Title: New Visual MOD 8 (Game Menu + Stereo 3D + RealFollow + Features) [4.12]
Post by: benitomuso on October 08, 2013, 10:06:32 PM
Updated 2014/05/31 (last update only for v4.12.2):

Download new Visual MOD 8 Pack for v4.12.2
(Game Menu, Extended Control, Stereo 3D, Real Follow, EcranWide & ScreenShots, new Updated and Fixed v4.12.2 code) (https://www.mediafire.com/download/z8zje95gl4xn1qw/00_PAL-VisualMOD8-v4122.rar)
(Updated 2014/05/31)

Since this new improved version, the MOD is for v4.12.2 only!

New features formally released on 2014/05/31:

-Refuel and Rearm. Land your plane, set the chocks and choose the option in the Menu, and it will refuel and rearm your plane as it was when the misión started.
-Three different models of HUD.
-All HUD indications are configurable from the Menu.

Ok People,
                          first I thought about implementing this in the GUIPad (MiniMap), but later, and after some experimentation and comments of some members of SAS, I opted for the full integration into the Visual MOD. So here I present to you the "Game Menu":

(https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/a91b/evnws5qqjmp78u96g.jpg)

It is displayed with a key that currently you have to configure in the Controls settings. In the MISC section (the SAS ModAct 5 already has this implemented) you will find a "Game Menu" option that you have to assign. A suggestion is to use the Home key, typically not mapped in game. The Menu appears and disappears with the same key.

Now instead of the very complicated system of Mouse key combinations I had to implement to control the Stereo 3D features, practically everything (except values of Separation and Convergence) is controlled from easy and rational Menu Options.

(https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/bb52/z4tbf6r9ild49x16g.jpg)

Several nice and easy accesable options now are available in the Menu:

(https://www.mediafire.com/convkey/9682/2do29hwr4xu9byf6g.jpg)

There are several options. Others will be added in the future. But it really allows us to have a more logical, efficient and modern approach to the control of many features of the game.

Regards,
                                   Pablo

Previous Post related to Real Follow, etc:

  The new main feature of this version is something that really was lacking in the Il-2 Sturmovik game and that allows specially for filmmakers, etc., a much lively rendering for many situations. Real Follow:

(http://www10.mediafire.com/convkey/9cc8/i22fc59wxj7ig78fg.jpg)

  The game only had the traditional external view (F2) which moved you to the exterior and that followed the position of the plane but pointing always in a fixed direction. The alternative was the follow (F8) view that in a very strange way (always vertically aligned and without tilt) followed your plane. So now I have implemented a Real Follow mode (it replaces the F2 and F8):

(http://www10.mediafire.com/convkey/9afd/o9j1w2z4i9ylf6afg.jpg)

  I developed a quite inertial behaviour for it which makes it quite real how the camera follows the plane.

  For those who haven't been following the development thread and don't know much about the MOD, etc., please consider that 95% of the answers you need are in a disordered sequence here:

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?msg=209695;topic=19449.0

  The ReadMe.pdf included in the .rar is old but quite exhaustive and explains in a detailed and ordered way all what you may need to operate and configure the MOD. I took the time to write it, so please: read it if you don't know what to do.

  I will not discuss the features or the basic configuration here, because it was quite analyzed in the quoted thread and everything is in the ReadMe. The main changes for this v7 are:

  BugFixes and Additions on 2013/03/23:
  -New HeadShake for Gunner Positions!!! This was something that due to a contradiction on Stock Game never worked. It was necessary to made a change in the FM to allow this to work. Inside the .rar you will see a folder called 00_PAL-VisualMODFixFM-v4111. IT IS BASED ON SAS AI Engine MOD 2.6RC. You need that MOD and load my fix over it. Without that combination, please don't try to activate it because the consequences could be a non-loading game. Without this you will have all the other functions but not so real Gunner Positions, nothing else.
  -New Sluggish response for Gunners (Turrets or manually handed Weapons). Much more real represents the non-instantaneous response on aiming. Aparently this collaborates to make AI Snippers less exact. Still to be confirmed!.
  -New 4 Levels of Stereocity (External, Cockpits, Gunners and Aims / Tubes) => Independent Settings for better Stereo Comfor in any condition of the game.
  -New Stereo Settings for all 4 Levels (External, Cockpits, Gunners and Aims / Tubes) are remembered by the Game. So Next Time you load Il-2 everything is as the last time used (no need to edit Conf.ini for Separation and Convergence).
  -New MOD Remembers Stereo Mode (or Stereo Disabled) => No need to set this either through Conf.ini.
  -Now if plane is On Ground and in External View your sight is not aligned with the plane axis. So you see it as if being a person on-ground. When it gets out of land, the MOD starts to make the camera aligned with it. It shows to be much more reasonable this way.
  -Now if you press "P" for Pause, and the view (this was particularly observable in External View) of the camera was inertially going to some position, it really frozens. Then you can reorient or whatever, but it stops repositioning when you pause the game.
  Previous Change Log:
  -New Real Follow Mode.
  -New 6DOF for External Views.
  -New Fixed Padlock Mode which didn't have Stereo 3D.
  -New Includes Cockpit Change Wind Issue.
  Original Features of the Stereo (Visual) MOD:
  -Fully integrates TrackIR 6DOF MOD (you wont need an indepenent TrackIR 6DOF anymore). There were some isolated problems reported by users that didn't seem to be specifically related to this MOD.
  -Fully integrates EcranWide (you wont need an independent EcranWide anymore). But in this case consider that some extra stuff that you were accustomed to (small fonts, small icons, etc.) would be needed by you. I have added the module Extras For EcranWide.rar that includes all that stuff.
  -ScreenShots are possible in .jpg and .tga format in any Mode.
  -Video captures are possible in most of the current Modes.
  -ModeD has been made perfectly operative and will not conflict basically with any modern card.
  -ModeC includes since v5 Final the chance of directly managing 3D Feature of nVIDIA cards (Quadro series). I still don't have such a card so I cannot effectively test it but it should work. For ATI or nVIDIA non-3D this mode will be a basic mode with auxiliary buffers and a slow one (not recommended).

Download new Visual MOD 8 Pack for v4.121
(Game Menu, Extended Control, Stereo 3D, Real Follow, EcranWide & ScreenShots, based in new v4.121 code) (https://www.mediafire.com/download/e3nu3b27vgsa18v/00_PAL-VisualMOD8-v4121.rar)
(Updated 2013/10/09)

Two Words on Installation: this MOD version superseeds any Visual MOD and MiniMap (GUIPad) MODs. I strongly suggest you to delete your previous MODs of this two types and then copy a clean set of the new Visual MOD 8.

Documentation coming soon (or later)... (http://)

This Stereo 3D MOD by requirement of many users was adapted to support TrackIR 6DOF and EcranWide. Nonetheless I have implemented these two functions in a slightly different way, I would credit for the inspiration these MODders:
-sHr for the mouse 6DOF (I use my previous reworked MOD of Mouse Headshaking 6DOF).
-Josse and CirX for the settings for Wide Monitor support.
-Kegetys for TrackIR 6DOF (and different changes made by others as far as I know).

A Big Innovation now accesible from the Game Menu is the chance of switching the Control to other Aircrafts or Viewing by name any other actor of the game. It is posible through two dedicated menues (Control and View):

You 'welcome Malone!

You are a good feedback source. And you helped me on deciding what would be the final shape of this.

Even when it Works quite well it's still waiting for massive testing. I know that the switch of planes still doesn't de-attach yourself of your original plane. Because if the crew hits the silk, you are ported back to your spawn plane.

But now I have structured everything in some diferentiated new classes that will allow any rework to be easy and ordered.

Regards,

yes, it's really neat and quite unintrusive, and the features are great, neatly ordered, i could go on...lol.
just to add from my further testing, you remember i experienced the random comms/tab failure when switching? i have since noted that this only occurred on my Modact 5.2 standalone install (very rarely, and still no closer to the cause)
however, i have been testing on the new Multi/DBW install of yours, and am happy to report it has not happened once on this install.
everything working smooth as silk. :D
i can't say how much i appreciate this mod, finally i can do the switching i have only dreamed of since first playing this sim all those years ago. :D

Just tried it, this will be an instant classic, this is a great improvement of the GUI. Thanks!

And I love the way you can jump in any aircraft.

FYI, I tried it quickly on Linux, seems OK. Perhaps a glitch with EcranWide, but I think it is my setup.

for the meanwhile, unless Pablo can figure out how to overcome death, lol, here is a little manual workaround i am using to stay alive between changing planes.
in my mission, i assign a single plane to be flying on the edge of themap, or far from any action - then, when i switch planes, i first switch to this one, and then to the next plane near the action.
so far, this seems to work quite well in avoiding any unwanted deaths (so far, you will 'die' if the previous plane pilot you were in control of is killed, or bails.)
still testing, but initially it seems this way does the trick ;)

The game 'll be no more the same after this revolution mate!

What I feel as a great revolution by taking control of different planes , which we can have by this AMAZING mod , is that we can set missions (single or QMB) with delayed take-off and while returning from the first part of the mission switch to the new planes and make a second trip over a really active target where all what we have destroyed is still visible and not set a second mission where we fly over the same target as was the first time....

....a must at this point should be a full conversion for 412 of C&C mod....

Benito

This sounds superb mate, really well done, love the idea of changing planes.

I mainly fly night missions using 4.101 as CY6's Command & Control 3.031 mod and Sputnikshocks Radar and nav aids only work in 4.101 and to me they are essential. so with that said i was wondering if there are any plans for a 4.101 release? Or is this not possible due to code change? Not requesting just wondering i can manage ok with things as they are, or make a separate 4.12 install.

Ideally Command And Control 3.031 and Sputniks mods would be updated for 4.12, but unfortunately i do not believe CY6 or Sputnik have the time to support any further development of their mods.

regards

slipper

I use IL-2 on Linux with a program called Wine that creates a simulated windows profile. Quick question: Is it possible to use this with Chromadepth 3d glasses?

And how is the performance with the Windows simulated Linux? Have you compared it to native Windows? Because some OpenGL operations can work better with it.

Regarding Chromadepth I don't know much about it, but the source image (what you see in the screen) should be quite manipulated as far as I know. It is more complicated tan showing two semi-images.

Excellent innovation.

I've noticed some glitches, flying from Quick Mission planner.

-sometimes (usually after multiple successful "control plane" changes, the menu doesn't disappear with Tab key (and the communication order tree doesn't appear any more either)
-when this happen, map does not appear either, and the game cannot be paused
-in some cases, Autopilot cannot be disabled (which leaves me able to changes cockpits but unable to pilot the planes)
-when I exit the mission, the menu bar and status bar remain in view below the regular IL-2 menu interface
-when I hit refly or start a new flight and hit Tab key, the communications menu comes up normally, and when I hit Tab key again, both the communications menu AND the "stuck" menu- and status bar disappear from view.

Probably in the future I will implement an alternative HotKey for it to be dedicated.

thank you for not forgetting this. You know my arguments against the TAB-Key...  ;)

But apart from this Key this mod is a true milestone
in expanding of what is possible in Il-2!
My congrats and many thanks for a excellent mod Pablo.  :)

I also use Wine : in fact, I have my regular Windows install on a NTFS disk I can see and use on Linux. Nothing to be done if you have Wine, just click the Il2 launcher and enjoy. For graphical performances, I'd say it is a bit less pretty than Windows (antialiasing mostly) but I did not try to play much with the driver settings (and of course, it depends on your Linux GPU drivers). For CPU performances, I'd say it is slightly better in Windows. I did not try to quantify the differences yet, I should try a big mission and check the FPS.

In fact I tried it just two weeks ago, out of curiosity.

This is an amazing Mod! What a great tool!

May I ask something which would be awesome, specially for film-makers?

Is it possible to add a "rewind" option to the track?

Thanks a lot, Pablo.

Hi Pablo,
first: thank you for this great mod!

Second: I have a bug to report.
I don't know if you remember me but before I had great difficulty getting this mod to work on my PC. I just thought I'd try again, and lo andbehold... I actually got it to work!
In the process I also found out what the problem is.

If I have these settingsin the conf.ini the game works:
width=1920
height=1080
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=0
FullScreen=1
SaveAspect=1
WideScreenFoV=0

If I have these settingsin the conf.ini the game crashes:
width=1920
height=1080
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=0
FullScreen=1
SaveAspect=0
WideScreenFoV=1

(Just the relevant bits shown)

Is this a bug, a feature or a problem specific for my notebook with both Intel on-cpu graphics and discrete Radeon graphics?

All the best and thanks again!

Herra,
            I have detected some of those issues. Most of them were derived form the fact that after having switched view or control, you used to loose the GUI control (the mousse cursor, etc.).

  I think that I have figured out how to avoid all of those issues. I have to test the changes I introduced. Probably in some hours I will post the new version from home, so the one who wants can evaluate it.

  I was even considering just disabling the "M" and the MiniMap while the menu is shown. Because those are the only two items that work with the GUI during mission and there is some sort of competence.

                            Pablo

Hello "hello"

  Do the same changed settings produce a difference in the non-Visual MODded game?

  Due to the fact that you have a Full HD monitor, the SaveAspect=1 should be present, but I really don't know if the WideScreenFoV can or not affect it.

  On the other hand: what "it didn't work in your PC" means? CTDs? What kind of?

Title: Re: New Visual MOD 8 (Game Menu + Stereo 3D + RealFollow + Features)

As I understand it, if you set saveaspect=1, the output is always in 4 to 3 ratio, meaning you get the full height of the screen and black areas to the left and right. I see this when the game (with the mod) works. When I set saveaspect=0, without the mod the game fills out the entire screen. With the mod, when the aspect is not standard, the game crashes and I find one of those his_err_pidxxxx.log files in games root dir.

In the other thread (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,32024.156.html), about the 4.11.1 version, I listed my notebooks specs:

My notebook is a Samsung Samsung Notebook Serie 3 350E7C. It  has an Intel CPU i7-3630QM, 4 cores with an Intel HD4000 graphics processor. It also has an AMD Radeon HD7670M GPU. I can set it to use either the Intel or the Radeon GPU, depending on the demands (power vs battery life). When hooked up to the power brick I use the radeon GPU (which of course I do for IL2).
For other games and programs it works flawlessly. It also works perfectly for IL2 when not using this mod.

My solution:

[Mods]
PAL3DStart=4
Quote
0-Stereo Disabled
1-Stereo Mode A (the one you saw in v4Beta, that now is the default)
2-Stereo Mode B (the original v3, “flickering” one, but good for some systems).
3-Stereo Mode C (a variant of the V3 with two buffers, non-flickering but slower. Could be very good in some powerful GPUs).
4-Stereo Mode D (a two combined frames version that still doesn't work very good. In some video cards can work OK).

My second problem: TAB opens the frame of the chat box too. That disturbs the handling.

Hallo Blaubär, you can chance the Button in the game: Controls/MISC/Chat – that should be the solution  :-\

Dear community, I'm a new member here. But I do IL2 a long time. Viva IL2!!! ;-)
I also wanted to try the Visual mod 8. Hopefully watch the game in 3d with a LG 3d monitor (polarizer). [is it possible actually?!?!?] I inserted the VisualMOD8 folder to the jsgmemods folder and activated it via the generic mod enabler. That’s usually the way – but here it does not work. I’ve no menu (by ‘Tab’-Button) on the top, no each other effects. ;-/ Additionally I put the [MODS]-lines in the conf.ini and did set 3D to ON (PAL3DStart=1/2/3/4) But here I’m not sure where the ride place in the conf.ini – to the end or between any other entries? I did try different variants. Even I’d made a brand-new IL2-installation+SAS Modact 5.22.
What’s wrong respectively what can I do to have 3D finally?
An answer will oblige – regards, strange bird

@AvisDiagonalis
This mod was not intended to work with JSGME, you only need to put it in your mods folder (#SAS, or MODS).

@TICI
4.12.1m already have 6DOF for mouse, but this mod will make it more smooth.

 Just found out that 4.12 has 6DOF for mouse and I'm using it now. If I use this mod I have an issue: When you toggle a plane or object and switch back to front view with the toggle button from the joystick the view goes back and forth twice , I tried the Autoreset=1 and 0 but no difference.

This MOD Works on the principle of alternating frames (one for the left eye, the next for the right eye). In the anaglyph mode typically used, both images are mixed up to show to your eyes a stable image.

It can easily be sent as two completely independent frames in full color that will produced an image with phantom to your eye because the fast alternance). If your Monitor set, your video card or whatever could interlace it, you are done.

The so called "Mode C" of the Stereo feature works with two separate buffers (left and right) that can be sent by a video card to a 3D monitor (in any possible format for it). But the problem is that few and only expensive cards have this feature of "real stereoscopic infrastructure".

Updated versión in First Page!!! (2013/10/26)

Sorry but it only works on v4.12.2

New Features never published yet:

-Configurable HotKey to deploy Menu. Go to Controls and find in MISC section the option GameMenu. I use in my profile the Home key for this and it is wonderful.
-Time Skip in menu.
-Completely independent from the GUIPad (MiniMap).
-Completely independent from the Orders Tree.

Fixes:
-External 3Ds were never smoother (I have fought a lot to achieve this, it was quite complicated).

Being the rebel I am, I tried using it on 4.12.1 anyway - so far the only incompatibility I've found is that when you're bailing (not sure if that happens on 4.12.2 or not), the camera goes a bit crazy. No crashes so far. Game menu works very well, although I didn't try switching between planes yet.

Mostly I'm trying this because the multiplayer server I fly on will update to 4.12.2 only sometime next week, so I haven't applied that patch yet. Just figured you'd want to know that even though official support is only for the latest version of the game, it seems to (mostly) work on the 4.12.1 as well.

The smoothness of external cameras is great. The only problem I can see is the somewhat slow default response to moving the camera around - it'd be ideal to have a control over it, as I would prefer  the response to be slightly higher than current default. I tried adjusting the inertia parametre, but didn't see any change - does the latest documentation have an updated list of controllable parametres?

Great work, it's been a delight to follow the process of this mod's creation from the beginning...

Herra,
               I was ready for concerns of this type. Later I will document properly all the settings, but there is a special setting for that. Now you have these 3 first parameters for External Views:

Code: [Select]
//0.0001..1 - By PAL, Inertial Factor, Position in External View
PAL3DFollowInertia=0.01
//0.0001..1 - By PAL, Inertial Factor, Angle in External View
PAL3DFollowInertiaAngle=0.01
//0.0001..1 - By PAL, Inertial Factor, Mouse Response in External View
PAL3DExternalSoftView=0.075
//0.001..1 - By PAL, Soft Movements inside cockpit:
PAL3DCockpitSoftView=0.075
//0.0001..1 - By PAL, Soft Movements for Gunners:
PAL3DCockpitTurretInertia=0.001
//By PAL, determines if the TrackIR is used in External View (default disabled)
PAL3DExternalTrackIR=0

  Sorry but in the version published, the setting was not properly named. Soon I will update it. In the current version posted, the setting you want is called PAL3DExternalInertia (use this setting as temporary, it works).

                          Pablo

About 3D TVs, the mode B almost works in alternate frames 3D mode of my TV.
The only problem is that I can't sustain more than 60 FPS all the time, so, the image changes from left to right all the time.
Mode C doesn't detect my ATI HD6950 and the mode D only shows the left image.
I hope some day we could enjoy the 3D effect with our cheaper 3D TVs, we are almost there. ;)

Thank you, Pablo, this mod is fantastic, fantastic indeed. :)

No,
             you are speaking about a very basic and simple card that could play 3D movies, etc. A card like that working with Il-2 even in a powerful computer, will perform in mono quite undecent in FPS.

  These are the cards with real quad-buffers (two sets of them one for each eye):

http://www.nvidia.com/object/quadro_pro_graphics_boards.html

  Those are the ones that compose separate rendering frames in two different memory spaces, and later, having them completely independent, render the frames to you in several format 100% by hardware, so no impact at all in you programs. $30 dollars? LOL. More than $800? That's a normal value.

  Generating interlaced video in a standard card seems to be easier than generating side to side or up-down stereo in Il-2. It could be optimized to have a "quite low" impact on FPS. But from the papers to work a lot of effort is required.

Quite impressed with this mod!  I have been flying with it a few days and tweaked a little for TrackIR support.  I am running Mode C with a GTX 670 with no need for glasses.

Just flew a GhostSkies campaign mission last night and this server is running 4.11/HSFX 6+ expert thus the mod would not work (could not choose an airbase).  I disabled and flew GS without the 3D and really noticed the difference!  The perception felt "flat" even though before the mod things appeared great with perceived feel of 3D.  However, now with this mod, much better and hard to go back to without!

I have tested this mod on other online servers running 4.12+ with HSFX 7 and it appears to work well.  Both CRT2 required compliance and not.

All in all, excellent addition and visual experience both online and off... One of the top, if not the top mod out there!

Hi, Pablo. :)

My card has real quad-buffers, it is a HD6950, but I think the way the program recognizes this feature is only for nVidia cards.
Well, in the begining of the AMD HD3D technology it was only for Direct X mode, but I found some discussion in AMD foruns saying that the last drivers enable quad-buffers for OpenGL.
If you have some time, take a look at the discussion here:

Santo,
                as far as I know, there are some signals that can be sent by HDMI to let the TV set (a 3D google syncrhonized one) to know ehich one is the left and which one is the right frame.

  Not reaching the 120Hz of refresh rate most of the TVs require will lead to some flickering, but  theorically a "quite decent" image could be seen.

  I don't think it would be posssible to find a universal wasy of letting any video card know how to individualize which frame is being transmited to the TV set / monitor.

Pablo,

Is it really possible to let a 3D TV/Monitor to identify a "flickering" 2D video source as a 3D source where left/right images alternate? With the amount of customization you've built into the mod - you wouldn't really NEED to have an universal way of telling the television which frame is right-eye and which one is left.

You can just test and let the TV guess - and if it guesses wrong, simply change the position of eyes by flipping the eye separation value to negative... if it's possible to get the television to realize that it should use this alternating video stream as a 3D video source rather than 2D, then I think the problems is already more than half solved... maybe. I don't know enough to say if my intuition is worth anything, to be honest.

Interlacing would require a new way of compositing two full colour images, but take the odd numbered lines from first image and even numbered lines from second image; arithmetically it should be reasonably simple, but code-wise I have no idea if the existing code even has any suitable framework for manipulations like that. Although, if there's already a way to composite channels from separate images into one, then interlaced compositing should also be possible. If that would enable 3D on TV sets that automatically recognize interlaced 3D sources, it would obviously be pretty cool.

However, flicker-based stream transmission would be superior because it would retain full vertical resolution and image quality.

Also something to consider: If it were possible to do side-by-side 3D, then IL-2 1946 would essentially be compatible with Oculus Rift (there already are mods to adjust the field of view wider than the stock game allows).

And that, I think, would be pretty darn awesome...

If it is sent to the tv interlaced on a polarized tv it doens't need to know left or right. You just put on the glasses and it works. I have a 6950 and use tridef on many games. Interlaced works the best because you get the best quality and frame rates with it. It works better than side by side and the others. I don't know what bentitomuso meant by an$800 dollar card for 3d games. I have a 6950 and it works fine for real 3d games and not virtualized 3d. Which I have seen that option for games one is virtual 3d and not as good quality 3d but faster and the other is real 3d processing true 3d imaging. I play portal in 3d ,crysis and hitman in true 3d at 1080p I get 30fps. If it was 720p I would get 60fps with tridef driver which I was using with IL-2 but for some reason can no longer get to work. Tridef does not natively support IL-2 because it is opengl it works with directx 9 and up and IL-2 can if in directx mode only do directx 8. I was using GLDirect .dll to translate IL-2 form OpenGL to Directx9.

Well you do need to get the order of interlacing right. Other than that, I know what you're saying - interlaced stream sends full FPS stream but halves the vertical resolution for each eye, so you do lose some quality of the image, no matter what de-interlacing schemes you use to try and restore the lost information.

The advantage to this is that you don't need super high frame rate to get flicker-free image.

Flickering stream sends the individual streams as alternating, full resolution images, so you don't lose any frame quality but you essentially get half the frame rate for each individual eye. That means you need at least 100 Hz VSync rate - ideally 120 Hz or better to experience equally smooth video as regular 2D.

The technology of image separation also affects things. The most common ones are active 3d shutter glasses and passive 3D circular polarized glasses. Flickering 3D could work with both just as well, as long as the shutter glasses are synced to the actual real-time frame rate and not just the highest VSync of the monitor. Polarized glasses are in many ways a simpler solution, but they add a few optical complications...

In my 3D TV, it doesn't work like that. :)
When the TV recognizes a 3D signal, it automatic changes the FPS to 24FPS because of the HDMI limit (it is a cheaper 3D TV).
This mean that the TV is expecting 58FPS or less.
It doesn't matter how much frames the source will transmit to the TV, just like in 2D, the image is repeated by the buffers until the GPU generates the next pair of images.
The effect is very very good, I can play ARMA2, Alien vs Predator, S.T.A.L.K.E.R series, RO2, Men of War, Rise of Flight.

My system is not the best, I have a good card HD6950 but a cheaper CPU and 4GB of RAM.
Just like when I play 2D games, in some heavy scenes the FPS drops, but the image remains perfect, never changes, it never lost the synchronism.

If it works with nVidia, I think it is a matter of detail to enable the quad-buffers for ATI in OpenGL mode. ;)

If it works with nVidia, I think it is a matter of detail to enable the quad-buffers for ATI in OpenGL mode. ;)

santobr.

Is your tv the kind where you have shutter glasses? Becuase it shouldn't matter if it is interlace 3d video. Tv see's it as 2d signal I believe. So you must have the shutter glasses type.

Have you tried the interlaced option with Tridef on computer plugged into tv? On mine if it is half by half or side by side it will do what you are saying on mine as well. That's why I don't use it because 24 frames per second doesn't cut it when it is half resolution per eye as well with polarized. Shutter glasses cut the frame rates in half per eye but full resolution. A shutter glass game as of current technology can get up to 30 fps per eye I believe nvidia at least. I think it is the same for Ati with polarized as well. If I remember right the highest I can get with a game was either 60fps or 30fps. But I think it was 30 at 1080p.

I've got the mod working but I can't figure out how to get the mouse to work normally with external views. Makes looking around in the middle of a fight impossible in externals while being chased. I thought I turned off all that stuff in the config read all posts about config settings. The 3d and minimap work. But I don't have that menu that is shown in the pictures. Tried it with tracknoIr but has difficulty tracking my movements with the 3d glasses on. Time to start saving for a real trackIR I guess. I am on 4.12.2 and HSFX 7. These are my config settings relating to your mods yours are all I'm using right now. :) The 3d is quite impressive for red and blue glasses.

Mine is a polarized 3D system, I use polarized passive glasses. :)
The LCD panel is interlaced, but the problem is that I have an ATI card, and the mode C doesn't recognize the available quad-buffer.
The kind of monitor or the kind of system you use as monitor for you doesn't matter for ATI cards, they are intended to function with most of systems available in the market.
But we can trick the 3D TV with a interlaced image, for sure, the advantage of making this way is that the FPS will be the same as a 2D image, but the disadvantage will be the performance because in quad-buffer mode the 3D effect is made by hardware.

PhoenixOrion, try values

PAL3DFollowInertia=0.1
PAL3DFollowInertiaAngle=0.1

Basically, the way it's set up, seems to be that values approaching 0 have the "full" inertia and values approaching 1 have reduced inertia. But higher values don't seem to work properly, causing a lot of camera flicker - even values 0.5 caused a lot of unwanted behaviour.

Default value being 0.01, if you put the values to 0.1 you get about 1/10th of the inertia (assuming some kind of linear scale, could be logarithmic or exponential as well...). It's there, but not distracting in fast in-game camera movements.

I like the inertia very much, but default values feel just a bit too high (or low) for gameplay. They're just about perfect for making videos, though, so I will probably experiment with different values and adjust them according to whether I'm recording video or actually flying. At the moment, I've settled to values 0.03 for both Inertia and InertiaAngle.

So do you get that menu in the game because I don't have that menu. In the posts it says the tab button will activate the menu but I don't have any menu.

Hi there Pablo,
I just thought I'd let you know this mod works without any problems on my laptop!
I've been nagging about it not working and not being able to help or do much about it but now, in its latest incarnation it works flawlessly. Hurray!

Just for the record, two things have changed since last time I tried:
1) Your new version of course.
2) I upgraded from windows 8 to windows 8.1.

As a matter of fact, I read on the ms developers support site that some things changed in the windows deals with GPU switching, so that might well have solved the issue. I cannot say for sure.

Anyway, a big THANK YOU! for continuing to improve the IL-2 experience.

Request for further understanding of Mode C:

I have an Nvidia GTX670 running on a standard 60 hz LCD monitor at 1920x1200.  However, "I think" I see enhanced 3D when using Mode C without glasses.  I am not sure if its the RealFollow or Mode C, but something is making the pit look more 3D with stick and other controls appearing lifted from frame.  Not sure if its a placebo or not, but using Mode C, I'm assuming I should be on a 120 hz monitor and using Nvidia proprietary 3D glasses setup, correct?

All in all, great mod and definite visual improvement, but I am not sure if I am seeing true 3D without glasses, or its simply the effect of RealFollow?

Mmm... I think it is a placebo effect. Sorry.

First of all: do you see redish and blueish images in the screen? If not there should not be many chances of seing stereo.

As I stated before, Mode C is to work with Quad-Buffer cards. If you really had a Quad-Buffer card (GeForce are not), you should configure this:

Code: [Select]
[MODs]
PAL3DFilterLeft=RGB
PAL3DFilterRight=RGB

It will render two full color images, first to the Left Buffer and next to the Right Buffer. Finally the two frames are commited and the card makes what it is configured for to deliver you stereo video: it creates red/blue subimages, it alternates shutter 120Hz monitor with googles, it transfers interlaced odd/even lines, etc, etc. That's why you have to send it two full color (and not already filtered images). Even when you finally used an anaglyph method (Red/Cyan or Magenta/Green googles), in Mode C, those are hardware (the GPU) and not software (my MOD) processed.

Typical Anaglyph (Software processed) relies on:

Code: [Select]
[MODs]
PAL3DFilterLeft=R__
PAL3DFilterRight=_GB

Which is default for Mode A, B and D.

Even though, those who are making tests with Stereo TVs or monitors which they handle with polarizers or shutter googles, should use full color images PAL3DFilterLeft=RGB and PAL3DFilterRight=RGB.

I hope it clarifies a little.

Because AMD liberated the quad-buffers for Radeon graphics cards 5xxx and newer.
The hardware of Radeon graphics cards are almost the same of the Fire graphics cards, but AMD locked the quad-buffers in card's drivers.
But now, with the HD3D technology, AMD liberated the quad-buffers only in full screen mode, Fire cards have it in windowed mode too.
At first I thought that this technology was intended to work only with directx, but accordingly with that link that I posted for you here, it is possible to use the quad-buffers in OpenGL  too, I don't know for sure. :-\
Well, it's a hope. :)

People, some recent news:

I have added to the MOD the chance of selecting by menu Red/Cyan, Cyan/Red, Gren/Magenta, Magenta/Green or Full color frames for Stereo 3D. It makes much easier configuring and testing things and preferences.

I have started some attempts to achieve full color effective stereocity in 3D TVs, etc., but up to the moments without much success.

Another thing I was considering was incorporating into the Game Menu the options of the HUD Mod, which currently requires a lot of manual configuration.

And some day we will see the in game Control Panel.

I've had this mod on my computer for a little while now and think it is awesome but unfortunately I cannot use it. I want to use the 3d but cannot turn off the inertia effect, which makes battling in a sortie with external views in Skies Of Valor unplayable. I mainly use that view to watch where an enemy is when I am being chased and makes me lose every time. It also crashes my game when an enemy gets close and I am trying to watch him. View will go crazy and jump all over the place making watching anything impossible. Is there anyway I can disable it. Do I have to delete certain class files?

 I do hope that this does get working with full color output for 3d tv's, but also hope there is an ability to turn off or on different aspects of the mod for those that may only want certain effects. I think this is a great mod and think you do some great work Bentomuso. The way it is currently though I have not been able to use it for the type of gameplay that I do. Maybe shortly in the future I will be able to develop this mod further. I start going to school in January to be a software engineer and will need to learn as much as possible and Java is one of the languages I will have to learn might be a year or two before I learn enough to do much though.

When I go to the menu and choose "Control Enemy Plane" and jump into the cockpit I have no control over the plane. When I jump back into the plane I left I can't control it either. What simple thing have I missed?

I have a question regarding this mod.
If I have it activated, I cannot zoom in or zoom out on the normal in-game map.
Do I have to set up a special key for this?
Should this work with the mouse wheel? (It doesn't, but that could be a key-assignment conflict)
Anybody inthe know?

Yes, Spinetti's explanation perhaps is assuming that you know something but I think that you are not aware of it.

Whenever you switch, this steps take place:

1-Switch your plane to AI (Artificial Intelligence ~ Autopilot) because if not it would crash on ground, and mainly you want that plane continues on game
2-Abandoning your former-plane
3-Juimping into the new destination plane.

  But who was controlling the destination plane before? The AI. So you have to stop AI (typically A key) and you take effective control.

  I don't do that at once, because you always need some seconds to understand where hell are you when you get into the destination plane. So first you take a look around, you see the cockpit of the plane, and then: control it when you are ready for that.

Sorry to be such a newb, but after a quick scan of a couple hundred posts, I don't see how to activate the menu. "Tab" just pulls up the stock commands, and there is no read me in the archive. I followed many of the threads, but don't see this issue. I'm on the latest 4.12 with the latest HSFX7. Any tips?

Oh, also, the mod is working because the follow functions are clearly in play, just can't figure out how to trigger the menu.... (could it be because of my monitor res? 2550x1440 I think.)

PS, anybody have a stock config.ini for the latest 4.12? I sorta overwrote mine with my old custom .ini, and not sure what I might have missed in 4.12 (game plays fine tho)....

Ah, I see. I didn't understand that part.. thought it was a setting in config.ini.. All working great now, thanks!

BTW, being able to jump from plane to plane is a HUGE gift I wanted since this game came out - Thanks!

I'm sure you may yell at me, but I didn't see an option to kill the HUD entirely? (already have "speedbarunits=0")... in the older versions that killed all the hud, but the latest versions still leaves the compass....

I never Heard of that MOD.

But my current Visual MOD does that!!! It is what I call 6DOF for external views. With the auxiliary button of the mouse (right button) you always can pan or tilt the view, so you can see wherever you want, not just towards the plane.

With normal mouse moving you navigate the sphere around the plane, and moving with the mouse pressed, from that point on the sphere, you orient your sight wherever you want.

A possible answer for a non well formulated question would be: it is explained above in this thread, just read.

If you want to avoid wasting time, you have to invest at least on being polite and formulate proper questions.

If you mean you don't like the inertial behavior: in the Game Menu Storebror included check options to enable/disable them. I took that in further developments.

If you don't like the not aligned to ground view but to aircraft plane: sorry, it will always be like that both in F8 as in F2.

Regarding my previous post, I do not have any intentions to be rude or unrespectful I really am sorry if you get it that way

I just downloaded your latest upload and now I have those options in my game menu. I had older version of your mod and that led me to ask my previous question everything is good now

This will be the v8.2 of the Visual MOD.

Now it has fully implemented the Gauges HUD (I still don't know if the name is proper in English), the Block mode HUD, etc. It offers boxes to contrast the display of Orders, etc.

and this is so true for this mod!   ;D

one question though Pablo:

here  you see only a few static objects, no problem,
(http://s13.postimg.cc/nf8zntlqf/image.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)

but here there is no way to get back to the menu.
(http://s13.postimg.cc/eli36pyrr/image.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)

And when there are more objects, how to show them?
I will try changing the fonts, but maybe you have a better idea?

This isn't the most common situation, but some missions (I think that you have so many because those are the runway lights i.e.). Once you have so many objects shown you have to click in another menu branch, or hide everything with the Menu key.

Post by: Herra Tohtori on January 17, 2014, 12:40:53 PM
Current 8.2 version has two problems I've detected so far.

1. It overrides my font configuration mod and makes the interface font obnoxiously huge again, as well as using different font than what I'm running from another mod. This can be solved with moving my own font mod above the visual mod in loading order, but it was a bit of a surprise to have to deal with that.

2. When the "Game menu" button is used, the game freezes with a java error:

Code: [Select]

Herra,
                I haven't had those errors you mention. Never had that hang when Menu button is pressed. Do you have the last one attached by me in my last pst, pure and without any residual previous version?

  Regarding the fonts:

  I had to créate two (n fact 3) fixed size fonts (to any resolution). Those were required, because there wasn't any previous one constant, and the instruments in cockpit are drawn pixe by pixel 1:1 independently of the resolution, so the fonts at any resolution need to have the same height.

  The fntLcd didn't have alpha characters (only numbers) and that's why I replaced it with the lcdnova.ttf included. In this way the indications of the instruments when you are in learning mode, allow to print the units of the indications.

  Regards,
                           Pablo

Hey il2 fans
Great place to find awesome il2 addons.
this 3d with the glasses is great, I got it to work with hsfx, but not able with stock 4122. I create IL2/MODS/00_PAL-VisualMOD8-v4122 folder, add the pal3d lines in my config file, but never see the "gamemenu" line in controls/misc. Again works like a charm with hsfx. What am I missing.
thx

You need to have some kind of mod activator to tell the game to read data in your MODS directory.

If you use HSFX, it automatically reads stuff from MODS directory.

If you install SAS ModAct, that will use a directory called #SAS for the same purpose.

If you try to use mods with stock game, it will simply not look into the directory where you put the mods. Does that answer your question?  :)

Just upgraded to the newest one and now its WOW time!! I also had the memory crash when i hit my game menu key, found my problem was i had the hud config mod in my sas folder. removed it and no more crashes, now have sweet tas chart etc. The engine mod did say something about needing the hud mod but i guess this new one changes things. great stuff here indeed , many thanks.

Benito, I don't remember if this has come up or not, but using external cam, if a plane loses a wing, the camera goes wild trying to keep up with a spinning plane... Would it be possible for the camera to not try and follow if the rate of change gets too high (such as a spin, or losing a wing)?

Great mod tho....

Really want to try this but cannot get it to work. I started with a fresh install of 1942 with all patches updated to the latest 412 2, then I downloaded and installed SAS Modact and then the mod pack for it that included this mod. In JSGME I activated it and the game crashed immediatly upon starting. All the other added mods work but this one.

Any help you could provide to make this work would be great, thanks.

There is something wrong with this mod. I had trouble with it on a clean install so installed everything again, clean IL2 1946, patches up to 12-2, Modact 5.30, JSGME Options for Modact 5.30 which included this mod.

I activated this mod and the game crashed before loading, same as last time. All the other options work but this one does not.

I have just wanted to try this all again after a long absence from this sim. Before when I came here and posted I received help and fixed problems, this time (many years later) I get no replies and have mentioned this problem in several topics here at SAS.

When I clicked on stereo mode A, the game lost all visuals.  I get sound, and I can still control the plane, but all I can see is the last screen I had up before flying.
I have uninstalled and re-installed the mod, but it keeps the same settings.

Can someone help me with this?

Greetings!

First off I must say this is a great mod and many thanks to Pablo and everyone involved in its creation. However, like a previous poster posted on page 9 or this thread, I do not use track IR and I find the F2 inertia view not to my particular taste (no offense, Pablo!). You replied to that poster:

Quote
If you mean you don't like the inertial behavior: in the Game Menu Storebror included check options to enable/disable them. I took that in further developments.

I cannot find the check/uncheck option that you are referring to. Could you please tell me where it is located?

Scott

you have to set a key for the menu of this mod.
Find "Game menu" and set a key in section "Misc" of key settings.
when you started a mission activate the menu via this key.

Then you get this  ;):

Hi,
No, actually the one you are referring to is for (if I'm reading things correctly) for v4.12.1 and dated 10/09/2013. The one I d'ld is from the top of the page and dated 10/26/2013 and for v 4.12.2

Did I need to install the one you are referencing first and then install the latest one? I installed it by dropping the folder into my #SAS folder.

Thanks,
Scott

Frankly, I do not know.  :(
anyway, glad it works for you now, so enjoy this extraordinary mod now.  :)

Try ie the R(earm)/R(efuel) feature in a mission (works also in QMB!):
when running out of ammunition/fuel just land, put chocks, set RR in menu
and voila: the fight can go on.  ;D

Forgot to comment!

At first I thought i had no problem with this mod; i was using 4.12.1 version bcs i think someone said to use that one (i guess flugkapitan understood that too, anyway).

 Then I put the 4.12.2 one, set up "game menu" key and so on, working perfectly... until i saw i was missing something when i saw your screenshot in previous page, having the same problem as flugkapitan: i dont have that "options" tab, nor those exciting things of rearm ans so on :D . So i tryed your file then the CTD.

Yesterday i checked the conf.ini regarding palmodxxx lines as i was using the posted config, but as i am writing im thinking maybe i have something wrong in the lines regarding hud options (units, engine data etc), will check tonight.

Hi Gerax,

Seems i found it. 00_PAL-HUDConfig-v4121 disabled and no more CTDs when pressing "game menu" key  ;D

Now all working flawlessly, thanks!

I hope someone can clue me in on this mod. I have no idea what settings to put into the config or how to set this mod up. On the first  page the author stats there is a pdf manual in the rar. I have downloaded and tried both 412 1 and 412 2 versions and neither have any manual or pdf.

I have lasted Modact with TFM 412.2 all working fine but when I add the visual mod the game will not load.

Have a good read of the first post here and make sure that you download the version for 4.12.2. In the threads for the TFM-412 there is an example conf.ini entry list that gives great results. Read into the thread here and you will find a version from SAS~Gerax that includes Rearm and Refuel. Wizard!

Thanks, I have tried both version 412.2 and 412.1 and added the lines to the config found in the example but still will not let game load.  I have tried with stock version of a working DBW and a stock up to date version of the new TFM 412.2 and it always stops the game before main window comes up.

I have installed via JSGME and also installed manually in SAS folder and the only way to get the game to load is to delete the PAL folder. Does it require a certain JAVA or other software to work?

I might just be one of those that will not be able to use this. I think my only hope is for it to be included in an upcoming TFM 312.2 package.

Hi Teisco,

Please be sure you disabled Minimap and Hudmod, in case you have them in your mods folder, also any older visualmod or 3dmod or something like that...

Thanks, I checked and none of those are present in the SAS folder. I did notice in the first post here that he says to use engine mod 2.6 but I am using the latest version, 2.7, could that be a  problem?

I am having problems with PAL visual mod not working so set up the log file to log startup. After trying the visual mod again and having it stop the game from loading I get this one single line in my log file -
"Command not found: fps START SHOW OpenGL provider: Opengl32.dll"

I normally get a list in the log file so wondered what was up with just this one line showing?

When reading all your posts above it seems to me your game doesn't get over
the very first .rc start sequence. Are you trying it any other version as 412? Do not.

So lets try: disable the visual mod via jsgme.
dl my "version" from reply #146:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=37311.msg449310#msg449310
and install it in the "normal" way into your #SAS folder.
Then try again. In tfm you should have no other mods avtive than those wich came with Montys tfm.

Thanks, I  have tried in DBW and now the 412.2 version of TFM 412.2 and it does get to the small window than crashes before the main opening screen. I have been installing directly to the SAS folder each time.

Hi Pablo
i'll test the latest version out this evening, mate, thanks for it! :D
just some thoughts that have been flowing through my mind, and i thought to share some of them.
first, it would be nice if it were possible to implement a menu/HUD transparency option, perhaps making use of a slider, with which to easily adjust the overall transparency of the HUD message text.
i love the RR features we currently have, but it would be the cherry on the cake if we could make use of the last R, namely repair. :D
those suggestions aside, i think we should consider consolidating this thread, to try and make it easier for people to follow, and avoid the sort of confusion which we've seen arise over different versions of this mod (i think the problem lies largely with the fact that each new version file is named exactly the same. perhaps adding the release date in the name of each new iteration will help?
lastly, i see that there is little feedback of this mod, and i suspect it's largely due to the fact that many newer people aren't sure of the new features, such as RR, which is only briefly mentioned in the thread, but the usage isn't documented.
in fact, the missing documentation is a problem for many newer people - this sort of mod needs a bit of info, and this is still being waited on, a long way down the road already.
i know its a pain, and i will even offer to assist with it, but i think it's important to have some basic documentation on the latest features, and how they are used.
that's the sum of my suggestions for now.
thanks for your continued efforts with this, it's much appreciated! :D

Malone,
                     I totally agree regarding the Documentation of this. You know, my situation is that every day I have less time for everything in my life, so fortunately I can dedicate a couple of hours per week to program somthing of a MOD, but I'm not in the mood of documenting it.

  So if you can collaborate, especially with some printscreens to make it evident, it could be very useful. The current Visual MOD integrates tens (not less than 30) changes to the stock game. Most of the details are only known by advanced users as you, and eventhough there are some details that perhaps only me myself am aware of.

  If you want to start a formal document starting at the beginning with the features listed in the first page, it would be an advance, later I can give you some feedback to enrich it.

  Regards,
                          Pablo

Pablo, a little (hopefully) suggestion for improving the navigation through your menus, specifically when one wants to 'cycle' through the names of actors/chiefs/static, etc, its hard to move from one object to the next without losing your place in the menu list, due to the similar naming.
what i suggest, is something like what the FMB map list has - there is a little check mark next to the currently selected map, so that it's easy to move form one to the next in the list.
so, if you could implement a similar 'check' mark for the currently selected actor in the drop down list, that would really help navigation.
hope my explanation is okay, and thanks for considering ;)

Post by: benitomuso on May 25, 2014, 09:02:45 AM
Malone,
             in fact the object menu does that. But you only have one "actor" focused: a plane or a technics, from your current side. But if you go to select one different type of object or an enemy one you will not see any check because they are not selected.

  Let me think if something can be done to improve it.

  I'm going to send to you by PM the original manual of the 3D Stereo MOD. If you want to use that as a chapter of some documentation for the visual MOD it could be a start.

  Regards,
                        Pablo

Hello! I am a L... O... N... G...TIME fan of the il2 series since day one of the sim. And I am very happy to see all the very hard work that goes into keeping this old dog barking! this dogs teeth may be a bit yellowed but it can still stand its ground.
Now.. to my question, I have been hoping for a stereoscopic update to the il2 1946 for very long time and now there seems to be one in this mod
(THANKS FOR THE MOD and HARD WORK!)......BUT! I seem to not be able to get it to work on my PC!, I have an Asus GTX560 MAX overclocked (kinda the same specs as a GTX580) graphic card, A 3ghz quad core processor and 4 gigs of ram on Vista Ultimate.  I can run FSX in 3d and just about any game in 3d at max settings on a 42 inch Vizio 3d monitor, so i know my system is capable of stereoscopic 3d. I have installed Modact 5.3 and all the needed updates to 4.12.2 and everything runs "mods included" (using JSGME) but not the SAS Visual Mod8 PAL mod!. The start splash screen for modact 5.3 comes up then goes away! if i us the visual mod8 version that has the "RRR" at the end of it i can get the game to start and all run normal but in the control settings under (Misc) there is no "Game Menu" in the list, which if i read correctly that's how to activate the menu for visual mod8? is there something i am not getting right? Oh... does the game need to be running in opengl or DirectX (which only show "DX8wrap" in the config file) Cant seem to get DX to run after install of mod activator! only GL runs!

Thanks if anyone can help!  I really really would like to have il2 in 3d finally!

Wow, quite a bunch of questions at one post. :)

Since you pm'd me (lol-that is the last area I can argue about)..:
First:
The new options are available under "miscellaneous" in your game folder, TBH I forgot that these options came with the Visual Mod. Yet yes, that was the case, simply forgot it.
The key you need to assign is called "game menu".

I do not know what to say WRT to your question on the version of this mod nor why it does not work for you, but I can give you two tips. :D

1st: Wait for an admin with coding capability or the master (benitomuso) to read this post.
They will know.
2. In any case, if you experience lags, crashes, or freezes, get used to utilize this mod:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=19308.0

It tells you via its log.lst named textual file what exactly happened from the game code's perspective the last time you flew a mission. If you copy the last let's say 50-100 lines and post them with your crash description in code
Code: [Select]
aka # brackets here, along with the system specs like above and your game version like above.. ;)..you get a good chance for a precise tip often. The brackets for code (to spare space when posting long text) come up when you hit the # sign when making a post. 3rd bar of signs above text window, to be precise, at least on my rig.

For the rest, please read a bit more on the forum wrt performance.

Especially in the new Member Safety Area and the Tech help area.
Since you have an NVidia card, and a fast one if I recall the specs correctly, you should fly in Open GL. Direct X for IL-2 sucks and is regarded ancient.
ALl the advanced map features like Open GL.
But that can also be a matter of taste.

And...In your Open GL, conf.ini section, mark:

TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1
TexFlags.DepthClampNV=1
TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1
TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1

That is for Nvidia.

There is a good thread named "Inside the Conf.ini" somewhere on the forum.
..it helps a lot.

Good Luck!

Tom

PS:

The "NV=1" or "NV=0" setting in your conf.ini textual file (in your main IL-2 game/parent install folder) is designed to fit NVidia or AMD/ATI cards.
 :P I run Ati.

Thanks for the reply Tom and let you know if anything changes, as far as the no "visual mod8" working.

And i will be changing a few openGL settings to match Toms and see how they look and run on my rig.

PS; As for my choice of Graphics card I have had very very good results from nvidia cards! not so much the same with amd/ati (radeon) cards, but that might be because of the way i build my PCs not the cards them self.

The 'Game Menu' is in the Controls section which you access once you start the sim and has to be set to enable VisualMod8. The conf file has various settings that can then be adjusted to customise behaviour.

Post by: darrme62 on May 27, 2014, 04:29:13 PM
Well. thanks for the reply "MadDog" but like i mentioned in my post the "game menu" everyone talks about just is not in my list! I looked in the (controls) (Misc) list and there is no (Game Menu) in the list to set a key binder to. I "activate" the mod in JSGME and it shows as being there? but no list in the in-game controls menu. Oddly though there does appear to be a gap in the list under (Misc) about 3rd from the bottom? is that possible the mystery spot it should be in? if so! i may have a gremlin in my il2 software  :(

I'll keep messing with this till i figure it out!
Or! I break it!

I will never give up!
Until I give up! ???

Thanks for any and all help! we will get this thing to work, or die trying! ;D

Game Menu resides between Toggle Mirror and Next Beacon in Misc. That is where it should be and if  you don't have it then you don't have the right stuff. You must be running 4.12 with ModAct 5.3 to start with. I have TFM-412 and it is definitely there.

Thanks again "MadDaog"..last night I tried to find the "mystery" (game menu) again to no avail!. I then decided to start from scratch and removed all il2 files and re-install il2 4.12.2+modact5.3+the latest version (5/22/14) of 00.pal.visual mod8. And that put me right back to the .....modact splash screen ...then desktop....nothing else! no game start!...then I removed the Visual mod8 file from jsgmemod file and put in the version from another post in this SAS thread topic (  PAL-VisualMOD8-v4122_RRR.7z  ) and activate it using jsgme that file would let il2 start but no sign of the visual mod8 in the controls setup menu!.
obviously I am not doing something right?
I know the mod dev put lots of hard long hours into this mod, and it is very well appreciated by all the IL2 1946 fans.
But! it would be great to have some kind of docs for this mod for peaple who run into issues (like me!)? And it looks like a game changer if i could ever get it to work!
Well..I'll keep trying!
Thanks! for any help I can gleam from the SAS community.

Darrme,
               if you have a proper Il-2 Sturmovik with SAS ModAct 5.30 working and operating, even without my Visual MOD, you should see the 'Game Menu' item to assign a key to it.

  To make your life easier: just forget about the VisualMOD, your problema is before it. Remove everything, get the 'Game Menu' appearing in your "SAS ModAct 5.30" advertised properly loading game, and I can bet that later you will be able to actívate the Visual MOD.

  Something you are using (some MOD) is overwritting the HotKeys defined by the SAS Mod Activator. Then: no Game Menu and no joy with the Visual MOD.

  Regards,
                          Pablo

Thanks for the reply (Benitomuso) I understand that you are the great mind behind this nice Mod?..And somehow "I WILL" get it to work! ""I Soooooo want to see IL2 1946 in stereoscopic 3d.""
So far I have done a complete fresh install patched up to 4.12.2 and have tried both install as admin and regular install both are in files made outside of the "programs" file (twice) and I get the same issue :(, I have no other mods installed till I install the (Modact5.3) (then I run a test start to see if it is running well) I have done a check right after the modact5.3 is installed, i do see a modact splash screen
and i do see it listed on the main in-game start-up screen along with the version numbers, (but I do not see the (Game Menu) listed in controls (misc) to set a key binder). then I will insert the (visual mod8) into jsgme and move it to the active side, check the jsgme config settings (XML) file and it shows its there, And click on the il2 1946 EXE.... then Modact splash screen (for a second)..... and no start, I will then remove the VMod8 and il2 starts as normal. Oddly though if i try the other version from the post that SAS~Gerax uploaded, I can at least get the game to start but not finding the (Game Menu) listed in controls (misc) to set a key binder to. I am obviously missing something?

3d stereoscopic is my goal and 3d stereoscopic is what i will get! Maybe?

right now I Am at my office so i cant really try any new methods in IL2 yet but I will keep plugging away at it when i get home later."I will figure it out!" I hope!

i hope it hasn't already been mentioned, i didn't read through the entire thread, but would it be possible to prevent, when taking control of another plane, that it reverts to a default skin and markings?
this is not a major issue, just a 'would be nice' thing ;)

Thanks to all that tried to help me get this mod to run on my PC, I finally got it to work! It seems to have been a bad file in what appears to be the (4.07 to 4.12.2 MEGA patch) I did a step by step patch up to 4.12.2m and all is working now!

Well! All I have to say to the Dev's of this mod "HOOOOOORRRAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!" :) you have taken this old girl and gave her a set of new %#@$t ( i think you can fill in the blanks?) to be played with!... All kidding aside, this is one great leap for the fans of il2 1946 that you have done!. CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a foot note!
I found out that it only showed the (Game Menu) in the misc list after I installed ( SAS Flyable AI planes for 5.30, and SAS JSGME options for modact 5.30.) and activated them and most of the mods in jsgme, and then I only got (Game Menu).... after i loaded a plane and then went to the controls keys list and then found it in the MISC list! not before those steps could i ever see it under the main screens controls setting list! Don't know if that's the way it "should have worked out?" but it does on my PC!

Thanks again!

hi Pablo
it's me again, with some more ideas of possible extra functions for the menu.
basically, i just want to throw these ideas out there, if any of them become reality, all the better - if not, so be it :D
i would like to be able to give a sub-set of minor technical commands, to my flight only would be good enough, but if it can work for more, also good.
this would include the ability to command the flight to do things like open canopies, use nav lights, landing lights, tail-smoke and such sort of things.
i was using your control menu to quickly cycle through my flight of hurricanes, only briefly taking control, opening the canopy, and then taking over the next plane.
the result was a cool scene of my flight of Hurricanes all flying line abreast with their cockpits open :D
so, this was the inspiration for this request.

i explained the trick in my previous post ;)

the only difference is, in that post i was talking about opening all the canopies, but the principle is the same.
cycle through your flight via the 'take control' option, quickly switch off autopilot, press whatever action you want - smoke, canopy, lights, etc and then switch autopilot back on, move to the next plane and repeat ;)

i explained the trick in my previous post ;)

That is funny Malone! It is possible to do that, but some of the functions should be investigated. In fact I consider that the easiest way is to intercept the HotKey management and there replicating it to the other planes of your flight.

For the while I don't have time for that, but I don't know in the future.

People, I realized a bug me myself introduced when trying to make the external movements completely fluent.

The outside views were not properly working in stereo, and if you paid attention they looked shifted to the right.

Now they are centered and tremendously crispy and sharp as they should have been.

+ One on Eugene, that in effect would make IL-2 more realistic since in real sims you can command your wingies to do such things like "fence in" (Lights off), fence out, smoke on, etc.
My 2nd idea would be a way to disable that damn textual hints when an enemy is inbound on the Migs, so arcadish, totally breaks immersion to see text on the screen.

Hello again, I have a question about the known accepted resolutions when using Modact and Visual mod 8. I seem to not be able to use my native PC monitors resolution (1680 X 1050) or my 3d monitors native res (1920 X 1080) only res above 1280 X 1024 thats allowed s 1600 X 1200.
When mod-select is set to no mods it allows my native res but not if I set to modact ?. any ideas here?

Nice mods though...even in 1280X1024! But no stereo (other than red blue) on my 3d monitor needs to be native res of 1920x1080 to work properly.

I use 2560 x 1440 which is really kickass. Set the resolution up in Stab 6.3 and also in conf.ini. Works flawlessly.

If only i could go that high (MadDog) not able to even set to 1920x1080 i can in the con.fig but then i get black bars on the side! not sure why! Some day I will take the time .........AGAIN..... to start from scratch and redo my install >:(. Till then I am stuck on medium res!

Or till someone gives me a clue on how to fix the res issue?
 Keep'm flying ...MadDog!

You can set your own custom resolution in various ways but I remember that it was a bit of a pain just using what the game gives you. Then I found out that by using Il-2 Stab you can easily set whatever resolution you like. That should write it into the conf.ini and then you will see that resolution within the game options itself.

Excellent mod Pablo, definitely one of my favorites.

Is it possible to add "repair plane" as well?  If possible I would like to see refuel/repair/rearm as a combo and all separated options as well.  And maybe a (customizable timer) for a little bit of realism.  Is this compatible with online play?

Thanks a bunch.

Darrme,
                       the way you explain your "troubles" doesn't help to understand your real "problem" and I have to infer. Please always take in mind that the most exact you are referring facts the most chances you have another person who is not you can understand what is going on.

  Most of the things that you don't get were explained in several instances about this MOD and about other stuff, but I agree that probably that information is not all together to easily get it.

  "No stereo (other tan red and blue)" doesn't seem an objective and balanced explanation, because before that you state facts as general and only in a (comment) you slide the idea that in fact you have stereo, the only thing you don't effectively get is full coloured stero in a 3D Monitor or TV. It is a big difference!

  Stereo means something different for each eye giving you depth perception. So anaglyph (Red/Cyan, Green/Magenta, etc.) IS STEREO. So please don't make statements as "I can't get the MOD to work" because it is performing its duties.

  And now why you don't get your goals fulfilled in spite it is covering its goals without any fault:

  -This game uses a rendering engine called OpenGL (learning never hurts: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenGL)
  -OpenGL (and particularly the way it is used in the Il-2 Sturmovik) is not well suited for systems as nVIDIA 3D Vision, etc. That's the reason why those systems don't work.
  -Establishing a MOD capable of coping with tens of different possible combinations of GPUs with drivers + software + external devices is possible, but extenuating, requires permanent investigation and development. I don't earn a living based in this MOD.
  -The most direct, efficient, cost effective and universal solution, a one that required a lot of investigation and effort, that works practically in any case with very unexpensive devices, is the Anaglyh (coloured Stereo).
  -Stereo TVs normally reproduce stereo contents by themselves (with a media player) driving its alternating frames engine. Using them with computers require devices like 3D Vision glasses or software solutions (paid) like 3DTV Play that delivers through HDMI the signaling required to alternate frames in your TV or fully stereo google monitor. The code is not open for none of these, video card companies are quite greedy and try to make profit on every possible feature.

  So there is a "very brief and crude" full color alternating frame mode in my MOD which is not fully functional but some people stated that had worked in stereo TVs for them.

  The MOD as itself (for what it offers) doesn't have any resolution restriction. Me and many others use it in Full HD 1920x1080 and as it was explained before to you in higher and lower resolutions too.

  I hope it helps you to understand the situation.

  Regards,
                            Pablo

Thanks (Pablo) for your "complete" explanation on the ins-n-outs of stereoscopic 3d. I do and did already know most of that info...but not all, my error must have been in the way I misunderstood "from quickly reading over the posts" how your mod was designed to produce the 3d effect! I understand now that it is basically designed for Anaglyph stereoscopic 3d (nice to have this even) and that the Passive 3d was just a happenstance byproduct. As for the res issue that I am sure must be something on my side not your mods side.
And I do admire your zeal to stand by your "baby"(visual Mod X) I am the same way over things that I labor hard and long over too!

As for not posting a coherent understanding as to my issues...I did my best for not being a game developer or much for posting comment's or questions online :-[.

None the less, I stand and salute you.. Sir Pablo!.... very nice Mod...... and if I had a thousand bucks (or any) to spare! it would be yours ;).

And thanks (santobr) I had completely forgotten about the "SaveAspect=0" setting in the confi.ini!
that did the trick! And I need to remember not to use the il2 setup.exe that just messes it back up!.

For me this case is closed "It is what it is".......Thanks for the info and all the reply's that where given.

Hi dudes,

forgive me if this is just me being either blind or stupid......
I have installed modact 5.3 with 4.12.2 and tested all working good.
added the lines as needed in the confi.ini.
However, this mod does not seem to want to work completely for me.
NOTA BENE: I do not want the 3d to work, yet. I do not have the 3D glasses, but I would like the touted menus to work.
According to the original post, this is supposed to work with the TAB key. I cannot get this feature to work. believe me, I have tried.
I know that the mod is working, because I have turned on the 3D, and  can see the anaglyphic screen (and  PALGameMenuStatusBar=1) is on.
I am most probably missing something really minor.
I have downloaded the mod from the first post a total of 5 times, just in case I missed something, but I cannot find the "Readme.pdf" referenced, and I have searched ALL of the folders in the extracted folder.
I have even read and re-read the pages from the development topic.

I have also used the included Visual8 mod that came with the Modact 5.3, and downloaded and installed the mod directly into the #SAS# folder with the same results.

Any help will be appreciated
Muz.

no, muzashi - in the older versions, it made use of the Tab key - the newer version makes use of a new control key, which you have to assign.
look through your controls, towards the bottom, for a control called Game Menu, and assign a key to that. that should give you the menus ;)

Hi Pablo
i have recently discovered that a little problem i've been experiencing is likely related to the Visual Mod. at least, when i disable this mod, the problem disappears, lol, which is why it is my likely suspect.
this thread refers: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=41250.0
while it's not a game-killer, i am a little worried about what is actually happening here, and what commands my AI friends seem to be acknowledging.
certainly it's not urgent, but it would be great if you could look into this issue when you have the time.
i'd really appreciate it, mate, thanks in advance for any solution. ;)

Malone,
              it is quite weird. I mean: I don't remember any part of code that could be generating something like that. The Visual MOD doesn't send commands except when you press a menu item. And none of those are related to the PadLock.

  I'm going to take a look but really I don't have any clue.

  Hay anybody confirmed this?

i'm also waiting for a few more opinions.
once we have more people with this same issue, it might be worth investigating further..
but it certainly seems to be connected.
once i removed the mod this morning, immediately the problem stopped.
now i've enabled it again, and the problem is back.

been testing it a bit more, and it is really pretty strange.
as we know, padlock is only working once a plane is within 3km distance.
now, as i am fltying towards enemy planes, still not within 3km, and i press F4, obviously it does not padlock, but, this radio message happens when the planes are in my line of sight (i.e; where i am looking with the mouse.
if i look away from the enemy planes, in another direction, and press F4, then there is no radio message.
so, it seems to happen only when the enemy planes are 'centred' in my view, whether they are in padlock range or not.
strange stuff....testing continues.
if anyone would like to help out by trying to recreate this, it would help a lot, so please guys, if you have this same problem, let us know.
alternatively, if you are trying it and you are not gettiing any radio messages, let us know that, too.

Hi Pablo - well, it seems it can't be this mod, after all.
when i removed it from my ModaAct game, i thought the messages had stopped, but as per my previous post, i wasn't padlocking directly to the planes, so no messages.
also, when i disabled it in my TFM412, the messages remain.
so, my apologies, it's not your mod.
going back to square one... :D

Hi Pablo,
A brilliant Mod, thank you for all your hard work and the sheer inventiveness and imagination you have brought to the game. I have one small problem - I cannot change the scale in the in-flight map. I know it is meant to operate with the mouse wheel, but nothing happens when I scroll up or down. Any thoughts?  Always having the map on the largest scale limits it's value as most of the time icons are out of range!

I have a question: Is the PAL3D6DOFAutoReset=0 nonfunctional? It always resets if I go to flyby or external, and I recall a previous version always kept my custom 6dof position. I believe the class file with the value is 6EABC2640E2C18C4..

please provide the full path name to your game...
it looks like your game might be installed in Program Files folder?
if so, this is wrong - game should not be installed inside Program Files folder....

Hi Pablo
just a question on the new ultra-cool pilot addition - is it possible to allow this pilot control more than once?
to explain, this is what i did in a mission - did a ground-start, bailed out, went walkabout a bit, then took control of another plane on the runway.
took off with this plane, then bailed out at altitude - parachuted down, and was met with the usual automated running and diving pilot sequence.
would it be possible to allow for me to parachute down, and then run around in the countryside again..? or not..?
it's no big deal if it can't be done, or is too much extra work, just thought i'd ask to find out.. ;)

Malone,
                    yes, it could be done, but everything requires time...

  From the last versión I posted, I finally decided to create an independent Class to separate all this of the Paratrooper. Its code name is Walker. The problema of using eject to generate a Paratrooper is that it brokes your plane.

  The new Walker is triggered by a Menu Command: "Leave Plane" and keeps your aircraft intact. But it can only be triggered when your plane is stationed in ground.

  Creating a fully controllable Paratrooper is another dimension. Several new conditions may be present and I really I don't see too much fun.

  One more thing: investigating the Walking Pilot I found a solution to the "Dead Issue" of the previous versions of the Visual MOD. Now if you switch plane (by menu or by Walking Pilot), if your original one deads, you don't get killed. You really are the one you took control of.

  Regards,
                       Pablo

that's just fine, mate - as always, i merely make suggestions, without any time frame pressures, as i am well aware of the potential man-hours involved.
i will always enjoy your mods as they are, and any future improvements will be a bonus.
as it is, it's nice to be able to run around on the ground - i find it a very light-hearted and enjoyable new dimension to the game :D

In the first version Malone, you could bail out from a flying aircraft and walk around on land so if you still have that one you could use it for some missions untill Pablo finishes this.

A great mod again mate thank you. I too was wondering something, with this mod or something similar do you think it may be possible in the future to have deployable paratroopers?

I don't mean controllable ones for the player, but paratroops that on landing instead of running and diving, would maybe adopt a firing position or advance a distance then adopt a firing position?

Again just wondering not a request mate.

cheers

In fact a real paratrooper should look and act quite different to a bailed out pilot. But in game they are the same, controlled by the same code.

It can be created something to differentiate the actions. But again: it requires work.

... ???.....wow, not really sure how to answer that.....
that's like you asking me where i live, and i say planet earth.....
would that help you to find me?  :P
you don't seriously install full games onto your desktop, surely?  that is, pardon my french, just silly.
if, what is more likely, the shortcut to the game is on the desktop, then check the properties of the shortcut, and give me the full path, i.e: C:\Games\IL-2 Sturmovik....
how you answer me this time is going to count a lot towards how you are going to be helped at this point, as i get the feeling you are trying to fly before you learnt how to crawl, never mind walk, lol

Title: Re: New Visual MOD 8 (Game Menu + Stereo 3D + RealFollow + Features)
Post by: SAS~Malone on August 15, 2014, 12:47:36 AM
just copy the entire game from the desktop to another folder on your computer, but do it as follows - copy it, NOT cut, to another folder of your choosing (i suggest C:/Games/IL-2 - doesn't really matter, but it must NOT go into Program Files folder)
then, once copied, use the Windows remove/uninstall function to uninstall the one on the desktop. (you do this so that you don't have problems later if you decide to reinstall ;) )
this will not affect the version you have just copied.
once you've done this, you can simply run the game from it's new location.
at this point, you can continue with problem-resolving.
if you still experience a problem, then you now should post up the error log info for us to help check what might be wrong. ;)

Hi Sharkzz,

Re visual mod. From what I understand, you have assigned a key to "Game Menu" in MISC section of the controls. When in game, activate this key for the visual mod menu and the rearm/refuel option is in the "mission" section.

G'day Bergkamp and thank you, rgr, I noticed the choices in the misc. section 1 to 10, and these say only misc. I had set "home"  for number 1(one) misc. do the other misc. choices do anything yet ? as setting  the home button didn't give me the new drop downs in game. I shall populate them all and see what transpires.  :). I was also wandering, as I couldn't see where to place this wonderful mod, in the JSGME  or in the #SAS folder ?.. thanks again for your help m8, I appreciated it.

That is the walking pilot MOD! You can freely move it. When he lies on ground he cannot do anything.

You shoud be using the other MOD which is based on Visual MOD

Is it possible too save the selections you make, so you don't have to redo them next time?
I've searched,  but haven't been able to locate any answer to this.

Fantastic. Did not yet know of the mod. Installed and was very impressed, several features just one click, including exchange of aircraft on the same mission, customize speed bar, views and more options. A  large improvement in terms of gameplay.
Thank you very much.

Ok - I give up. Where is the documentation for this??? I enabled this on C.U.P. and the external view is very cool. How to I enable the menu???
Search results indicate that there is supposed to be some kind of a Readme packaged for this somewhere, do I have to read every 100 or so posts on each thread to find this?

I like this mod and it's possibilities, but there's no "manual" for it, and I'm not telepathic enough to just "know" how to access the menu. What keyboard key(s) does one press to access it?

See under the New Members area, the huge topic. ;)

The coders need more info, thus the need for a logfile excerpt, how to explained in all detail.

Yes I apologize, I know you need a log. But I accidentally deleted it. I will install the mod again and get the log for you :)

How do you start IL2 with this MOD installed but with stereo off.

I want to activate when I need it....
