Title: He-280 [4.10] [4.12]
Post by: mac1 on September 26, 2012, 04:58:11 PM
Finally polished up the old gal a bit and made some cosmetic improvements. It was my first ever mod, so its age and inexperience shows but with precious little time due to real life, its as good as shes gonna get at the minute. Enjoy!

skin shown above was by Donaghy but all the link are dead so if anyone has his three skins please post them back up!

To get rid of the misplaced mesh you  need to go into the
3do/cockpit/He-280 folder and open the heir him file.

Near the bottom of the file you will see this entry:

Mesh Armorglass
Parent Z_Gear
Attaching

You need to change it to this:

Mac,
not a criticism, but the stabilizer seems to be misplaced. It is like set too backwards. I can figure out that if not probable the elevator will overlap when moving.

I didn't know much about the history of this plane, only that it was one of thr firsts. I saw this video:

Two engined jet fighters/heavy fighters are my fav, and this one isn't an exception!

Thanks for giving us such a great airplane :D

Here's inof on it. Interesting is that it could have been armed with rockets for anti-ship duty which could have brought the plane out quicker.

One benefit of the He 280 which impressed the political leadership was the fact that the jet engines could burn kerosene, which requires much less expense and refining than the high-octane fuel used by piston-engine aircraft. The He 280 might have been more easily "sold" if Heinkel stressed the possibility of using it as an attack aircraft for anti-shipping. While the R4M rockets were not available until 1944, the Germans did develop the Nebelwerfer in 1941, which was a 150 mm (5.9 in) artillery rocket launcher. These tubes could have been mounted underneath the wings of a jet. German pilots complained that bombs dropped by the Me 262 had little chance of hitting their targets. A forward-firing recoilless weapon would have been much more effective.

Yes, mac1. I know exactly how that feels. I'm playing Flyboys, and a 110 campaign set on the Eastern front. I'm also  planning on re-releasing a couple of old 410 campaigns in DBW 410. That will free some storage space on Mediafire. Then, there's various other campaigns to do. The recent release of the Meteor has given me some ideas for a campaign that is about 1/3 complete. It'll start with the player learning to fly the Bulldog, Hind,  and PWS 24 [Avro tutor] in Cal Zimbotho, go to the East Africa campaign with Fairey battles. Then to Italy flying Hurricane IVs. Next England flying Meteors, and Finallly Korea in Meteors. As for a completion date. Let's say Christmas. I'm not sure which one though.

cheers

Hi

Nice plane, I like it. Works fine in DBW 1.7 and almost in 4.12.2m+5.30+A1 because the landing gear stucks out the top of the wings and there is no front wheel either. I tried to insert an image for many times but it failed( maybe I am stupid and cant use the program)
Any thoughts what is wrong?

I've just tried it in my mod tool.

The mesh looks awesome, but when I load the script the gear is incorrect.

Maybe I have the old version, not sure. But you can see what I mean here.

The front wheel seems to be displaced as well as the front wheel bay doors

been flying this a bit on Modact 5.3, and enjoying it. :D
no issue with the gears, as such, except that i experience the following in cockpit once gears are raised.

first pic, before gears are up:

second pic, after gears are up:

not sure if there's maybe some him adjustment needed there - anyone else experienced this?
another question concerns the overheating - i can barely get airborne without cooking the engines, with any other than default loadout.
in fact, you can see in the screenshots HUD that the overheat is happening well below 200km/h on takeoff, in above pics i'm also barely halfway down the runway, she is very slow to gain momentum...
is there an updated FM planned for that, or is it a historically represented?
if the latter, then i have no problem.

fun in the snow ... :D

Hey Malone! Love the snowy skin. Never really tested the FM in 4.12, it was originally adapted from the me-262 in 4.09 way way back if I remember correctly but I'm no FM guy. Thought I'd fixed that dam cockpit bug too! :D

Title: Re: He-280
Post by: SAS~Malone on May 24, 2014, 09:17:44 AM
yes, she overheats while still picking up takeoff speed, most noticeably with any other than default loadout.
i like the way the overheating works once in flight - you can push up to about 80% throttle without overheating. it's getting airborne that's the problem.
i think just another 30 seconds or so before it starts cooking, should suffice ;)
Title: Re: He-280

I'll take a look.
Title: Re: He-280
Post by: SAS~Malone on May 24, 2014, 09:55:49 AM
i think a lot has to do with how long she takes to pick up momentum....
try, and you'll see, she just really isn't keen to start moving forward.
if i had any suggestions for the 3d, it's to slightly raise the gear so that the droptank loadout doesn't sit halfway under the ground :D

To get rid of the misplaced mesh you  need to go into the

Near the bottom of the file you will see this entry:

Not really sure as to how many out there ever fly this wonderful bird, just kind of wondering if some skilled individual could finish this ol' girl up. She really needs a completed cockpit for the external view and proper sized main landing gear.....P.S. If you haven't flown her, you just might give her a try...LOT'S OF FUN!!...P.S.S....she also has a kind or interesting history...(lots of politics involved).

Great to hear you want to make this skin, Max. Excellent.

Personally I like fictional backgrounds for scenarios or campaigns. With heavier armament and more power this would have been an interesting German answer to the Allied bomber offensive of 1943-44. Wouldn't have changed much, I know, but would be fun to fly with.

So yes, please better cockpit, better landing gear, better armament and more power. That would be grand.

How about this for a He 280 skin? Really good.

Are there any plans to give this bird heavier armament of perhaps even for a He-280A or B version?

That is a nice paint-scheme. I will do one for our game .

Yes, I have already begun doing a nice skin-template for some skins for this classic jet.
It is now looking very nice.
What we really need now is some better wheels on this airplane.
Everything else looks great now on this new 3D-model.

Any progress yet, Max?

I'm thinking about making a what-if campaign for this plane. What if it had been ready to counter the Allied bomber offensive of 1943-1944? But I would need heavier armament then, because the present armament is not sufficient against heavy bombers. And more power to really make a difference. Is anybody willling to adjust that? Or can it even be done?
