inner view of the front turret I need to take out).

To activate the rear gunner cockpit - you need first to open the cockpit then only when the cockpit is open you can press the autopilot touch and activate the gun (the upper rear gun is not functional so long the rear canopy is not open)

you have better also install the SB_NoseCocpite_fix_ver1  from here (I think this last fix originally comes from Aviaskins but I'm not sure):

Skis are fully functional if you choose a winter map (they retract on the 103, are fixed on the 100A). Same air ini as for the 410 version and of course the same need for the bomb packs (Russian and Finnish)
I included the new cockpits of the SB in these mods - the only problem is that the SB2103 has a turret instead of a sliding canopy gun position - and the current 103 turret is rather unconvincing  - I will build and upload soon a new turret and corresponding java fix for this version.


This mod is for 4.10 (and now for 4.12 also) and has been tested on SAS modact and DBW 1.7

Yes, Lindr sent me the original models he used for the SF2 bomb pack and I reworked them to make them importable to Il2. He has systematically reproduced all the bombs from teh period 1936-1945, described in the Russian aviation bombs anthology by Pyr'ev & Reznichenko. (BTW he has, since then, also made packs for the post ww2 period.) There are still an extensive number of bombs from this pack to be imported and if you get a look at teh archive, i have implemented till now a very small range of all the bombs I imported. But they will be used with time on coming mods, trust me  :)
And yes, this is the RRB-3 in its 3-compartments configuration. There were 10 basic configurations (with a further 11 possible sub-combinations) , depending of the nature and size of the bomblets used:

I did not touch the main SB class but just added 2 classes SB_2M103S and SB_2M100AS (the original classes, still remaining intact are named SB_2M103 and SB_2M100A and the mother class SB). As a matter of fact, as I wrote earlier, at some point each of these 4 classes will need to get its own fm as they have quite different flying cahracteristics. I intend to do that when I'll deal with the SCW version of the SB (on the basis of the SB-71 version of Archie) - there is also a need to improve the animations of thsi plane (canopies and such)

Dear Dreamk,

I am sorry for being harsh about the Blenheim cockpits. None of the cockpits are accurate and each have their pitfalls. Even the IL2 Cliffs of Dover Blenheim IV cockpit have a MkI instrument panel as opposed to the restored Duxford Blenheim IV. But I find the MkIF cockpit by Ranwer is a bit large and roomy with lot of elbow space. Don't know it that is correct.

I want to know if the Finnish bomb pack as provided with the Blenheim Sarja I is the same as provided with the SB-2M103 & SB-2M100A ? How to keep both of them if they are different . I want to keep both of them as I want to have I Blenheim Sarja I and the SB-2M103 , 2M100A pack to my DBW1.7

Please reply...

1. Bomb packs are permanently updated, adding new ordnance, and modifying if needed present ordnance in accordance with more accurately historical versions - install the last one uploaded over the previous one you
2. None of the current Blenheim cockpits is correct - we all know that for long, and that it's what we have, and coming back over and over to weep upon that, does not improve the matter for nothing  - this is modding community, every one is invited to take part in mods creation. If it really hurts you not to have a real historical Blenheim cockpit, you have 3 solutions:
- don't fly the Bleinheims, any of them 
- wait for someone to make a new cockpit
- begin making a new cockpit yourself - it's to my mind the best option, and it's like that that I began creating mods, because I did not like to fly a ww2 F4U in a Korean war scenario.

Definitively roomy and not cramped.

Pics taken with wide angle objectives can give a false impression about space dimensions - but some features imply "room space" - dual controls side by side for instance

Are the skies retractable in SB 2M-100A and SB 2M-103 ? In my case the skies are not. They only becomes horizontal in "gear down" position otherwise they are inclined at an angle backwards. Also in my case the folder is SB-2M-103(Multi1)

Did you read first post ? skis are not retractable on the 100A. Everything is normal on your install.

I today had time to complete the LOD fix and attached it here. Just unpack so that it overwrites files of this mod and you shouldn't see disappearing SB wings anymore. I also included the gear part visibility fix by Lebig so that everyone can get it easily.

Hi.
I am using 412.2+530+AI. Otherwise works fine, but the front machine guns bend strangely backwards.
as you can see in the picture. Can this be fixed?
It happens in  both planes: Sb100 and Sb103. In DBW 1.7 both planes look normal.

The front gunner external bug is now gone.

But another problem apperared now : they are both unflyable in my 5.3 Modact game...

Is there something missing, maybe ?

I have 4122 with Modact 5.3 - and they fly fine - but I have also installed the SB_NoseCocpite_fix_ver1 
in my mods folder so this may be what you lack.

I added the fixes and tried to be precise but:
this is how it looks in my log trying to fly Sb-2 103skis.
The plane is flying ok, but no cockpit. Same thing with Sb-2 100skis.
The original planes: 100 works normal, the 103 doesnot appear at all.

AAAAH! I know what happens! I did not upload the last part of the mod - the reworked Avia B71 as I am still trying to improve the inner look of front turret (there is an unwanted second gun barrel I need to take out).

To activate the rear gunner cockpit - you need first to open the cockpit then only when the cockpit is open you can press the autopilot touch and activate the gun (the upper rear gun is not functional so long the rear canopy is not open)

I installed the SB-TGunner file from Avia B71 mod to Cockpit and now I can fly both of them.
The rear gunner cannot shoot downwards but never mind, they look just great, in and

This is something easy to modify, but the question is whether the upper rear gunner on these planes could shot downwards on the sides of the plane or whether the turret was only covering upper quadrants. Some one knows the answer?

What I mean is that for intance in Epervier`s update for SB-2M-100A by DT(4.12)
the rear gunner has two positions to shoot: upper via open turret and lower through the hatch at the floor.
The main thing is the working rear gunners turret.Thanks again.

Here I don't understand - on my install (4.122 + Modact 5.30 + SAS_Flyable_Aircraft enabled) the lower rear gunner position works perfectly for all these SB2 variants.

Could you try to fly one of them, get into the rear down gunner cockpit activate autopilot and try to move and fire the gun, then post the log.lst so I can understand what is the problem?

I flew SB-2 100skis and tried to go to gunners position.the turret position is working ok, but when I try go to the
floor hatch it goes back to the cockpit.This is a part of the log, because it exceeds 50000 letters.

I don't know -  I don't succeed to reproduce this problem on my computer - the log wxcerpt is not really helpful - my advice is to download once again reinstall the last versions all the 3 mods:
1) Avia B-71
2) SB_2M_flyableSkis
3) SB_NoseCocpite_fix_ver1
Do you have other sb-2 "clones" installed in your mods folder?

I just reinstalled the 3 mods carefully and now the  sb:s with skis fly fine.
No promlems with Avia B-71 or Sm100A, only two things are lacking now:
The original 103 does not show up except in hostiles and you cannot use
the rear turret in 103skis because one cannot open the cockpit of plane.

for the rear turret, the issue has already been addressed - it's just a question of time:
