it's a new movie by a south african director, so i am keen to see it - i'm going to watch it tonight. 8)
it has mediocre reviews, so don't expect anything great if you do watch it, but it is the kind of movie i think most of us are at least interested in knowing about...

will report back after watching it... ;)
-
trailer looks not that bad ... ;)
-
apparently some of the CGI scenes are pretty bad, but overall it's a decent movie...
well, this is what i hear prior to seeing it, though... ;)
-
I must say, it is strange seeing Bf-109 Es attacking British B-24s! ;D
Honestly, if you're going to go to the effort of making a film on the subject, how do you end up with COMPLETELY the wrong sort of aircraft?

us guys in the know about these sort of things are generally considered the lunatic fringe, i guess....:D

check out the trailer for Wings of Honour it appears to use the same footage or is maybe the same film.

also pause it a 1:03 I think thats CLOD footage of the Wellington getting hit?

Emils.
RAF liberators.. in maybe 43, late 43 or 44.
Emils.
Will give it a shot when in need for relaxation. :)
Not all Moviemakers are rivetcounters, and its the story that counts.
-
Lol, I see where the terrain looks just like CloD in WOH Trailer.
But with TF Patch the terrain looks much better than that in the Trailer:

Sorry for OT Eugene.

Phas3e , your right ,

Sorry for OT Eugene.

why completely wrong?
It has german guns and german balkenkreuzen.
so it is not "completely" wrong
and it does not even matter!
they could have used Zeroes and i would not have complained.
The Liberator is such an ugly Piece of Machinery, only focussed on function, not at the very tiniest bit on form...
anything that shoots it down gets a silent nod of approval
even Emils.
:P

The only report I know about Bf-109-Es encounters with B-17s is when Swiss Emils had to intercept Flying Fortresses in the Swiss sky...

technicalities aside, it's a war film with planes, and there's just not enough of them around, so kudos to them for giving it a go.
being a local production, i can only imagine the tiny budget they would have had to work with, lol :D
-
oh, and if you don't like the planes, it also apparently has gratuitous sex scene....now who's gonna complain about that, lol...:D
-
I don't like when a war films especially which is about air war are historically incorrect. The moovie makers have the technology to make computer modeled aircrafts, I think the emils and maybe the spitfire were made with computer. I love airplanes, but I also love history, and It's quite bad to see that they won't give you the truth.
There is so few planes exist from that era today, but If the modders here can recall a plane, than why don't the moovie makers spend a little time, to study World War II and make a correct moovie about it.

Tell me about it. :) Even worse with modern jet sims. Very suspicious. :D
I have a good example of a movie with planes setup correctly (AFAIK) and a horrible "for 12 year olds" soapy story line:
Pearl Harbour....good flying scenes and action sequences, rest BS.
Seen it 3-4 times. :-[

i'm a bit of a movie hoarder, i'll admit.
i have a folder just for war movies, and i have pretty much everything i've ever watched in there, good or bad, lol
hard drives are pretty cheap these days, so i just buy another to add more movies to my collection :D
-
Lol Eugene, Im the same way, Iv got most of my fav. War films all in one folder.

You, me and the others like us are the 1%. These movies arent made for us they are made for the common audience member who wouldnt know a 109 from a lancaster.
I used to think along the same lines as you but realised if I nit picked everything I would never enjoy an aircraft movie again.
I have said this before but.. I enjoyed the movie 'Master and Commander' I have no knowledge of Nepoleonic navel warfare, what life was like aboard the ships or what equipment they used, but it doesnt matter because I enjoyed the movie (apart from the odd inclusion of a Charles Darwin type charactor). People who do know about the era complain about it like we do 'Pearl Harbour' which plenty of other people enjoyed.
just leave your fanboi hat at the door and enjoy a good story, its what I try to do.
Also if I ever made an aviation movie I would make sure I have a panning shot of the base and have a crew chief counting rivets on his aircraft just to middle finger the experten :P

If you liked the movie then I can really recommend the book and indeed the whole series of books, they're awesome. Great stories (they focus on two main characters, the Captain played by Russell Crowe and that 'Charles Darwin type character'... he's way more interesting and important in the books) but also enriched by the massive amount of research done by the author (Patrick O'Brian) about both the technical side of sailing/fighting those ships and also the culture of the Navy. Think Hornblower for grownups.
-
well, i've watched it, and in some ways it was better than i expected, although i may be biased because of the local flavor, lol
unfortunately, very little in the line of aerial action, but it's quite entertaining and, to my mind, worth a watch.
the sex scene turned out to be a myth, thankfully - can't have smut spoiling my war movies!
in a nutshell: i've seen better, i've seen worse... :D
3 stars out of 5 on the SAS Cool-o-meter (taking into account my local bias, otherwise it would've been 2)

Master and commander rocks... and Crowe did hios best Job ever in that Story. I love that man for it.
but i like the Books too. they get my Imagination flowing a bit more.

:)
Just for shits and giggles (I do like the actor and think he rocks).

You could kind of compare this movie with the other fairly new WW 2 bomber movie Fortress.
I though the acting was a tad better than the acting in Fortress
Yes two different scenarios Over Germany and Over Italy.
I thought the detail of the B-24 's interior with this movie was much better than the interior of the B-17 in Fortress
( after watching Memphis Belle many times the interior was a let down )
All in all a movie that I did not know about and just got it today.
I think this will be a few watches movie for me.
Another one to add to the war folder too. :D ;)

Well I even enjoyed Red Tails so sure this won't be that bad... ;D ;)
