Yeah... I heard because Iran had some, so the retired planes were all destroyed to keep Iran away from any parts that might help refit their aging planes...  Not sure how true that is... Seems they could just send the parts to China or Russia and have them copied???

It is very true, that's why they all have been shredded. In fact even all the ones in the museums have been "altered" so they can no longer be airworthy.

And the owner of the F-14 legally purchased from the ARMC station for 2 million or so. He leased it out to film companies. You can see it in the first episodes of JAG. He refused to Alter his aircraft as per DOD instructions. stating it would structurally weaken it to much for transport. So the DOD sent an armed repo team to retrieve it. and they cut it up right on the spot and hauled it off.

Yeah that Iran story always sounded fishy to me too, I mean have amarc parts ever shown up anywhere unauthorized, I mean surely they screen those workers pretty well right? If I was a little more tin hat inclined than I currently am I'd say it was to make sure that they never got brought back and the Navy would be stuck with buying F-35 or Super Hornets, just saying it sounds at least the same level of plausible as someone smuggling airframe parts to Iran from the U.S...
