Cyberolas Crimea and LalRhone Crimea Seasons
Cyberolas fabulous re-texture of the Crimea renders the old LalRhone maps, as used in HSFX for example, obselete by overwriting the Actors.Static file.  While Cyberolas re-paint is brilliant, the old LalRhone maps offered other seasons, particularly a snowy Crimean Winter.

We could have moved Cyberolas to a unique slot, but what about those who want the Cyberolas repaint to replace the Default Crimea? - This we did but the LalRhone seasonal maps were messed up as a result.  The compromise reached retains Cyberolas repaint and replacement buildings as the new Default Crimea but also manages to retain the LalRhone Crimean Winter Map with its own unique Actors.Static so that the buildings are not moved into the wrong places.

RE-ORGANISING THE STATIC.INI
CUP's STATIC.ini, the largest and most comprehensive of all, has been re-organised into object groups for ease of use in FMB.  This is an on-going process that will see even further refinement.  Currently the object groups are listed and numbered in the STATIC ORGANISED.txt file; making it easier to quickly find any FMB object.

***************************************

RE-ORGANISING THE MAPLIST
As everyone knows by now its important to JSGME activate #CUP_MissionProCombo-v4122 if you want to see the maplist in FMB.  When working with and playing scripted campaigns it is also advantageous to switch #CUP_MissionProCombo-v4122 off - That's why its in JSGME, easy to switch on and off.

The new CUP FMB Maplist details more accurate regions, names and credits, making the whole thing much easier to use at a glance.

The original Malta Map by Maraz was a brilliant work becoming part of Ultra-Pack and then Dark Blue World in version 410.  Over the years, merging with other mods, texture irregularities have crept in and the map is no longer maintained.  Maraz' Malta map became part his larger Central Mediterranean Map which was recently re-textured to great effect by GilB57.  Rather than continue trying to fix the old Malta Map its better to adapt to Mediterranean Central - by Maraz/GilB57.  The old Malta has therefore been remmed out.  However, for those who wish to continue with the old material the ini entries remain, they are simply //'d out for convenience and clarity.

...THX to you and the team!

I know what you mean mate and you are welcome!

Maps, textures, Objects, Static.inis and Actors.statics are tricky enough to install separately and take up a lot of space un-compressed.  Installing many maps, with an economical compression for a drop-in install is no push-over.  These are always the longest and most difficult sets to construct and we do it to help reduce the chaos that would ensue if we didn't do it!  8)

Thanks for this new update mate!

Hi Walter, the flying module stuff we have been testing will be presented after this set of maps.  So SAS MME Part-13 is essential for anything that follows.  These have the latest Static.inis too, so any test packages will have to be re-uploaded to include them. - No worries!  8)

All of these maps feature strikingly realistic textures and structure with really nice de-saturated colours and object population that follows the terrain layout.  Maps in il2 mods are getting better and better...

LINK UPDATE

C.U.P. Module 01 SAS-MME Pt-13D-PNG
https://www.mediafire.com/?t9yauh5e5taqylu

Now with extra map! - PNG 42 and PNG 43

Only the one version was included previously.

So easy is the modular install of CUP Parts: - just drop this one into your Il2 main directory, whether you had the previous Part-13D or not, and this will update you to the full amount of 374 CUP Maps!

This new Part-13D contains the extra map, in a slightly larger "VCL16.SFS"  Adding only one version was down to a typo by me and my reduced mod-work window because of the heat this time of year.  Just grab this one instead and throw it in on top of the other three.  If you are getting it for the first time, you won't even notice!

Thanks to all the great map makers who helped, and continue to help, with advice, notes, tips and links.   8)

Goodo!   Glad you have this my friend - Your translation and mirrors are a wonderful service to offer.

I love your front page too, still have all those discs on my bookshelves!  The campaigns, like Barbarossa, are well overdue for a re-interpretation done through CUP...

We have the major updates for the CUP Manual, WAW-Part-18 (Hortens, more Mustangs and TB-3s fixed)  and DOF Part-11 (C&C 412, more aircraft and 40 WWI campaigns!) also imminent, as well as general structure updates for the other mod folders.  I will keep you posted.

Hi nyali, there are updates to JSGME Options in Part-13D, so DISABLE ALL JSGMEs first then drop it in.  As a guide its good practice to always do this when adding anything.  All of the various JSGME Options are very small and most take only seconds to 'activate'.

Remember the old days when TFM was actually made in JSGME and took 30 minutes or longer per package?  We have come a looooong way!  8)

****************************

Thanks and good wishes are appreciated and I would like to add that CUP and the astonishing database we enjoy could not exist without SAS.  Not just the technical aspects of running such a huge site, but the assistance, co-operation, openess and 'can-do' attitude that comes from SAS Admin and percolates down through the entire site.

I could not do anything like this anywhere else - I wouldn't be allowed to exist - CUP is an excellent example of cross-co-operation.

SAS has created this environment, right from the days when SAS~Cirx founded this place.  They are open and honest and do their thing - Il2 first - and don't give a hoot what the rest of the world thinks.  It was a breath of fresh air when I first stumbled in some years ago and it is still the same today.

So my thanks to the Modders that make this place so special and the Admins that make it all work, somehow, and make it all feel special too.  8)

Simon - GREAT work!!! thanks a lot!
and what I have read about WAW pt18 also makes me happy - especially the part about the TB-3s fixed! may I ask if they had troubles after adding the Mines and Torpedoes mod? because that was what I wanted to try tomorrow to see if I can get the TB-3s fixed with messing around with said mod....

other than that, the PBN also seems to be affected some way or the other-see the post by tartenmuche in the Tech Help section;
oh and the Nagato BBs might miss an entry in the ships.ini (HullEnormNagato or something like that);
can be easily bixed and would be great to see also introduced in pt18..

and how right you are, we have come a long way since the days of TFM;
but the startup screens and menu backgrounds you did for TFM were way better than the new ones IMHO :D

well, cheers from Vienna

Hi Phil

hmmm, it is perhaps time for new screens, and total themes, like your Pacific are good too.  As you know the screens now live in .../STD/GUI... so there is no obstacle to adding some new themed options through JSGME.  It would be nice to select a totally different theme and background set.

I accept your challenge! - wanna do some more too?

Simon
Title: Re: SAS-Modular Map Expansion - PART 13
Post by: Griffon_301 on January 11, 2016, 05:06:19 PM
hehe nyali - thats why smart people (after a suggestion by BravoFxTrt - still one of the best greatest guys I have ever met here) did not use JSGME but the direct install method; still my preferred way of doing it; one only has to make sure to always back up any files he is going to change when adding stuff :D

Simon, if I would be only halfway competent in creating backgrounds, I would love to do some as well;
oh but the set you did for TFM was magnificent - that F6F Hellcat touching down on a carrier during sunset is still my loading screen for my old warhorse DBW/newTFM install;
and that Spit rolling in behind the FW-190 is the game background...looks much better than the TBolt and Spit in Hangar...
combined with new Fonts looking like old typewriters for the menus thats really immersive :)

oh and before I forget, I also use your old menu music set for newTFM in CUP, way better than that marching music crap that comes with IL2 stock :D
maybe its time for a rerelease? or a new menu music set using stuff from Two Steps from Hell maybe?

...I also use your old menu music set for newTFM in CUP, way better than that marching music crap that comes with IL2 stock :D

Oh yeah!  I though that marching bollocks was long gone!  OK Phil, its time we opened up a new JSGME Options thread, starting with those very suggestions for sound and vision!

BravoFxTrt hasn't been so active here recently, real life issues have kept him busy AFAIK.  It was Bravo who sourced so many of those great screens for TFM.  I spoke with him on Skype many times over the years, last was about 6 months ago.   We need to give him a prod and get him back here more often.  Its not like there isn't a lot going on at SAS!

...may I ask if they had troubles after adding the Mines and Torpedoes mod? because that was what I wanted to try tomorrow to see if I can get the TB-3s fixed with messing around with said mod...

Yes indeed Phil. With the modular nature of CUP it is very easy to go back a stage or two.  In this case I used the mod folder #WAW from Part-14, before the torps were added, and the TB-3s tested fine.  It was then a fairly simple matter to go back to WAW Part-17/18 but remove the Torp mod classfiles and testload each one, in small groups, until the failure could be replicated.

Pretty soon I had it down to just one offending classfile and the solution. - Did it in less than two cold beers!

In updating the manual later I wish to underline this robustness and safe backup inherent in CUP.  People have previously mentioned a 're-install' when this is NEVER necessary.  Its so easy to step back and forth to any stage because the SFS format is only referenced by the mod folders and the mod folders contain all the classfiles.

Anyone can step from one Restore Point to another, back and forth, simply by using the complete #WAW mod folders (or #DOF/#TGA/#JTW) at each Restore Point.  You never need to touch the SFS files once you have them.  Occassionally they are updated but are always backwards and forwards compatible.

Of course Module One - The crucial maps, has no mod folder but contributes to all of the others.  So its best practice to always keep Module One up to date before doing anything else in CUP.  In future I will also post a reminder to this effect at the top of each subsequent CUP upgrade. ie: are you up to date as far as SAS MME Part-13?

With CUP whatever gets fixed stays fixed!

It is for that reason that I love the Il-2 game and community (the community is the best part).... I have been here for nearly 4 years and I have loved every moment here on SAS. It is amazing that we are still pumping life into this "old" game that can safely claim a spot as the best all-around flight simulator. In what other game can you fly F-16's alongside Fokker D VII?  ;)

This mod site is simply much more than a mod site; it is in a category of its own: SAS!
And also,

Simon, in latest MME Pt-13D-PNG I found 4 static.ini's.
3 (DOF,TGA,JTW) of them seems - apart from the "Cavalry" lines in DOF - to be the same ,
but WAWs static.ini differs and does not have this lines in "Title CanonBitumenEarthGroundPlate" section
(checked with WinMerge):

Code: [Select]
[buildings.Plate$PCPTaxiLong]
Title           Taxi
Mesh            3do/airfield/PCP/TaxiLong/mono.sim

[buildings.Plate$Pac_GrHardstandMedium]
Title           Hardstand
Mesh            3do/airfield/Pac_Gr/HardstandMedium/mono.sim

[buildings.Plate$DesertGroundRunwayLong]
Title           Runway
Mesh            3do/airfield/Desert/RunwayLong/mono.sim

[buildings.Plate$PCPParkingLarge]
Title           Parking
Mesh            3do/airfield/PCP/ParkingLarge/mono.sim

what is the reason for this?  ;)

One thing I noticed after the installation of MME Part 13 is that the CUP-Channel Red Scramble mission takes off from what I guess is Hawkinge with the base plates/textures seriously affected. Does anyone else notice this? Prior to this new MME pack the mission worked flawlessly and I often use it for testing of effects etc as a standard testbed. The only thing I changed was the new MME pack.

EDIT: This abberation still occurs after MME Part 14. The ground plates have been erased or interfered with somehow.

In the next update would it be possible to add the updated Baleares map please:

Myself and David prosser did a lot of work fixing things on the map and more importantly actually
added various seaplane bases that were not originally included but which are very important for
that aspect of the Spanish Civil war and after. ;)

Take care.

Hi CUP team, my great congratulations for these amazing updates!! I set them and all eras works well.

Just a little question: before these part I had the skies, for all eras, as picture below, visible in the background. I am sorry but is the only screenshot available to explain:

Now, after installing part. 13ABCD and 14, the skies for all eras are as picture below:

Is it possible to come back with skies as per the first picture? I tried to activate and de-activate the various mods #xxx_DEF-SKIES, but the skies remain the same as per the second picture.

Many thanks for your help!

Ciao!

Marco

Hi Simon, many thanks for your suggestion. I would to avoid to install something manually, I prefer jsgme, it is much safer for a duffer like me... :-[

For information, where can I found #CUP_TB SKIES? I haven't it in my CUP installation...

Many thanks!

Ciao.

For greater clarity I mean skies as in the first 8 pictures of this thread: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,44745.0.html.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Ciao!

Marco,

Whistler's Random Skies mod is much better as you get to use all of TBauchot's skies across all CUP Maps and they are randomised too.  There are a few folders to download, one executable and clear instructions.

https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,47154.0.html

The old JSGME Option #CUP_TB SKIES was a crude attempt that simply added one of TB's skies to each of the maps.  However, it is easy to install, one quick click I suppose...  #CUP_TB SKIES can be found in SAS MME Part-10/JSGMEMODS/#CUP_TB SKIES.  I had forgotten about it and only use Whistler's Randomiser these days.

SAS-MME10 - https://www.mediafire.com/?wdqaobc2fscwj3d

It is very easy to take the JSGME Option from that file and and use that if you prefer.  Take care not to apply any of the other folders from SAS MME Part-10.

The really quick and dirty way to do it is this: - UnZIP/UnRAR ALL OF PART-10 (straight to main Il2 directory) - Then UnZIP/UnRAR ALL OF PART-14 (straight to main Il2 directory) - this will take less than a minute to do. - You will be back up to date and the #CUP_TB SKIES will be magically available from JSGME!

SAS-MME14 - https://www.mediafire.com/?wvsdq7m370oja0q

Of course we have added a few maps since SAS MME Part-10 so we will need to upgrade #CUP_TB SKIES to take these into account.  Let me know if you apply the procedure and have the skies back for most of the maps.  If you are successful I will post a new package to apply them in this way to all of the maps if that is what you want.

Firstly, do the above, and I want to see pictures!  8)

Many thanks for suggestions and patience Simon!!

Of course I am going to try also Whistler's Random Skies, with pictures next time... ;)
Obviously I will de-activate #cup_tb skies first...

Ciao!

Hello Simon, found some time today to have a look at the map update and found a issue with the vp_media Stalingrad
Autumn map, the other two are fine. ;)

Pete, have you tried to load the Autumn Stalingrad Map in FMB?
I just did, loads and saves fine in WAW-18B.

So it has to be QMB mission and not a map problem ..

Hello guys, I have had to download many CUP segments a number of times due to them failing, maybe I have a corrupted part and that is why the map issue is there. :-|

Thank you very much for the help anyway.

Take care.

Hello guys, the Stalingrad Autumn map is now showing in my install. 8)

I went through the SFS_MAPS folder to check there were no missing files and all were there, however, when I compared some of the VCL SFS files three were a smaller KB than the ones in the most recent downloads, once copied and pasted in all would appear to be ok.

Not sure why this was as I thought I had added each update as instructed, possibly not. :-[

Some of the map updates I did download twice so maybe some elements had been corrupted who knows.

Anyway, thank you very much for the help, greatly appreciated.

Take care.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete. ;D
