Title: Fix Cockpits
Post by: PA_Jeronimo on October 07, 2014, 11:06:03 AM
This is a Mod I started with a request for SAS ~ Tom2 cockpit of the P-38, the result can be found here: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,42511.0.html

Although there was never modified cockpits always thought that this simulator was needed to improve that aspect, since this is the most used view.

I will not have to make big changes in the cockpits, just soften the lines and make it more pleasing to the eye.

Here I will publish models to be modified. The first of the list, as in the Mod is F4U Engines.

This modification, though small enough add more polygons, which also left the previous one if more modest equipment produces a drop in FPS.

thank you very much!  :)

Your "Corsair & F4U New Ball's" mod run's great in 4.10 & DBW too!  8)

Your P-51 mod runs in 4.10 & DBW too but only with these aircrafts:

P-51A
P-51B-NA
P-51B-10NA
P-51C-NT
Mustang Mk.III

I'm working on it to get to run the 20's, 25NA and 30NA too for 4.10 & DBW...!

Thank you Jero for all your hard work. Unfortunately the fixes aren't working on my installation. I am in need of some help please. I am running IL-2 1946 4.12.2 + SAS Modact 5.3 and have placed the corsair and mustang cockpit fix mods into my SAS folder, but when I run the game the fixes aren't applied. I have changed the folder names to make sure they load before any other mods for the corsairs and mustangs but that has not worked. Any suggestions as to what I may have to do to enjoy these great looking mods. I greatly appreciate it, thank you.

Do you have any other Corsair and mustang mods in your #SAS directory?

or maybe wrong folder depth? it should be:
#SAS/whatever-name-you-gave-this-mod/3do/cockpit/F4U-1 and F4U-1A
#SAS/whatever-name-you-gave-this-mod/3do/cockpit/P-51xxx folders

in the end your log may help:

Yes, I have the late corsairs SAS mod pack, as well as the early p-51 mustang pack, AAA P-51 mustang pack, and the K-14 reticles mod, birdcage corsair mod. I have made sure that the new cockpits load before these other mods and I don't think that it's a folder depth issue. I will take a look at the log and get back to you.  Thank you.

I have inserted the log code from loading a quick mission using the P-51D with the cockpit fix mod loading before any other P-51 Mustang mod. It cites a couple of external errors but I don't know what they are referring to. Hopefully someone can interpret the code and help me out. It is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Do you have any other Corsair and mustang mods in your #SAS directory?

or maybe wrong folder depth? it should be:
#SAS/whatever-name-you-gave-this-mod/3do/cockpit/F4U-1 and F4U-1A
#SAS/whatever-name-you-gave-this-mod/3do/cockpit/P-51xxx folders

in the end your log may help:

No, I also tested it as it was WIP and confirm the P-51D mod worked neither in 4.09m nor DBW nor ModAct 5.3 for me.

Must be a classfiles or coding issue as master Jero works on HSFX 7. ;)
Title: Re: Fix Cockpits
Post by: PA_Jeronimo on October 11, 2014, 02:04:09 PM
Perhaps the folders name problem, it might be different in the Mod or another installation.

Test, with the P-51B, for example, reaches up to the Body, Front and Pricel files of this  Mod, copy them directly about their Mod of the P-51, Mod-P-51/3do/Cockpit/P-51B, be sure to make a backup of the Mod, and now check if it works.

Files I modified in this Mod are, so far, identical for all installations, so I think that the problem may be a different folder name.

Grateful to communicate here the results, thank you.

Regards

Jero.

Just a note:
I was wrong on my reply to Gerhard/Gerax, partially. :D

I do get your work to work Jero, in my installs, the thing that did not work properly was the P-51 cockpits, I could not get the full P-51D suit as for opening canopy AND smoothed edges, like I told in pre-tests.

The mod works! A good trick would be renaming it e.g. #_name of mod or !_name of mod, so it definately gets loaded first before other pit mods.
Will test the latest version now once in 2 installs. ;)

OK:
ModAct 5.3, 4.12.2  ;) (as if that was not obvious=MA 5.3=4.12.2)

The P-51D pits have the new meshes, but miss the mirror, and canopies won't open.

In DBW 1.71, 4.10.1m...

The P-51D-Early and -D-NT, 1944 show no cockpit at all, I get this error log:

All other cockpits in DBW seemed to show the default pits. :-\

To me that says that maybe indeed it is best if you extract your entire cockpit used and apply the files in that, to make sure there is no mix up.
When I tried to mix e.g. F_Red's old P-51 cockpits with other mods for the early Mustang's pits, similar issues,
I assume for pits there is a danger of incompability if Mesh files are used. :-\ Make that double  :-\ as I'm not sure.

I assume or am quite sure that if there is a mesh file entry which loads before another pit of the same type with a conflicting mesh or hier.him entry, such things occour?

In any case all Corsair and P-51B/C cockpits worked in all installs, a noted imcompability would be Freddy's old P-51B/C pits as they use a different mesh setting, with combined meshes.

Hope that helped a bit, to sum up:
..if named properly, only the P-51Ds so far (in my installs of course) are problematic, rest ok.

PS:
Jeronimo, I totally forgot:
If you use a mirror mesh file and this file needs assisting tgas and mat files in the original pit, the cockpit will not load as intended and produce an error:

See also a thread I made in the Beta section where SAS~GJE52 replied. I did not know this but mirrors also need more than only assisting mesh files, also tgas not even mentioned in the hier.him other than mirror.tga andfor them also mat files. :o :D
Confusing stuff!  :D :)
Cheers mate..

For the late-corsair-pack: installed, Jeros fix works like a charm.
For the early p-51 mustang pack: wich one do you use?
Please give me a link.

For the AAA P-51 mustang pack
(I downloaded and tried this here:

I made a little fix as addition to Jeros mod, please dl the 7z file
in the attachment and try (and report what I did wrong.  ;D ).
Readme is included.  ;)

confirm, if you use Freddy´s pits for the Ponies, the new meshes do not work of course...but Freddy´s pits are still quite nice so that´s not a show stopper :)

btw, is there any chance to have this one included in the new Corsair meshes?

Yayy! I`m sure many people would like to fly F-80s/T-33s with new cockpits! And these textures I found are better than the stock ones for sure! One more question regarding jets if I may: are you planning to update the F-84 cockpit perhaps? It is the only jet remaining which doesn`t have smooth cockpit, and it really could use some face lift... Cromhunt did awesome textures for it also...

Cromhunt had a prob with the tgas, today I sent him the link to the SAS IMF viewer, that may help.
Of course it is his good right to do or not do whatever crom wishes.
But we all know he does good work.

Anyway, almost 100% converted prop man here. Excwept for Mig-21s and if someone makes an F-5 or F-104.
I think for the latter types of planes DCS will do in case I make 2015 lol. :D

Thanks for the reply! There was a repaint done back in 2012, https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,30387.0.html. If Body.msh series Yak same,is it possible to make a Blister.msh to move the lamp in this fashion - https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,2946.0.html ?

This mod only includes the Yak-1, but I can look.

Please, could you work on Hurricane canopy? (Secondarily, A6M, Ki-43-II and N1K would benefit from your work too).

Hi GB,

I have all the models in the list even if I'm honest the list is very long, maybe too much.   :(

Ok Boyan, there goes the ShootingStar.

Today I revised, new balls, new seat, etc ...

I am on DBW1.71 and happened to see an issue with the antenna in the MiG-3 and also the top part of canopy frame is not curved which is clearly visible in shadowed part.
With modded MiG-3U (beta) no antenna at all by the way.

Hi Uufflakke,

I had this problem, Jer's mod needs to be applied over (i.e. before in Mods folder sequence) the Mig 3 cockpits from HSFX7 (yes they need to be the HSFX ones) and I also had a conflict with 'Russian gauges' mod so delete the Mig3 folder from this mod as well, if you are using it.

Okay, thanks PA_Willy and Marcost.
Before posting I read and reread the 1st post but overlooked the line "This Mod is tested with 4.12 and HSFX, the textures are those that come with this version."
Then I'm afraid I have to skip this mod.

YEAAAAAAAAAA!!! Thank you very very much mr. Jeronimo!! What a difference! Works perfectly for YP-80. The F-80 pack has YP-80N cockpit folder, so it has to be created in order to work for F-80s. Also, Body.msh has to be duplicated and named Canopy.msh for upper frame to show up on F-80s. There is only one glitch, when opening the canopy, all of the canopy with front panel goes backward, its kinda funny... T-33 also works! Thank you again Jeronimo!

Hello Jeronimo! :)
I want to thank you especially for the Yak/MiG family cockpits fixes - I want to make a mod that will retexture them in the best way (much better that Magnas' textures, but I'm also not an author...)
Can I also ask you for doing the same you did for the La(GG), I-16, IL-2 planes, please?

Ok, the Yak skins runs in "4.10 & DBW" too - without the Yak-7 UTI (the trainer cockpit - no wondering)!

If you have installed the amazing "Yak-1 mod" done by Red_Fox90... (hello R.F. my good friend):

Copy the "Yak-1(Fairing)" folder from Jeros mod. Open Red_Fox's Yak-1 mod\ 3do\ Cockpit and rename

the folder to "Yak-1(Fairing)" to "-Yak-1(Fairing)_orig".

Now paste the "Yak-1(Fairing)" from Jeros mod in Red_Fox90's mod and all is done.

Awww  :(... I knew there was something fishy about it... Thanks anyway! The skin looks kinda HDish, maybe because of rivets that stand out... Good pic though.

CP Fix for members using the L-139, L-159 Aeros.
Nothing more than the F-80 fix in correct cp folders.  ;)
To have the L-39 cp fixed install Jeros
F-80 cp fix from first post.

Dl the attached 7z file, unzip and install it BEFORE this planes.

As stated by BOYAN, Crazy's pack has a folder named YP80-N (3do/cockpits), so I renamed the folder that came with Jero's fix accordingly. (Jero's cockpit folder YP-80) and all looks ok without any further alteration or copying body mesh. Canopy opens normally without the front panel going backwards.

I don't know if this fix was supposed to apply to the F80-A, C and N variants but I made copies of the YP-80N cockpit folder in Crazy's pack, renamed them and made corresponding copies of Jero's YP-80 folder. The F80's (A, C and N) all now have the fixes applied with no probs.

BK is right. Make by yourself your personal bundle.  :)
DL the stuff, do good old "try and error" method with whatever
installed modded games version with whatever installed mods you have
until you have it working. For errors come back here and report.  ;)

And this is true for all others here who wait for a bundle.
Do it. And don't wait.

I created my own folder for the new 3d pit fixes by Jero and add all updates in that one folder then;
and to be honest, I did not have a probem with those fixes yet in my DBW install; I do not use the Mig-3 folder as I have the updated pit for that bird and I miss the Corsair hood 3d fix but those Corsair balls are just to good looking to not use them;
the F-80 fixes work just as great, provided you also create a YP-80N folder and copy all the YP-80 stuff into it; and make sure to load all the fixes BEFORE any other 3d fixes;

As expected -as these 3D fixes are meant for 4.12 and HSFX - there are some issues in DBW 1.71 with the I-16:

I-16 Type 10/I-16 Type 17/I-16 Type 29 --> still old cockpit
I-16 Type 18/I-16 Type 24/I-16 Type 27/I-16 Type 28 --> issue with canopy frame
I-16 Type 24 (SPB) --> mission loads up to 100% but only blue landscape and clouds visible and not able to play the game

Just to let you DBW players know.  ;)

Good news though: I-16 Type 5/I-16 Type 5 (SPB)/I-16 Type 6 work fine.

first of all, thank you very very much for your ongoing support and release of new stuff! looks wonderful, especially the Corsair pit :)

Thanks Uufflakke, am has see if I can fix it.

That would be more than great.  8)
The I-16 turned out to be one of my most favourite planes. (The lack of this little plane, plus a couple of other issues of course, are the main reasons BOS is not on my wish list. Santa Claus can pass my house with it's DVD. But that is another discussion  ;)).
You won't here me complaining if you can not solve it or don't have time to fix it. 'Cause these 3D fixes are meant basically for 4.12 and HSFX as stated in your original post.

As mentioned before I agree 100% with the line 'we (and I mean the whole IL-2 community) have to thank you for all the efforts you put into this wonderful mods so much people enjoy.'

Hi Jeronimo - thank you again for these great mods.  The improvement is splendid overall but especially noticeable among the old cockpits like the Yaks, MiGs and I-16s.

Gerhard

bomberkiller - thank you for the tip above, although I'd like to point out that if one just copy the Body.msh (and rename to Body_49.msh) from the Jero's Yak-1 fairing folder into Red_Fox's cockpit mod one would lose the cosmetic improvement that Red_Fox made below - although you would still get Jero's improvements on the smoothed instruments.  So there is a trade-off.

Many thanks to all!

Just becouse I'm a lazy bastard?? hahaha just kidding... I see your point, Ciao

I think your joke is a bit too harsh. If you look at my specs, you can see how old is my rig. Taking in account that I overloaded my IL-2 install (in addition to UP2.01) with 44 mods (for a total of 4.64 GB), you may understand how loading of my game currently requires 4 (four) minutes! I must make some choice. Since I can't watch, e.g., Corsair cockpit that I never fly in game... why to load?

Hope I make myself understood.

Hey Greybeard I've been around SAS since it's beginning, what I asked for was another opportunity so to have the choice between single installs and a bundle one, I see your point, I've just moved from an old sony vaio sgn that took some 6 minutes to load my 18gb of mods...... :) not harsh intended then....ciao

Hello again! :)
Did you see this msg?

Thank you very much Epervier. ;)

Well I have already solved the problem of the cockpit of the I-16 in the DBW version, now comes another question, I have seen that the new 3d model works in this version with some minimal changes, I have also made the improvement on the old 3d model, so I leave them both and each decide which you want to use. :)

This Mod of I-16 DBW is tested with 4.10.1 and UP3, the textures are those that come with this version.

To derail this valuable thread a last time, and since I spent quite some time researching for this pit for Jero and cromhunt, I add a stand in mod here for the crazyflak F-80 mod, a pit with my interpretation of the mirror position and all files with hier.hims etc.

Optimum would be if someone also uploaded the HSFX F-80 hier.him, for the mirror, and also the HSFX mirror tga and mat/mesh files.

Cheers

https://www.mediafire.com/download/grf8rfgr1y5jeh3/!_F-80pit!.rar

Reflection is my interpretation, former F4U one IIRC, Jero's in as backup.

The real mirror, and I found only one shot for the F-80 inside and outside, was here:
(http://s20.postimg.cc/6vnw0pnpl/P_80_A_Canopy_closeup.jpg) (http://postimg.cc/image/6vnw0pnpl/)

For the T-33s, a totally different story, different coloured pit for some versions (grey) and more red on the sides. Also mirrors, if there, on sides rather.

In any case, no mirror was mounted on the canopy sliding part, but the front arc.

The seats where not green but red on most shots, so my default Freddy pit seat included here (credit to Freddy) is correct.

Got some 100+ photos. :P

For my feeling this is the best cockpit ever done in default IL2. Together with the Typhoon and I-250 by the way.

Nice work, thank you! 8) But ... in fact, visor the cockpit canopy of similar shape (rounded top) ...
Yak-1-3-7 & 9

AFTER

... was only the Yak-1:

On all other Yak (including Yak-1B) visor the cockpit canopy had another, trapezoidal, shape:

Similar to such as the Yak-9U(T) in game:

Whether it is possible to fix something? :-\ Thx.

Hi DeSad,

I'm not an expert on this subject and only I've limited to soften such models as they came in the Sim, but now looking at some pages I can see some examples,

This is a Yak-3 if you observe will check that no crossbar, there is as it is in the sim.

http://waralbum.ru/29278/
http://waralbum.ru/56650/

The Yak-7

http://www.warbirdphotographs.com/VVS1/Yak-7-2.jpg

The Yak-1B appears as you said, as the Yak-9U

http://waralbum.ru/87258/

In the Yak-9 again you have reason.

http://i.hdwp.ru/f/7d87/8/c83dac253e.jpg

It could be modified, only it would be to Exchange that area in the 3d models and ready.

I, of course, had in mind only the Yak, which has visor the cockpit canopy. Since the Yak-3 it is not, I haven't mentioned it specifically. I apologize for the fact that inadvertently you astray :-[

The Yak-7 ...
Oh, I forgot all about the Yak-7 ... probably because he was not one of my favorites :-\ It visor the cockpit canopy indeed the same as that of the Yak-1. And this is natural, because Yak-7 - is the modernization of UTI-26, trainer version of the Yak-1.

As a result, I am inclined to think that, if the mirrors are present and in the drawings, and - especially - the technical data sheet, it should be taken as a guide. And in combat units could dismantle the mirror for any reason. Eventually, the game mirrors can also be disabled with a hotkey ;)

(http://s27.postimg.cc/srs7yam77/Yak3_not_rounded_Canopy.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)

Instead, Yak-3R shows more roundnesses, but canopy frame still keeps some corner:

(http://s12.postimg.cc/kurcb1tpp/Yak3_R_soandso_rounded_Canopy.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)

From a quick investigation, I saw there's some conflict with "POV_Mod_Complete_SAS_v2" about a file called Body.msh. Also, I don't see in your mod a folder named just "Yak-3", but I don't know if this variant picks stuff from other ones.

Environment is 4.09m+UP2.01.

Thanks for any help.

P.S.: SOLVED! It was a matter of priority: I put a "!" in front of folder name (i.e.: "!Fix_Yaks_Cockpits", inside the "Mods" folder) and now all the beautiful "curves" are visible! ;D

The "POV_Mod_Complete_SAS_v2" seems not badly affected.

Hi Greybeard,

The Body.msh file is the file that refers to the interior of the cockpit, not what I mean, and also includes hooks for views. Logically the POV_Mod modify these last, or hooks, which conflicts with the Fix_Cockpits. When charging is in last place that conflict disappears, but I have quite clear that the POV_Mod will work the same way, unless you use the same hooks.

Regarding the Yak-3, the folder Yak-3R is referred to the Yak-3.

Best Regards

Jero. ;)

Hi Jero,

I would take this occasion to thank you very much for this great improvement to IL-2. In game your "rounded" canopy frames look even better than in pictures you previously posted! The sharp rendering of curved lines was from ever one of the main things which killed realism in computer simulation, I think. In addition, cockpit is obviously what player more often watch, and canopy even more: I think a special attention should be payed to all this. Last but not least, I noticed these mods are nicely little in size, so easy to manage: I downloaded them all!

Best regards,
GB

Jeronimo, don't be discouraged. These cockpit refinements are revolutionary to IL-2 1946 and really modernise it. In a flight sim one is always in the cockpit.

PA_Jeronimo, this is just one of the credits to you from the CFM Manual:

"PA_Jeronimo 3D Cockpit Fixes
In addition to the massive Engine, Wheels and Cowling fixes: the Cockpit improvements have
massively upgraded Il2/1946 and CFM. The sim 3D now looks a lot more up to date with the rough
edges ironed off inside as well as outside. This work is of great importance in enhancing the sim and
very much appreciated by every Il2/1946 (Mods) pilot."

That expresses what we all think about your free gifts to us all.
We, who benefit from the work You and others have done, often neglect posting our thanks but we are thankful.

Sir Jero, Please do not feel discouraged. I'm sure everyone will agree that your mods are some of the most valuable and most needed upgrades to our beloved IL-2!  :)

Through your beautiful cowlings, spinners, wheels and now your amazingly beautiful cockpits, you have updated IL-2 to a visual level we never thought would be possible.

We all thank you for your great contributions and hopefully we will see more of your amazing work!  :)

Will there be further development mod's?

I don't know, I've been a time without much encouragement. :(

I got in somewhat late to the "IL2 with mods" party (nearly a decade away from combat flight sims) and, I have to say, one thing (among others) that I always thought about IL2 is that it deserves (a lot) better cockpits.

Allow me to extend a bit here (hopefully not too boring :-[ )...

I recently had a go with Histomod (IES), and while the few new ultra-detailed cockpits in it are really, really good (for sure!), they can be an absolute resource hog, with framerates plummeting, sometimes to unbearable framerates (unplayable for me).
IMO, it means that all that great effort (must have been) results in something less than ideal, not being well optimized. The trade off can be too big at times (and not acceptable IMO).

I honestly think you have hit the "sweet spot", if that makes sense.
I tried all of your fixes posted in this thread and I have thoroughly enjoyed myself with every single one.
They look great, and do exactly as advertised. On top of that, they still deliver super nice framerate (i.e, have your cake and eat it!).
That is the kind of dedicated work I would expect from a top modder - good, positive results, without bringing any bad, negative trade-offs.

IMHO -and hopefully not overstaying my welcome now- the only things I would dare saying that are "must try" for any new cockpits, from whoever wants to do them for IL2 (be it "refresh" or "all-new" works), are noticeable improvements in canopy glass reflection effects (we've seen some), and better texturing by using fake-shadowing techniques, in panels, dash, etc (since there is no self-shadowing cockpits feature in IL2).
Very tricky and not easy, I now. But these things are so much more effective than any exaggerated million-polygons 3d model, not just in eye-candy but performance as well (which is vital for this genre).

I sincerely hope you find encouragement to pick up and do more "fixes" for cockpits (doing them all is maybe asking too much!).
These are a much needed refresh to IL2's cockpits and, I believe, your work is perhaps more well regarded than you initially thought. :)

But, I would also beg Jero not to maroon us without most part of cockpits not "rounded"; I appreciated also ground objects, but seldom I watch them at less than hundred meters, while my cockpit and canopy frames are constantly at a few centimetres...

Wonderful looking gunsights.  If I can make a suggestion, the rear headrest on the Polikarpovs are very blocky.   It would be great if these were more rounded.  I know I have to spend a lot of time watching my six in these birds and it would improve the experience considerably!

hi there!
I tried Yak-9 new cockpit mod and appreciated it very much, indeed!
new shapes, new realism and open canopy that I love!

anyway, I cannot activate the other yaks ones (yak-3, -7, -9d/t/k/u...)
does someone could help me?

why among the mentioned mods, just yak-9 is working?
I had installed previously Manga's yaks cockpit mods, maybe there's a conflict with them or other mods?

thank you so much!

I have just to uninstall by Jsgme or remove them from the mods directory?
I ask it because Yak-9 mod is working even if not installed with jsgme (I tried to install the others by mod enabler but the result is the same..)

thanks!

No need to delete anything, if you have it in the Mods folder only reputable file by placing a - front, this mod will no longer work until you do not remove this script.

In the JSGME only you have to turn it off.

Luck. ;)

just another word... amongst the cockpit wich sould be refreshed, those of the P-39 and P-40 familly are also on the list cos they're very 'angular'.
If you can do that, be sure it'll be greatly appreciated.
Japanese plane are still welcome, for sure (I'm waiting that someone repaint the cockpit of the Ki-44 of the late version with the HUD gunsight instead of the tubular one)

These cockpit fixes are some of the most important I have seen for immediate visual improvement in the sim as most spend majority of their time in the pit while flying the game.

One set of planes that would enjoy this great effort are the Spitfire pits.  Looking fwd to the next update in this arena.

I hope she is on your list  :-\\
Avengers
Worst is not 3-D related, but completely fracked up current POV setting.
Pilot is too low, even if seated up, wings too high and cowling missing from
highest POV. I've sighted wartime footages and saw some Avengers had torpedo aim
markings painted on the top of the cowl, also the head position was completely
different in real from what we have. Some Pilots raised their heads and nearly shook the canopy so
high seating, that was to look over the long cowl on torpedo runs, non-catapult starts and landings.

(http://s11.postimg.cc/io4klg4v7/3_117.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)

Will see if I can raise and shake things until someone skilled takes over.
I'm trying myself to resolve without 3-D, just tinkering, but I'm no expert.

Kind Regards
Tobias

Hi Tobias.

I'm not an expert  :(, but by modifying the file here I got this:

As you can see the pilot it has high position (now fleet on the seat  ;D) but wings are poorly with respect to the skin of the aircraft.

Best Regards,

Jero. ;)

Post by: Knochenlutscher on October 21, 2015, 08:27:00 AM
Thanks for your attention Mate, excuse me Jero, I meant only POV in cockpit view.
My drawing in first post estimates the current position of things as you see them in Cockpit and needed moves to corrections.
Outside it's alright. When you switch inside, the Wings are at a freaky level, while the cowling is missing completely.
A new POV managment, would change things positively. Only 3-D part that needs overhaul is the Canopy frame, rail/ w. two parts canopy
and chair, needs armrest, maybe a bit fitting...  :-[
As for the possible I'm overasked.

Outside view is OK, the discrepancy is in Cockpit view.  :-\\
Watch the wingroot here. Current shortcoming. It's my high raised POV, so way higher than yours.
(http://s15.postimg.cc/q28l0kct7/20_10_2015_17_00_46.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)

2 from our 3 POVs are fine.
-POV default is OK, relaxed fit position,
-POV Gunsight AIM is debattable, but still OK.
-POV high - Problem high up position I mean the seats up POV, spring lifted seat raising, I viewed wartime stills, look at #1 below, he sits raised,
could they lift the seat? Think yes, traced a spring attached behind a Museum kite. I saw this in torpedo excersises and Landing patterns the usual seated high position.
It gives a better forward-down visibillity around the cowling. A feeling I miss in current high POV.
Default and Aim are rather natural, but high is weirdo.

sth POV like that, look at the framing, wingroots, impression...

Our current high POV has Players head turned up towards sky.
Angle must be further down, to imitate a natural move/position.
Before
(http://s17.postimg.cc/65o0m6l5b/16_10_2015_7_19_20.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)
After
(http://s14.postimg.cc/v9rvsxeg1/20_10_2015_22_41_36.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)

Relaxed (stock POV) is looking below vertical frame, high up/raised seat is looking over it and around forward
cowling, you can have a good forward visibillity then, with wingroots partially in the outer
perimeter of view, and sufficent, but not sophisticated sky/upward look.

Best galery I could find of a pit. Good Avenger resource, especially the Canopy framing and inside view, chair is rest-less version.

Hint, Hint, gives as precise seatings for relaxed POV and appearance.

Seat mechanism:

The Avenger seat, please note the Armrests and spring attached. Yellow lever at right side of the seat below is seat lever!

Another thing, the upper canopy rail we have missing, see the original.

#2 relaxed seat Avenger position

To have it something like this, maybe? A simple rail makes things better. Photoshoppe...
(http://s16.postimg.cc/c5s2tznmt/avenger_pit_2.jpg) (http://postimage.org/)

During skinning and flying the Turkey I felt in love with it, it's such a beautifull plane.

Thanks Jero for taking your time, if you have hints, please feel free.
Wishing you all the best
Tobias

P51s from AAA UI 1.2

A small note for P-51D-20NT

inside Archive P-51_Cockpit´s_Fix.7z
find folder Cockpit/P-51D-20NT(K14)

Cough...Mike, in case you read this.. :D I know you like the F6F...personally,  a plane I rarely fly, do not like the physics sooo much as with many IL-2 single engine props. If you would like t o add a tad of your Jugs reloaded magic there :P, I would go and add a better mirror to the pit, canopy reflection changed and a few other tidbits.
Frankly, I like the plane, but for the default Fm I would not invest work.  :-|
The only plane where I did that was the Stang family...I hate their stock FMs but these are my fav single engine props.

Cheers

Thorst. :P

PS: Of course this was menat a tad humurous, atm I am in the P-51B and I was half joking.
Glad the F6F was uploaded again, thanks for that. :P

You should try Aaken's FM for this bird. You will love it. I hated Hellcat in a past, because with its default FM, the plane behaved in the air like a toy for noobs. The situation has changed when I tried HSFX. Aaken's FM makes a difference (e.g. you can even put the plane into a spin).

Thank you very much !
But...
In your screen we see that the canopy is of the "bubble" type.
But the P-51C has a different canopy.
For a very long time an error has been made with these planes. They do not have a suitable cockpit for them ... unless I missed an update!
The 3D view cockpit is not suited to the external view.

... yep, in fact the bubble canopy, or "Malcolm hood" was adopted by the RAF because they found the original hinged cockpit canopy offered too poor a view for European operations ...

http://www.aerofiles.com/malcolm-hood.html

This later gave birth to the D type, that, surprisingly didn't provide a better all round view ...

By the way, B and C types were the same plane, but produced by 2 different makers ...

B types were built at Inglewood, California, and C types were built at North American's Dallas, Texas.

The RAF named these models Mustang Mk III.

So, the American first versions had an hinged cockpit (see Epervier's screen), and the RAF (Mustang III) version soon was modified with the Malcolm bubble canopy ...  ;)
