Well, groundspeed seems about all right... just... it reaches only 15 000 m :D :D :D

...what about giving it Su-25's pit with radar from MiG-21?

Bison,

You rock... you must have clones to help you with all your projects... You may want to get in touch with Monty so that maybe he can incorporate your other projects with the upcoming "CFM".

WHY wasn't this in CUP? This plane is one of the hottest AI opponents in the stable, and always performs flawlessly, from startup, taxi/takeoff - fires its missiles, uses its guns, strafes/bombs, lands and taxis to parklng, with any loadout and full fuel. Along with the MiG19S and the Nanchang Q-5, plus the FT-6, the deadliest and most reliable in the FMB environment as Red aggressor jets in IL2 for the F-18 and friends.. I'm a little miffed some of the other bugged jets were included before their issues were resolved, I forsee a lot of posts about CTDs and other issues.

Oh yes and BTW, after my first flight in virgin, freshly installed JTW CUP, I immediately exited and added the MiG25R pronto, from whence this screenshot originated. Let the games resume..

Now, let koty speak. Guns - for MiG-25 no guns. at all. Missiles - you should ask maybe Ranwers if he has yet the R-40 (for MiG-31).

Just to remind you guys on some mathematics:
The MiG-25 runs a top speed of Mach 3.2 at altitude.
The G limit with full tanks and weapons according to flight manual is 2.2G.
The diameter of a 180° turn at full speed hence would be about 86km.
Compare this to the map sizes of IL-2: http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Knowledge_Base&op=show&kid=556
Many maps won't even allow to turn around on them once...

Maybe this is worth considering when crying for all those fancy Mach-Something-Aircraft in IL-2 in future ;)

Best regards - Mike

Cheers Mike. The theoretical speed is M=3,2. Maximum allowed is around 2,6, from 2,8 there goes overheating, overRPM-ing and overpressurising of engine. Plus, the G limit (but it might be of an empty plane, if your source is trustworthy) is said to be 4 G (max allowed) with 6 G where the deformation starts to 8 G leading to breaking off the wings.

The plane in combat use gets to maximum speed only at straigh path - like recon pass or intercepting engagement (but it speeds up by 600km/h in a minute). In normal flight it should fly no more than ... M=1,5.

EDIT: Oh, my mistake, it could sustain 12 g's, but that meant that airframe was really badly damaged.

Maybe you didn't get the core message:
IL-2 maps aren't big enough for that type of jets. Period.

It's nice to hear that the airframe could theoretically withstand 12G just to be thrown away afterwards and it's also nice to know that it could withstand 4G constantly.
You just didn't read what I was referring to: Full fuel load plus weapons.
In that case it's 2.2G only. Who cares what it can do empty?

And even if it could turn around at 4G, this would be a 47km diameter turn at top speed, which would take the plane 2½ minutes to go, with 4G all the time... not that far from what the pilot will be able to tolerate.

It speeds up at 600km/h per minute?
Let's calculate that.
We start out at M=1,5 and try to accellerate to top speed of M=3,2.
At the given accelleration of 600km/h per minute this would take about 3 minutes.
Did you consider the fact that during this time, the aircraft will travel a distance of nearly 130km?
Once again you cross most of IL-2 maps even before you reach your top speed from "max cruise" speed...

Best regards - Mike

That's what I dislike as well - we have this nice jets but nobody cares about the maps... and if there are some, it's a scale-down...
(And just so you know - 2.2G is official limit. There is always 50 % more to go...)

But for example the "black sea" map (merged crimea and kuban) is more than 500 km wide... but has short RWYs - fully armed MiG-25 needs almost 1,5 km to take off, 800 m to brake down with dragchute (but conscider, that it does not touch the ground exactly at the beginning of RWY... (yes, default IL-2 long RWY's have 1600 m, or so.

...so yeah, we would need a set of maps - really huge maps... conscidering the use of 25's, maybe some sinai-area map with 1000/1000 km... but then again - It's so much work :(

Currently the "workaround" is that most jets accellerate rocket-style and turn @20G or more.
That's why I keep saying: Respect the game's limits ;)

That is, why I am glad that I have this pretty monography about MiG-25/31 with a really detailed performance table for (at least) the -25RB version...

In stead of the thing with game limits... I'd rather say, that doing jets needs a lot of precissity and calmness.

But yeah, this 1000km limitation is the worst problem, regarding the jets...

So, I did something to a very old franken plane....

The original mod uses the FM of the Mig19. I was wondering if you could push the speed by very simply means and you can. So here's my FM add-on on steroids

https://www.mediafire.com/file/5e8vrcipt7jvdez/0plane_Mig25_FM.zip

It's simply a beefed up engine model with enough thrust to accelerate to about 2100km/h @9000m
I did nothing else to the FM but now you can feel the need for speed :D

tested in BAT JTW, which already contains the original Mig-25 mod.

Simply awesome ! I out ran two Nike missiles twice in a repeat of the same mission and shot down 1 of Two F-5Es while running from the Nikes. They , the Nikes exploded a distance from my exhaust fumes. I have to upgrade my backups of the MiG-25. Thanks for your work and time. Using 412.2m.

The link to 'vampires' FM mod is dead, I did contact him about it.
Unfortunately I have to tell you that I do not have a copy of this mod anymore and it seems to have vanished from my mediafire... maybe my fault, I have no idea. I couldn't find it on my drive anymore either.
Would anyone have a copy of this new FM and be willing to share it?

Thanks in advance,
Bwf.
