Hey there!
Problem: The sound is okay, but the flyby in CUP seems to be a stock sound. I can barely hear it and it sounds like from vanilla 4.12.2. For immersions sake, I want to change this.
I'm searching the forum for two days now to find a comprehensive explanation to alter the sound of CUP, but all "solutions" I could find are written from people that know the structure of IL2 in and out it seems - I'm in over my head and everything I try fails.
In one thread they say Jivers mod works with CUP, but for the hell of it... I can't get it to work. When I select modact in the selector it is there, but when I chose WAW...all gone.
Then I tried to put Jivers files into #WAW\!SAS_Engine_Mod as I suspected these are the sounds I hear ingame...to no avail. It seems it is not as simple as I thought. :(
I'm pretty new to IL2 1946 and am happy and greateful for the wonderful work that CUP is (espacially how simple it is to install)... the only thing I need is a better sound, especially the flybys (am also playing HSFX with Tigers mod and it is awesome, get goosebumps when I hear the flyby).
Can somebody help me out, please?
-
I'm puzzled...
This is only about the flyby sound.
this is from my config.ini:
SoundMode=1
SamplingRate=2
NumChannels=4
This says the logfile:
Audio finished.
Initializing DirectSound playback device...
Primary buffer created.
Playback format is set : sampling rate = 22050, num channels = 2
Shouldn't it be num channels = 4?
I know that all sound mods work, because in all of my other installs, every sound mord works, hell even my CUP install sounds correct, but only if I select Modact5.13 in the selector.
In another thread there was the suggestion to download a JAVA file and put it into #WAW/VT... did that to no avail. Tried flyby=o or 1 with water=2 or 0. Hardware channel=1. What else can I try?
I have a Soundblaster Xonar U7 external Soundcard.
-
... there is something strange in what you posted, because:
"Playback format is set : sampling rate = 22050" means you have SamplingRate=1 in your conf.ini ...
... when in fact you say you have SamplingRate=2 ... o_O
-
I was clicking away in the games Audio-Menu, maybe that did something? Just let the game run again and get this:
Audio finished.
Initializing DirectSound playback device...
Primary buffer created.
Playback format is set : sampling rate = 44100, num channels = 2.
Had it on 22050 beforehand for many tests, because I read that somewhere.
-
I too have this problem. I've changed speaker setup, channel setup, pretty much anything I could think of, no go. You can hear the flyby, but its a fraction of the volume, and it does sound like stock sounds. Hoping someone has a fix....
-
SAS had a really good soundmod for 4.10 and there were several others (Jiver, Jafa, Tiger).
Nowdays all the soundmods are useless for 4.12 because SAS modact was reverted to stock sounds for the stock planes. I'm trying to get Jivers soundmod to work with 4.12 at least half way but its an uphill struggle for someone who is not a java programmer. Not everybody can see the need for good sounds unfortunately. I'm not familiar with CUP so I dont know what sounds they use but I would be surprised if they got a complete rework of Tigers mod with flyby's and all and it wasnt shared back to the community for non CUP users to have.
-
I have been hoping and hoping for some mg & cannon sounds with some actual 'bang" sound to them, but I guess it isn't to be done
with the CUP install and I'm just to dang tired to try & figure out another 1946 IL2 DBW etc setup again.
-
I'm not sure about mod planes but the stock planes use stock weapon preset names which are these:
weapon.air_cannon_37.prs
weapon.air_cannon_45.prs
weapon.air_cannon_75.prs
weapon.bomb_big.prs
weapon.bomb_cassette.prs
weapon.bomb_mid.prs

weapon.torpedo.prs
weapon.zenitka_20.prs
weapon.zenitka_37.prs
weapon.zenitka_37c.prs
weapon.zenitka_85.prs
Cirx's Gun Soundmod Reference pack from the sound section has these presets, jivers soundmod also has these presets so its relative easy to replace the gun sounds. The problem for me is that for example in the stock game the browning 303 and mg17 shares the same sample.
I did some gun sound replacing with Jivers soundmod for the exact same reason you've mentioned, here's what I'm using now for 4.12...its quite an improvement over the modact 5.3 sounds, this should be CUP compatible:
http://ulozto.net/xMZzzutc/00-1jiversounds-4-12-7z
I also got a very advanced effects mod which also should be CUP compatible, its like GurnerFX but it has no big fps impact because I eliminated every effect which was not optimized and I also went thru the mat files which had a large number of errors: http://ulozto.net/xeJrrmi7/fxevolution-v4-12-vpmod-7z
Cheers

... Not everybody can see the need for good sounds unfortunately.
... you have no idea how much I agree with you, Istvan ...! ;)
That's mainly why I won't use any version of the game that is not compatible with Tiger's UV3 ... :P

I always like to read what you smart guys are saying about various things. This one interested me. Let me just add my two cents worth. Try listening to all these sounds with seventy three yr old ears (and graphics through eyes that are the same age, except they are "helped" using trifocals). Count yourselves fortunate if you don't have to.

Ha ha like ol'Navy this 76 yr ol fart has only bout half my ear sounds left...Most aircraft gun shots in CUP sound to me like
old air rifle bb guns. kinda takes the fun level way down.

... yep, I understand, amigo, but you may also know that as much as there are solutions for eyes, there are solutions for ears too ... ;)
X'Mas is approaching fast, so why not suggest that kind of pressie to your kids and family ...? :P
After all, Rudel and Bader didn't have legs, but that didn't prevent them from flying to defend their country ... 8)

Pretty sure the C.U.P. WAW section has Tiger's sounds and flybys including the FOV bug.
If you wanna fly hassle free Tiger's sounds without endless messing, go to 4.09m and check my Sabre thread, all in one there.
One of the reasons I keep my 4.09m install, that and some FMs.
Cheers and good Luck,
of course CUP has way! more content than any other install, thanks vpmedia for the links.

In CUP WAW you have the Tiger sounds included.
From The CUP manual:
Module Three - World at War 1936-1946
...A much cleaner file environment has enabled the revival, and conversion, of many favourite features
from past modded installs. Not least of these is the Tiger33 Soundset, with loud cockpits, roaring
cannons and MGs, and those glorious flybys!...
They sure work in my (many) CUP installs ;D

WTF! Somebody actually read the manual? !$@%#^@%#$@
Zoran is quite right too, Tiger's sounds are loudly and proudly integrated into WAW. If you are not hearing them properly then please check your setup. There is a page about this in the manual and I guarantee - its a setup/conf.ini issue that is preventing you from getting these working. Go through Conf.ini with the relevant manual page and tweak those numbers as directed.

I've done that and my flyby sounds still don't function properly, I've also been lurking the forums for about a month straight searching for answers on this well-documented issue.
It's gotten to the point that I'm fed up enough to revert my flyby sounds to stock sounds.

Done that, really? Care to post your config sound section here to see? Let's take a look. - Here's mine:

... ooopsie, Simon, I think your conf.ini should rather read:
[sound]
SoundUse=1
SoundEngine=1
Speakers=1
Attenuation=5
SoundMode=1
SamplingRate=2 <=== 1 (22050 khz sampling rate is enough)
NumChannels=3 <=== 4 (to make profit of 64 samples max being played at the same time instead of 32 stock)
AFAIK these are the settings highly recommended by Tiger for his UV3 sound mod ... ;)

I will try pasting your segment of code in case I've missed something, if it still doesn't work I think I'll revert back to pre-4.12.2 with my backup install of UP3

Hello guys,
I checked my setups last night and, as far as I can tell, I managed to engage Jiver's pack by putting it into "my_presets" and "my_samples". Also, I have enabled "DisableCUPSounds" JSGME module. Tiger's flybys are there when F3 is pressed while in cockpit I have Jiver's sounds.
I'm using Jiver's pack on both CUP and 4.13 with Modact 6.01. When compared, cockpit sounds are the same while there is a difference with flybys, as expected.
Regarding the conf.ini, the game itself updates this file according to the hardware resources/capabilities so I have never managed to follow the CUP manual's specification related to sound setup. I rather left conf.ini with "natural" settings, as the game defined it, that is. In other words, I'm using 32 channels, 44100 sampling rate, headphones option with "extensions" enabled.
Hope this helps a bit...

... I never read this in more than 15 years with IL2 ... o_O
If I were you, I'd first check that your conf.ini is not in "read only" mode (right click, properties)
Once you have edited your conf.ini never modify anything in the game's settings panel as this will over ride your conf.nin settings ... ;)
-
Yes, it could happen I misinterpreted some steps so, please, don't be misled with conf.ini part. The rest of my post is accurate for sure.
Regards...
EDIT:
I was not lazy so I checked once again and tried to set sampling rate to 1 and number of channels to 4 by manually editing conf.ini, as CUP manual suggests and as Mick reminded Simon. I have ONLY started the game and pressed "quit" right away, without touching anything. Checked conf.ini and number of channels was 3 instead of 4. Also, conf.ini doesn't have read-only attribute set. It seems I didn't misinterpret anything after all. Sorry Mick, please don't find this offending...
-
I suggest you change the settings in the conf.ini and save it then you rightclick properties and make it read only before starting the game. Test and recheck after closing the game.
-
Frankly, I don't see a reason to keep a conf.ini value (by making a file read-only) which can't be supported by a hardware platform. Finally, I'm not the one with an issue here, I was just sharing my experiences regarding this matter because, as I wrote already, it seems to me that this works properly in my case (Tiger's flybys + Jiver's pack, that is). Anyhow, thanks for being interested in...
-
Checked conf.ini and number of channels was 3 instead of 4.
... looks like your hardware and/or your (not updated) sound drivers are involved ...
Do you have a sound card or "only" an inboard sound chip ...?
Are you playing on a PC or a laptop ...? ;)
-
Of course it is a hardware matter, drivers involved are the latest (installed everything recently on newly bought Lenovo Y50-70). I guess it is related to Cavimanus HS-G700V headset, sound subsystem in my case.
I'm afraid this discussion won't help our colleague in resolving his Tiger/Jiver issue. So, my suggestion still stands...
