Dropping of supplies and troops in il2 had always been rather poorly treated :( - This mod tries to somehow correct that,...and it's only a beginning ;) :D
The present mod contains:
1) Supplies containers:
British:
Wicker basket, Medical supplies crate, Containers type C, CLE Mk3, F, H
US:
Cardboard container, Supplies packs type A4, A5, A6, A8
German:
Abwurfbehalter 250 early, Abwurfbehalter 250 Late, Abwurfbehalter 700, Abwurfbehalter 1000
2) colored chutes for supplies containers
Allied Supply chutes were colour-coded according to what was in the canister – ammunition, food, medical, etc. The colour codes changed from operation to operation.
For D-Day they were:
Rations – Blue
Medical – Yellow
Ammunition – Red
Individual and collective equipment - White
Communications Equipment – Green
For Operation Market-Garden they were:
Ammunition – Red
Rations – Green
Medical – White
Fuel – Blue
Communications Equipment – Yellow
The mod includes these colored chutes :D(and of course the possibility for modders writing a cod file to choose whatever color of chute they want for whatever container / supply pack they want to use)
Also included are the White/Red stripped chute used often by Soviet for dropping supplies (together with the regular white ones), and the Green silk and Yellow/Red stripped chutes often used by German (together with the regular white ones) for this same purpose
3) colored chutes for paratroopers
To go further, the mod also includes the possibility to choose which kind of historical parachute is used by paratroopers - not only the color variations, but also correct historical shapes for the triangular German and Square Soviet chutes. ;D
4 variants of US Paratroopers' chutes
2 variants of British Paratroopers' chutes
4 variants of German Paratroopers' chutes
2 variants of Italian Paratroopers' chutes
2 variants of Soviet Paratroopers' chutes
Camouflage 'chutes became more and more common for US paras during 1944. If not camouflaged, US paras' main chutes were
Khaki/Olive Drab British X type canopy was initially made of white silk but this soon changed when a cotton weave fabric was adopted with a more practical russet-brown tint, and later a speckled camouflage pattern.
German canopies RZ1 and RZ16 were undyed white. The RZ-20 canopy had a tri-colour camoflage (green-brown-black). The RZ36 had a tri-colour camouflage (green-tan-black)or a white canopy that was delta shaped when inflated
German Chutes used in Crete were RZ1 - white (some officers were reported as using a black chute) and RZ20 - green-brown-black camo (used in Crete for the first time)
Italian used Salvatore white chutes till IF41 was adopted, which looked very much like the German RZ16 - Its canopy could be white, camouflaged or anthracite-black.
Russian used white Salvatore type parachute, often jumping with 2 parachutes opened simultaneously, then in 1941 was introduce a characteristic square chute, white also.
4) Cod files are included for testing these goodies on the following planes (in addition to their current weapons loadout):
He111-H8
Ju52/3mg4e
Si204
TB-3 4M-17 Trans
TB-3 4M-34 Trans
CA-148
CANTZ1007_Cargo

This mod has been tested in BAT (therefore suitable to 4.12.2) and in Il2-FB 4.13.3 SAS 6.3
Enjoy! ;D

Très beau travail ! ;)
Thank you very much !

Dear Dreamk,
congratulations for your work.
I am surprised by the long time used by the paratroopers to get outside the aircraft. They are spread over kilometers.
My experience is that a stick of five was out in approx. five seconds.
Maybe it could be changed in a more realistic way in part 2?
Best regards.
Tart

I agree. The way paratroopers jump in Il2 is totally unrealistic. TD has even worsened the situation by increasing the delay before opening of the chute - This is suited to pre-WW2 Soviet paratroops way of jumping from the TB-3 but is thoroughly absurd for ww2, as most drops in WW2 used automatic release chutes. The spectacular way the paratrooper jump is also suited to German, Italian and early war Japanese paratroopers, who used chutes based Salvatore system, but totally wrong for US, British and Soviet paratroopers.
I'll try to play with the timing to accelerate the cadence of paratroopers drop, and shorten the delay before opening of the chute, above all for drops at low level.
-
Welcome everyone, I tried to make a couple of skins for the containers by reworking that one made by Dreamk, but I'm not sure if they look realistic? should this look like this :P?

They look like the ones displayed by modern re-enactment groups. Whether this was true for historical ww2 samples is a question - most of the surviving the Abwurfbehalter 700 I show :
1) Wood, no paint, only the FL numbers in white paint
2) Wood or Metal: in either Sea-Gray or RLM02 paint with white FL numbers.
For the Abwurfbehalter 250 we have either:
Metal in RLM02 or in Dark Green paint (Usually with white FL numbers).
Now on ww2 B&W photos the Abwurfbehalter 700 appears always as medium gray, sometimes with dark large tactical signs (but these were uncommon except on the Italian front in 1943) or sometimes very dark grey, with light colored tactical signs, and of course for medical supplies a small red cross roundel. The color of the tactical sign apparently varied, but the I found written records of Yellow (not Red, though this is always a possibility) large letters

Thank you for your explanation, I think we have to wait until someone with more experience wants to make these skins for us.
Edit;
I forgot to provide a link in case anyone would like to use these skins :P, I hope that Dreamk will have nothing against.
Edit1 (4.5.2018):
I updated the link , please delete the previous skins. I can't add the effect of dirt and rust, generally speaking about visible wear, I would be grateful if someone would want to do it.

for German containers there is a problem there is not some coloring template, according to my research as the basic color was RLM 2, otherwise colorful coloring can not give any template. each unit is coloring for a specific action
And the only thing that can be taken as a template is the colored stripes on the containers
they were mostly from one to four stripes of the same color - and that was how I thought they were being planted from the Ju 52 - and more than 4 pieces were not going to the Ju-52 rectory, and there were gear and armament for 12 soldiers

awesome mod, mate, thanks!
if i have one tiny complaint, it's only that with so many cool US/British loads, it's a pity that there is no corresponding Allied AC for them to be utilised with.
No doubt, it's simply a matter of time before that is remedied, so not really even a complaint, just an observation, lol.
again, many thanks, will be using this for sure :D
-
Not only Allied AC (we have presently the DC3, the Halifax the Liberator and the Mitchell that were used to drop supplies - I need to make cod files for these - but we lack the Albermale and the Stirling) - I am going to upload the 2nd part of this mod which will include the Japanese air dropped containers and the Mitsubishi Ki-47 Topsy and the Nakajima Ki-34 Thora are acutely lacking.

I agree, there is no uniform template, and since it would be necessary to create a new template for each operation, it is difficult to propose a good solution here.
-
I have succeeded to put a hand on suitable documentation concerning new containers, that will shortly appear in Il2 as the 2nd part of this pack - here're some photos and details of the forecoming goodies:
1) The original Michlastbehalter-1000 (720kg payload) - it was replaced in 1943 by the Abwurfbehalter 1000 based on LMB aerial mines bodies, that were readily available, and apparently less complex and less expensive to produce in numbers.
It so happens that an example of the original Michlastbehalter-1000 is in the collection of the national Army Museum in Prague (They just closed the museum for renovation...and it is planned to remain closed for 4 years!) but they have began to digitize their collections and it's a great thing:

2) The main airdrop container used by Hungarian Paratroops:

3) Soviet containers: PD-MM-42 (PD-MM-100) , UPD-MM, PDBB-100, PDBB-250

4) Japanese containers - I found the Osprey booklets on Japanese paratroops as sadly misleading, with interpretations of some frames of newsreels or propaganda movies that are not really consistent between them and between the interpretation of the authors of these booklets - moreover, it appears that there are good photographs and even surviving example of ww2 Japanese airdrop containers in US and Australian national archives and in private collections - these enable to understand the apparent contradiction of the period movies reels (different evolutive models of the same type that seem to have been mixed by Osprey in a single one, angle of view that deform the real shape, etc,,): a few examples:

Hi Dreamk,
Having installed your mod in BAT ver3.3 Pathfinder, I have come across a problem when using the FMB.
In existing missions using Ju 52_3MG4E when I highlighted a way-point all that showed up was the aircraft object.
I opened the object and had to change the number of aircraft to 4 and the load-out to 18 German para RZ1 .
I saved this mission then opened it again, the way-points were all there but the number of aircraft was
not displayed nor the skins when the object was selected and opened.
Ran the mission and 4 Ju 52 appeared and delivered the para's as required.
(I was not able to change the skins or number of aircraft after saving).
On a new mission, if I place the first way-point of the JU 52 the open it
I can number the planes up to 4, change the skins etc ok
then fill the load-out as required go back to the map and place other way-points
as required then save . close the mission and reload only to find I cannot change
the number of aircraft or skins(boxes do not appear) in FMB
Now when mission is played the aircraft's appear as you would expect.
Hope the above makes sense!
Now I do not know if this is my problem or a change of the FMB program
when using this mod,
I would be grateful if other users can advise me if they have a problem
If this is not the place to comment please remove or replace to correct place
Cheers edc1(stan)
Ps no problem in QMB except if I use 4 JU 52 I can only change the first aircraft skin
the rest are default
-
Hi edc1, I encountered the same problem (FMB), try to put the files, AerialChutes , AerialContainers , AerialParatroopers on the top of your installation, it should solve the problem.

Hi Piotreck1,
Thanks for that info It has partly solved my problem
but after saving the mission when I re open it number of planes, skins
and load out does not show but mission fly's ok
cheers edc1(stan)
-
It was similar with the previous great packages (AerialMinesCods & AerialTorpedoes or NewBarometric_HydrostaticFuzes, at the beginning I had a problem with them especially in FMB, over time everything has been "matched" and now it works like in the watch :P.
Regards,
Piotrek

Running the mod a few times will generally solve this last part of the problem, which may appear with all new piece of dropped ordnance introduced in Il2. This is due to the fact that the game engine has sometimes a tendency to behave like in the first versions of Il2, when declaration of each piece of dropped the gui.properties file was necessary. This disappears after running the game a few times with the new ordnance installed.
The other way to solve the problem is of course to include in the gui.properties file lines such as:
PTAB25 PTAB-2.5
but it's generally not needed, the game engine learns by itself about the new ordnance.
-
Hi Piotrek1 and Dreamk,
Many thanks for the info on the game engine behavior with some mods
I will keep at it until the game learns about the new mod.
Cheers edc1 (stan)
Ps, Great mod Dreamk!

Dreamk: thank you thank you thank you. This is a wonderfull mod!!!

Hi Dreamk , Is there any chance to use some parachute conteiners in these airplanes, please?
I do not know the exact data C-54 but I suppose that they were also used:
C-47 Flareship - (Were these containers still used in the Korean War?)
