The English Whitley night bomber was the backbone of Bomber Command in the first 3 years of war, slow, but with a large payload and good range, was the protagonist of the first big night bombing of German cities, withdrew from the front line, continuing his career in Coastal Command and in the roles of trainer, towing gliders and parachutists school.

Thanks, Gio, when I get the various versions of the game sorted out, I'll write a mission for it. I did a quick and dirty one for the Wellesley last night. Bombing a desert airfield full of Italian Bombers in 412.2. It was loosely based on an actual raid.

Thanks a lot for one of these forgotten planes of early WW2, Gio ! Very interesting addition !

I tried it in 4.10 (DBW) and 4.12.

Have noticed a few bugs :

-when rolling on the runway, there is something wrong with the bar of the undercarriage, under each engines : it turns around the wheel... this bug exists in both versions of the game (4.10 and 4.12),
-and in 4.12 only, bombardier, and gunners positions can be switched to, but you see nothing from these positions... in 4.10, these positions seem to work OK.

Has anyone else noticed these bugs ?

the bar you speak of is the fork-shaped piece, or the leg of the carriage, in the first case I thought I deleted it because despite the inaccuracy, its cancellation was solving a positioning problem (for me not solvable) . to solve the root this problem can cancel the piece in Hier.Him by adding "/ / / /" in front of paragraphs GearL3 and GearR3 or adding "Hidden" after the line - Parent WingRIn_D0 and  Parent WingLIn_D0 in the same.
if the cart instead I can not explain and I wait other alerts.

Have noticed a few bugs :

Have noticed that both propellers spin opposite of their pitch angles. The plane also spins
a lot when taxiing, but this is a most welcome plane nonetheless ;) Thank you for creating
this bomber, gio963tto. She looks marvelous. What an excellent surprise!

I think you can get around that by choosing 'select all engines' when ready to take off. I assume you start the engines one at a time, then take off. It's a well known bug across the IL-2 platform.

How is it possible, by changing the Hier.him rotating forks (the pieces GearL3/R3) are indicated invisible?
Maybe I did not understand the problem well revolve also the legs of the cart?

Hello Gio, the new hier files did the trick in fixing the wheel forks, thank you very much. 8)

I am also having gunner problems, they do not show for me in my 4.12.2 with SAS MOdAct 5.3. ???

For one position it is like I am looking at a bulkhead, the others are just Black. :'(

Am I missing something in my install do you think or should they be independent of any existing sim aircraft?

I'm no expert, but I assume that the installation 4:12 modact SAS 5.3, does not contain the Mod that has the basic version of the turret so it will not able to load it through the class, my guess is as ignorant on the subject.

In the 412 version of the game Team D seems to have change some of the parameters of cockpit functions. In the game, turrets are a cockpit class. It seems to have a affect on most none pilot cockpits and many bomb and gun sights.

Don't worry when 413 comes out I am sure they will come up with something else to complicate modding.

For those who do have a turret that works but has the floating above perspective, are you using some kind of increase cockpit view mod? You can open up the turrets him file, find this entry:

and lower the number I made bold to something like this till it works for you:

This is a great Aircraft, slight problem though im running 4.12,2 HSFX 7.01 and although the wellington i have works fine.  My wimpy has no turrets at all, nothing just a green screen...im well and truly perplexed on this one....Oh one last thing, I love the wimpy VII it has more antena than the ruddy RC-135s i work with.

Hello CW, thank you for that, I looked at the turrets inside the mod and could see they were in their own specific folder, however, I did not know whether you had wrote your own classfile or used one from the sim.

I have been having problems getting turrets and especially Bombardier cockpits to work in 4.12, I have to do what you did and name the class and the folder to suit the mod, for some strange reason I find I cannot link it to anything else or I get issues.

I am new to java, so it is all quite baffling to me at the moment, hopefully one day I will understand some of it. :D

You are using the wrong flight model. Open your Whitley Bombers main folder, it will contain a sub-folder named -410-DBWfm.

Open that sub folder up and copy the flight model named Whitley_FM, paste it in the Whitley Bombers' main folder over writing the existing one.

I've got problems getting the markings to show on the MKVII -  Its only got one overwing roundel and nothing else?? 'Markings on' makes no difference - is this normal??

Yes it is normal, plane has no overlay. What is needed is additional skins which I am sure a couple of the talented skinners here are working on.

Benno,

 Both  versions us the same flight model.  I too feel the heavy pull to one side.

With advice from Barnesy we believe we have  isolated the issue. There seems to be a issue with the clips, mostly in the propeller meshes.

As soon as a fix is implemented a update will be released correcting that and a couple other issues.

I was wondering the same. Bombsaway has tested them in both DBW
(410) and 412 and his results are the same as mine in 409, no longer pulls, unless "all engines" is not selected when throttle is applied.

I wonder how many do not have a pulling issue?

There are several factors that may be causing the issue and from what I have found they are all pilot error.

1- When the plane starts out on scramble mission the tail wheel is turned slightly so if you are in cockpit view and lock your tail wheel, the plane will turn to the left. You need to pull the plane forward a bit and the tail wheel will straighten out. Then you can lock it.

2- When you start your engines, after starting the second engine make sure you have hit the key for " Select all engines" or only one will power up and you will pull to one side. You can check to make sure both are powering up by looking at the RPM gauges in the cockpit. Top two center. If both are moving then you have selected both engines.

3- If your throttle is not at zero % when you start a scramble mission and then you back it to zero then start engines, sometimes the game still reads it at a powered throttle and the plane will turn.

4- If you have trim on your stick and it is not zeroed out then that can cause pull as well.

As CWatson said, I tested in both 4.10 and 4.12 and I made the above mistakes at fiirst and then after correcting them, pilot error, the plane, both versions, will take off correctly.

 One of the issues seems to be the angle of the tail wheel when a mission is stared on the ground.
I have altered the classfile so the default  position is strait when mission starts on the ground.

The classfile alteration I did was for the mother class that both share. Neither MkV or MkVII's classfile was  touched, so if one works, both should.

Benno, that crash might be due to Java memory limits. Old versions of modded IL-2 can crash like that when they have a lot of planes installed and then get above Java memory limits while taking screenshots. This can be fixed by either removing some planes or using modern IL-2 version selector ( https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=16403.0 ) that can increase those memory limits and prevent such crashes.

And about the rear and front turret, is there a method to modifiy the default position? When you enter in a turret, you got a grey screen because the view is behind the nose plane. I am not an expert, but the crash of 70% and perhaps a corrupt class, you can groped to reload the class or a new installation, have you checked the FM version, just to be sure that you copy the FM folder of the desired version, anyway UP3 rc4 and led to make these jokes, I have not been able to run the potez540.

I am running ModAct 5.3 with 4.12.2m and the latest buttons file. When I try to use this aircraft in FMB everything is fine until I click on the 'Aircraft' box then half of the box disappears and the game freezes. I remember having the same problem a while back with the Halifax. I would be grateful if anyone could suggest an answer to the problem as reading through this topic no one else seems to be having it. Thanks in advance.

It happens usually when there are duplicates that conflict, or when you exceed the capacity of the calculation of the graphics card.

Hello Everybody !  :)

I am currently working on a campaign based on the operations of 161 squadron for DBW 1.71 with il2 4.101. Using a big variety of planes they were making pick-up of agents (Lysander, Hudson) and mail in occupied Europe and were also making some drops of furnitures and agent (Halifax,Whitley).

No problem with the planes, there are all available and working fine with DBW...But the Halifax and the Whitley has no crates nor paratroopers as weapons ...Can we have the following items :

- Crates
- 1 para

Hello,
I find a 3D bug in the plane aileron (I think).
When I go right, the left aileron go up and the right go down.
And whend I go right the left go down and the right go up.

I think it must be the inverse.

Thank You very much for letting me fly and shoot at this great and important plane!

I wanted to make her feel more finished and fixed these bugs:
- Damage textures are now working
- Center position adjusted for more realistic movement in air and on ground
- Ground collision fixed (_Clip hook positions)
- Aileron animation fixed
- Nose gunner can't damage CF anymore
- Pilot LODs optimized

You can get these fixes at http://koti.mbnet.fi/raukorpi/Whitley_fix.7z (http://koti.mbnet.fi/raukorpi/Whitley_fix.7z).
Unpack these files to the mod folder of this plane so that they replace existing files there.
IMPORTANT: These fixes are now included in new version of PA_Jeronimo's beautiful 3D update in the end of first post in https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,25142.0.html (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,25142.0.html), so I recommend installing it instead as the easy option. If you use old version of PA_Jeronimo's 3D update, then you can get up-to-date version by overwriting some PA_Jeronimo's files with those in "Whitley Bombers\3do\Plane (PA_Jeromino update)\" folder of my update.

I hope you like these fixes.
Please report remaining bugs so that I can try to fix them.

I noticed that PA_Jeronimo added fix for fuel leak and fire hooks while I wrote the previous message. Thus, please redownload my pack to get that fix also if you already downloaded before seeing this post.

PA_Jeronimo has released updated version of his beautiful 3D update in the end of first post in https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,25142.0.html (https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,25142.0.html). It includes all my fixes, so I recommend installing it as the easy option instead of my fix pack.

However, if you already use files in "Whitley Bombers\3do\Plane (PA_Jeromino update)\" folder of my update together with old version of PA_Jeronimo's 3D update, then you already have up-to-date Whitley files and you can skip the new version of PA_Jeronimo's Whitley 3D update.

Hopefully there will be a few revisions later.  I noticed there is a very spiffy Lancaster style cockpit out there that would make a nice replacement for the franken Wellington one that is currently being used.

Let me propose bombing sight fix for 4.12 for Armstrong Withworth Whitley Mk.V / Mk.VII.
Also default US 250lbs and 500lbs bombs were replaced by British 250lbs and 500lbs bombs.

This aircraft looses easily its tailwheel and its tail when using a bad ground for landing or take-off.
