New versions of C-54  - 2.3. (04.06.2014)
1. Change to actual size (In comparison to B-29).
2. Change position nose gear.
3. Change defolt skin in C-54(Multi1)

I dont understand why you are crediting me for the skin, I never painted skins for a C-54.
But whatever you used from other skins or airplanes, I thank you and I hope you like them.

In the future I will paint new skins for this airplane.

Many years back, I and a buddy of mine put many hours in a '54E flying
cargo around the country. The '54 was the best damn transport that
Douglas ever built(I'm a little biased about that). ;D

I see I'm not the only one. Tested in a 4101 and 412 mod install and getting the
same results, game crash at about 20% and the error log squawking about a KC-130.

Hello guys, sorry for the problems with CTD, this aircraft uses modified classfiles from the KC-130 as its base base so you will need that pack. ;)

The C123K also uses the altered classfiles of the KC-130 tanker, sorry, laziness on my part, I should have started with new ones but seeing as they all use the B-29 it seemed logical to use the same files.

I removed the 3d0 folder from a C-130 Pack and renamed it 02_C-130 Class Files,
it loads before the C-54 and I'm now flying the '54 around in a 4101ModAct306 and
a 412ModAct530 install. ;D

So far it's all good, including cargo drop.

Would you happen to have a list of the C130 files that you used for a base?

FYI:

The C-54v2.21 works in 409.

I tested the '54 in a UP201(409) install just for the hell of it and
this bird works as advertised.

Further testing showed that it doesn't matter which of the two folders
(C-130_Class Files & C-54 mod)loads first.

Just drop both folders into whatever mods folder you are using in your
409 install and go fly the '54. 8)

All the 409 guys just got a new bird to play with. ;D

Hello and welcome.

Always look for the "Air.ini" name given to an airplane, that is the name for the skin folder.
Example...

the default skin can't simply be dragged into the skins folder - it's a different format, and will need to be converted into the correct bmp format before it can be used as a skin.
it should be inside the plane/summer folder, tga/tgb format.

Edit: ok I think I have it figured out, but it's kind of f'd up

So, the C-54, based off of the model of the B-29, won't accept any new skins. The only thing that changes are the wings. Much like the no-slot version of the same plane.

Therefore, all the magic is done directly in the "summer" folder. There are two different tga files, I believe. One is the basic white/bland paintjob of the plane, the other is the layered windows on top of it. The two can't go in the same file because the paintjob reuses patches of the same metal from other parts of the plane, so if you try to put windows directly in there they stretch/distort. This also means you can't put in a custom airline paintjob, since the text and stuff would just distort.

I can, however, darken the original paintjob a bit so it isn't as blindingly bright, and I can sharpen the windows up so they look a bit better. Same goes for the An-10.

juct copy it somewhere, rename it tga, and then use that for further editing and final conversion to bmp ;)


oops - forgot to mention - i haven't installed this yet, but sometimes a franken-based plane might actually make use of more than one skin file, which can complicate matters.

if you encounter such an issue, best ask the author if he knows which other files are used for the skin.  ;)

Hello Eugene, yes this aircraft like most of the frankens requires a number of different skin files, hence the reason in making one for the host nation, in this case USA, with a blank Multi1 slot for the others so you can use in game markings.

Normal skin folders are no use here really as they can have the skin mapped in all kinds of strange ways.

If I recall correctly the wing skin for this is in the summer folder and is from the B-29, they are the usual named skin1o.tga etc. with I think the fuselage which is a skin from the C-47 using the files Skin3o outside of the summer folder.

It is all really confusing, especially for me, Alex usually does all the messing about inside the mod. :D

1. Change to actual size (in comparison to B-29).
2. Change position nose gear.
3. Change defolt skin in C-54(Multi1)

This is a quick fix for this C-54.

Remove your old version and replace the folder with these versions.
There are 2 folders.

The airplane-mod folder is at the bottom, the other folder must come on top of it for
this airplane to work properly. It contains important files in it.
Do not mix the files into the same folder and do NOT remove them!

Just leave them as they are, but you can rename the folders to what you use in
your game folder structure.
Just keep one folder on top of the other as I have mine.


This is what I am using in my personal game. Use it if you wish.
ALL credit goes to the creators of this mod-aircraft.

The light flickering problems reflecting off its fuselage have been fixed by
normalizing ALL the values written in the files and their light paragram values.

New skins also added to have a more harmonious color and tone in the entire aircraft metal finish.
The USA version has the early type of roundel on its sides because it also uses the
same roundel on its wings when you select for "markings".
The Multi version contains no roundels, only an all bare-metal finish.
The roundels may be selected from the main menu in the game before you fly the airplane.

I left the cockpit skins as they were.
If you wish to change these colors, go look inside my DC-3 airline , or the C-47 ,
skin retextures for the cockpit and you will see a new set of skins which you can also use in this airplane.
The tires are still a little square looking, but may be fixed later on when I have the time.

I forgot to mention,
this airplane does need a new skin-template for more realistic skins, but that will have to wait.
At the present moment it uses parts from 4 different airplanes !...
... A B-29, a B-17, a C-47 and some other unknown aircraft. It is really a Frankenplane.  ;D But it is better than nothing !
So enjoy it ! We have no other C-54.

Sorry I had to put the entire airplane files into this download, because after changing so many files I lost
track of what was changed and what remained the same  :P  So I put everything into one package download.
Just delete the old version and replace with these new files and skins.

If anyone wants to paint skins for this cool airplane, you will need 3 different skin-template... B-29, B-17G and a C-47 skin-templates.
B-29 - for Main wings and rear wings part (top and bottom)... also the wheels.
C-47 - for Fuselage and tail part
B-17G -for Engines parts

Look at the skin files inside using Photoshop or Gimp and you will see right away which files belong to what skin-template  ;)
It is a little trick but that is how it will be done.

That aluminum skin looks fantastic Max and suits Bison_M's excellent C-54 to a tee.

 Having done a few franken skins myself I know it's no easy task lining everything up and keeping it looking real.
