In WAW the game crashes when ai gets ready to takeoff. In JTW the in game AI navy jets cannot land on a carrier. They always come in too fast, miss the wires completely fly for a short distance then crash in the water!
Currently using Il-2:1946 on Steam with MME 1-12, WAW 1-17, and JTW 1-9 installed.

Have you tried using the C&C landing commands?

You see. This is what happens when you make an installation guide as confusing as possible. I assume you are referring to JSGME.

I don't know what C&C landing commands is. Sorry.

In this 2 years of 4.12.2m + SAS Engine MOD 2.7 + western patch environment, even heavy modern jets , aircrafts land in enough slow speed and softly , never break themselves on carrier decks.
I don't know in which JTW component applies latest SAS Engine MOD 2.7 + western patch, but when you install last of them correctly, any jets may behave as I say.
C&C is out of date and you can forget in this term.

Lancer,
I rarely comment negatively towards someone's comment but this one struck a nerve.
You stated "this is what happens when you make an installation guide as confusing as possible"
Your comment is very disrespectful to all those who have worked to create C.U.P. - all for free. Instead of demeaning the C.U.P. crew, take the time to study the history of the mod.
C.U.P. has been developed by people to make modding as easy as possible compared to what was available before. If you had installed C.U.P. when it was first made available, then you would have experienced the development process it has gone through to reach its current number of files. For example, WAW begun with 8 files and now is at 17 with each file adding content which in turn made it necessary to address conflicts within C.U.P.
People here are very helpful but if you choose to criticize what is available, you will discover that people will be less interested in helping you.

I don't know what C&C landing commands is. Sorry.
This 'landing' new command in the new 4.12 C&C mod is designed to correct this kind of problem with jets landing in #JTW. You can find it all explained in the C&C ReadMe in your CUP install, I think.

Didn't mean any disrespect. Its a lot to read and would be nice if someone would publish a tl;dr guide w/o all of the pictures of mods and links to said mods. Its a ton of clutter that isn't easy on the eye.

Okay... Can we guess that something better is coming with the next CUP updates ? ;)

In my heard (not tested by myself), CUP's JTW has already had enough new Engine MOD patch code AI safely landing on carriers.
isn't it?
-
Lancer - would it be easier if someone installed it for you as well ?
CUP is one of the biggest collections of mods ever installed, if not the biggest. The instructions are simple....if you take 30 seconds to actually look for them and then read them
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,47647.0.html
read, download, follow the instructions and it works....dont read, download, assume and chances are it doesnt work....enough said ?
-
Still not at all helpful. I installed as instructed and the aircraft carriers are broken now.
Maybe I should just move on to DCS.
I've been playing this since 2003 but its pretty much run its course as far as simulators go.
Then again the DCS message boards are about as hostile and usless as most video game discussion boards these days.

I amazed how just after 5 posts you have managed to make me no longer wish to try to help, I have no issues with my jets landing, I installed CUP with no major issues and as each minor one was located it was repaired usually in short order by the board members co-operating with each other, the C in CUP does stand for community you know, or maybe you didnt know.
the implication in your post is that most boards [ i read it as SAS included ] are hostile and useless. Maybe if you came through the door with a better attitude you'd get better service.
-
. I installed as instructed and the aircraft carriers are broken now.
mate, if i had a penny for every time some member gave us this line, and then we proved otherwise.....
it's simple - you did not install as instructed. that's all.
no-one here is trying to diss you, but as mentioned before, if you come into a thread looking for help, and then start sniping everyone who's comments you don't like, then you will soon have no-one who is willing to help you.
that's human nature, it's nothing to do with 'this or that' community.
the instructions are a lot, yes, but that's because this is a huge mod collection.
now, take a minute to consider this - you come from a background of flight sims such as DCS, you said - well, most of those and other flight sims were designed with modding specifically in mind, so literally anyone could jump in and use/make mods.
IL2 is a completely different kettle of fish - it was never designed with modding in mind, and it took years before some guy eventually hacked the game, and made it possible to mod.
even with that, there were no tools or anything for modders, we had to develop them ourselves.
bear this in mind, please, and then if you're asking for help, remember, even if you don't like the answer, these guys are still trying to help you.
if you shoot them down, you're going to end up man alone with no help forthcoming at all - which seems to be the direction this is going.
so, please, take a few breaths, calm down and come back here with a more relaxed manner.
as for your carrier problems, from your explanations so far, it's still unclear to me exactly what you've done with your setup -
i honestly suggest starting from scratch with a fresh install, and then ASK for help the second you're not 100% sure of any instructions, BEFORE just going ahead and making your own decisions.
to mod IL-2, you seriously need to read all instructions at least twice, and then again for good measure.
it is unbelievably easy to make a mistake, so keep notes of what you've done, so it's easier to back-track when something goes wrong.
none of us here are all-knowing, we've all learnt through our mistakes here, so please, just relax and go through the issues step by step, and don't engage any comment you don't like, because it totally derails the thread - from a 'new guy lookng for help' thread, into a 'new guy looking for a fight with whoever doesn't help' thread....

il-2 modding is not for frustrated people :D

Why do disrespectful comments always start with "Didn't mean any disrespect" ... :-|
Lancer,
Make your own install guide without pictures...Give this check list a try, cut and paste the code section into a doc and follow along.

Lancer, there's an easy to follow illustrated guide here that may be useful.

I am 4.09, 2.01 and I have several carriers crashing the game. Not all carriers. I see the ship sailing and about the time I start the engine on the plane the game crashes.
I guess it is some mod that causes the crash. One day in the distant future I'm going to test all the carriers I've got to find which carriers crash and which don't, but I am building maps at the moment, so it is going to take a while before I get to it.
Just a little report from the front

Do you mean:
- Patched up to 4.09
- And the CUP installed over that
????
If that's the case then your install is already FUBAR as you need:
3]-SAS IL-2 4.12.2m Mega Patch
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,38443.0.html
4]-SAS Modact 5.3 for IL-2 4.12.2m
Its not necessary to install the AI Flyables, they are part of the CUP install.

I think....
LameHawk says HIS UP2.01 @ 4.09m CASE, completely not related to C.U.P. and LancerFrigate's problem.
And his "crashing" might show il2fb.exe application crashing, not aircraft crashing on carrier decks.
-

He needs to be clear on what his issue is here specifically!
-
and if it's a 409 problem he's trying to resolve, then please, not in this thread, it will lust confuse things for people...
-
It is quite true that my problem is not CUP related.
I simply meant that the carrier problem may be more general than just CUP.
But since I have not yet had the time to look into the matter - please disregard
-

No.
Nothing general between 4.09m and 4.12.2m based CUP.
-
@LameHawk: it might also be that you are trying missions that are not compatible! missions designed for 4.12 will not work properly in 4.09 and also the other way round! there was a set of USN missions set during the Pacific war that were designed for 4.08 IIRC and most of them worked even in 4.10 and some in 4.12, but not all of them;
for example, an old, incompatible loadout from a previous game/mod version in one of the aircraft in the missions may already lead to said problems when entering a mission...
so before you claim the carriers to be broken, I would suggest you do a lot more testing and as this forum is dedicated to CUP Tech Help, pls stop posting problems that occur when running other versions of the game...
if its not a CUP Tech problem, it aint belong here....
