maps are fairly easy, and install the same way into any Modded version of IL-2
and you can usually just follow the file and folder structure of the downloaded map
For SAS Modact >
The #SAS folder is the Mods folder
#SAS/MapMods/maps
maps go into the maps folder
inside the maps folder there is a _Tex folder, install the maps textures into the _Tex folder
#SAS/MapMods/maps/_Tex
inside the maps folder there is a .ini file named all.ini
if it is a new map then that new maps name must be entered into the all.ini for the map to show in the drop down list to select it in FMB
Open the all.ini with notepad or other text editor
at the top of the list you will see[all]
example>
[all]
Slovakia_summer Slovakia/load.ini
Slovakia_winter Slovakia/load_winter.ini
etc. etc.
place new map name just under [all] or wherver else you would like the name in the list
first name is the maps name as you see it in FMB list
second name is the actual maps folders name so the game can find the correct folder
after the / is the correct load.ini the game reads and loads
notice above the Slovakia map has two load.ini's one for summer and one for a winter map
It also has two entry's with the first name different for each map
one for Slovakia_Summer and one for Slovakia_Winter
yet both have the same second name(both summer and winter maps are in the same map folder)
and both have there own load.ini to load for which ever seasonal version you choose to load
example to add the Bengalli map name to the all.ini>
[all]
Bengali Bengali/load.ini
Slovakia_summer Slovakia/load.ini
Slovakia_winter Slovakia/load_winter.ini
Hope this helps
Cheers

thank you for your timely responce, sorry about thread placement. this alot more than I knew after hours of searching through threads, again thank you.
-
Your welcome Yubba, glad it helped ;)
-
Yes sir reee, I'm in uncharted territories, with the swordfish campaign,, and the b24 camel pond campaign,,all running nicely
-
Good question, yubba!
Good answer, UP~Boomer ! :)
-
If a map has a 3DO folder does that go in the #SAS folder or does it get combined with the 3DO folder in the root directory?
-
If a 3do folder comes with a map,it's most likely objects or object reskins or something
the 3do folder needs only one folder depth so placing in your MapMods folder would suffice
and yes,it would go into the #SAS folder not the root IL-2 Directory
IL-2/#SAS/MapMods/3do ;)
-
Thank you that helps a lot. :)
-
That's helped me out as well. Thanks for the great info.
Cheers

Your welcome Yubba, glad it helped ;)
Hello,
Many thanks for your nice step to step guide, it helped me to have ,finally, a MAP installed in FMB, but....is there any way to have that same maps in QMB ? I was unable to find any suggestion about it.
Many thanks for your help
-
To add a map to QMB you actually need QMB Missions to be made on that map
as it is really QMB missions in the QMB you play ,not being added to the QMB ;)
You need to download QMB missions already made,or learn to create QMB missions
Adding your favorite map to the QMB>

hope this helps :)

Hello,
Thank you for your suggestion it is what I was looking for!

Your welcome,best of luck

Hi,
For some reason I can not save when I use created maps. How do I fix it?
-
Hello..
Which Modpack, which game version 4.10/4.12.2 etc..?
You obviously miss objects...please read:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,42857.0.html
Post a logfile for the map you cannot save with or hit shift and backspace when the map is loaded. Take a screen and post that..load up the screenshot at photobucket or postimage...
Then come back. ;) :D
-
Read here about how to resolve missing objects problems https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,50563.msg551970.html#msg551970

inside the maps folder there is a _Tex folder, install the maps textures into the _Tex folder
#SAS/MapMods/maps/_Tex
so i just copy all the files into the Tex file or do i copy the folder whit the files into it?
-
This is going to sound silly because i should know this. Im using HSFX 7.2 il-2 412 and over the years of upgrades, MODs, reinstalls and god knows what!! Ive lost my MODs Map folder...Question is, How do you create a new map mods folder? being old fashioned im still using the install everything by hand mode ( Those who have had this game since it came in a cardboard box...will understand! ) rather than the auto-installer.....Any advice would be most welcome...Gary

Hi guys! Very usefully tutorial :) Thank you.

Very useful, thank you : - ) !!

Thank you SAS_Boomer for the useful tutorial. :)
However, I have an issue, my vanilla version of 4.13.4 does "NOT" have a MODS folder. Both of my HSFX and VPMod versions do. So what would be the process to load a map into the 4.13.4 version? Any help here is much appreciated. Thanks much in advance. :)

About any versions of IL-2 1946, some type of Mod Activator makes the game mod-able.
HSFX / VPModpack contain a Mod Activator inside.
4.13.4m's SAS Mod Activator is published here; named as SAS ModAct 6.4 .
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,55051.0.html
After finishing to install this ModAct 6.4 , you'll have #SAS folder as same as Boomer wrote.

Hi, I'd like to ask you how to name a map folder in QMB? For example: I want to make folder for Ardennes summer map by Cyberloas. I've made a folder in QuickQMBPro with name "Ardennes_Summer(RRR)" (I found the name in all.ini), but when I open the QMB I can see nothing. Do you have any idea, what should by wrong in my procedure?
-
Do you have Quick Missions for the map? The folder must contain .mis files in the proper format for the Quick Missions for the map to work.
If you do have Quick Missions already, then make sure that their filenames are compatible with the map. For example, my Eastfront_Polad_1939 Quick mission folder has files like
EastFront_Poland_1939RedArmor00.mis
EastFront_Poland_1939BlueAirbase00.mis
...etc
In case you do not have Quick Missions already, I see that BAT has Quick Missions for the standard Ardennes map. Some or all of these will probably work with Cyberolas' map if you rename them and put them into your folder. You would have to experiment.
EastFront_Poland_1939BlueAirbase00.mis
-
I've made a folder "Ardennes_Summer(RRR)" and put in the "Ardennes_Summer(RRR)BlueAirbase00.mis" mission. The question is whether the name is correct. Is there any rules how to name a folder/mission (except the same front part)?
-
Hi slejsa
I've provided a link to a guide which explains how to add maps to the QMB.
https://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=4014
-
Slejsa, your filename looks correct. When you try this does the map or mission not appear at all or do you get the 'Data File Corrupt' message?
I wonder if the parentheses in the filename are the issue. BAT uses the Cyberolas map for the Ardennes QMB, and it is configured like this:
All.ini entry is: Ardennes_Summer(RRR) Ardennes/sload.ini
Folder: BAT_Ardennes_S
Files:
(https://i.postimg.cc/j5RD5N5C/Screen-Hunter-1008.png) (https://postimages.org/)
-
Slejsa a few of the BAT Sets use such upgraded Maps, their QMBPRo Folder names not
on parr with the RRR whatever.
At any case take the all.ini and check each Mission
-
Hi, at the first, thank you for your advices and useful link. I've tried to take out the suffix (RRR), but it is the same - nothing appears. One more strange things si the same result when I put in my mission to the BAT folder (BAT_Ardennes_S) with rewrite name naturally.
-
You seem to struggle a flick in thinking.
I will roll it out for you.
1.all.ini gives the definite Map location, load.ini reference
Mission file needs to allocate the proper load.ini, referenced in all.ini.
2. in order to get a Set to view in QMBProPAL Folder/GUI name and Mission name must handle the same
specifics, avoid sth. like (RRR), use RRR, special Glyphs may not be shown by the system gui Font.
I recommend being very carefull at renaming files manually.
3. QMBProPAL Missions must bow under default/rules, guidelines posted in the Mission4Today Link.
If you added special Glyphs to your naming, busted, if you twisted
Flight counts, busted.
Obey default measures, guidelines, availlable working Sets tell you how it works.
Do not think in abstract ways, It's simple, logic. That's QMB.
I just checked the two remaining Ardennes Maps missing in QMBProPAL Folder.
Copy, rename
BAT_Ardennes_GW
[MAIN]
MAP Ardennes/GW_winload.ini
BAT_Ardennes_TAB
[MAIN]
MAP Ardennes/tab_wload.ini
Taken from
all.ini
located in
...\#WAW3\MAPMODS\Maps
**___WESTERN_EUROPE___** Netmountains/load.ini
Ardennes_Summer(RRR) Ardennes/sload.ini (BAT_Ardennes_S)
Ardennes_Winter(RRR) Ardennes/wload.ini (BAT_Ardennes_W)
Ardennes_Winter(TAB) Ardennes/tab_wload.ini
Ardennes_Winter(GW) Ardennes/GW_winload.ini
Default Ardennes (RRR) Mapsets are these here
BAT_Ardennes_S
BAT_Ardennes_W
I can fly and wizz around in all four Ardennes Maps, this an example of compatible cases.
This is very rare, you may find such method (copy/paste) may not work at other duplicate Maps,
due to complete redesign of the Maps. Spare us calls it doesn't work somewhere else.
In such case, build them from scratch yourself.
You just need to understand our 2 existing Ardennes Maps Sets are already rolling on Cyberolas RRR Maps,
the missing GW and TAB can be converted easilly.
Take it for granted checking the all.ini content, you will find BAT marked QMB Pro sets already use Cyberolas or other Map Upgrades conveniently.
For that open a Mission file in Texteditor and check the first entry line what it says.
Customization.
New Sets, new Missions
New Sets I would give a naming other than BAT, that's what I do. To keep the Default BAT untouched.
Not obeying to this rule is a messy modding I do not preferr, but everybody can do what he wants.
In Tech helps such over taken Files can cause problems, when compared to
Default Files, if you changed it accidently and can't roll back as you messed it up,
it's your fault only. It's not a crime, but we see it often tinkered Files pop up and a claim added to that,
it's buggy, not me. We keep forgetting things in the course of hefty modding.
Hope this Helps, if you still have troubles, I do not know what your problem is.
Maybe be a bit more precise at describing, what you want, what you did,
as detailed as possible.
One sentence is too short, if lacking valueable, retraceable actions.
-
I'm sorry for the delay in replying. Thank you once more for your comprehnesive answer. Unfortunatelly I haven't find the solving of my problem. I'm gonna try to explain it better.
I would like to create a new folder with my own missions in IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\Missions\QuickQMBPro. My "mission pack" gonna be based on Ardennes_Summer(RRR) map by Cyberolas. This folder isn't going to be a part of default BAT_Ardennes_S.
I've read in the M4T manual that if I've create a folder with almost any title I should see it in QMB. Nevertheless I've tried a many variants of the folder's title and nothing appears in my QMB. I don't understand what I do wrong? Can you give me a tip for the correct title?
-
Dare to upload that Folder here? So we can take a look what goes wrong?
We can chat forth back with me getting no info for weeks and you struggle to find a solution.
What I can't see, I can't know what can be wrong.
-
I am sure that the problem is with the mission files and not in the name qmb missions are tricky
-
Hi, here are some screens with the folder and bellow you can see the mission file. I hope it will be useful for you :)

Your mission is not a quick mission. It has no aircraft. I would still expect it to show up though and give a Data File Corrupt error. You should put your files in a separate folder to accommodate the _cs in the name; if you want to add QMB missions with the same name/type update the number sequence (i.e., 00 to 01). And if you only have blue mission(s) you need to set the player's side to blue in the QMB.
In short, you need to do some re-reading of the M4T link.

I know it's uncomplete. There are missing aircrafts for now. I assumed that the folder would appear in the QMB at this stage as well. Anyway, I'll fill in and let you know.

I hope it will be useful for you
Really? Heard better jokes.
You said you have a Mission, now it's empty?
Blimey, I'm out.
