Asheshouse strikes again.
-
I can't believe it...
Asheshouse, you are the MASTER!
Maybe in this forum there is already an HMS Hood WIP...
Day by day you, and the others talented modders as you, are making this simulator an historic jewel!
A big thank!

Update -- Lots of parts still to be added, but progressing slowly. Beginning to look like Hipper now.

Already looking great! :)
She will be an important addition to the IL2 Sea :)

... "she" looks very promising, for sure ...! 8)
By the way, very interesting article about referring to ships as “she” in English language... ;)
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/apr/26/ships-she-royal-navy-language-row-female
Extract:
"Lloyds List, the 285-year-old daily maritime bible, abandoned “she” for “it” almost 20 years ago."
-
I am entirely comfortable with the long established practice of referring to ships as "she".
I am also entirely comfortable with the French term "le bateau"
I cannot comprehend how anybody can find offence in either use.
-
I'll use this in missions if the opportunity arises.

... all current British Navy ships are called HMS xxx, and HMS stands for "Her Majesty's Ship", so as long as a queen rules in England, no problem ... ;)

As always, first quality. :)
Un saludo.

Thank you very much! Very beautiful model.

looks perfect!
thanks for your hard work!

Gut, sehr gut! ;)
Bravo !

Beautiful Ship!!!
-
wunderbar!
-
Dear ashe... too much for us... ;)
Wonderful work in progress, simply perfect!
-
Me neither. Le bateau sounds cool. For someone who only speaks English; French sounds incredibly sophisticated. It doesn't matter if they're talking about their favourite soap, or existensialism. The effect is the same. Keep up the good work with the ships.
-
Working forward from the stern to get everything mapped, and correcting stuff as I stumble across it.
Working texture is 2048x2048 pixels, but will reduce to standard 1024x1024 when mapping is completed.

Here a size comparison between Kriegsmarine ships (including Hipper) ...

-
Comparison with the stock Tirpitz model.
(https://i.postimg.cc/kXWJcDZt/image09.jpg) (https://postimages.org/)
I believe that the German designers made a positive effort to create similar profiles for the major ships in order to make ship recognition a little more difficult.
Tirpitz displacement was 42900t. Hipper displacement was 16170t.

...schön!

Hipper went through a lot of changes in camo and deck markings. The scheme I am intending to use for the skin is as she appeared in March 1942 when deployed to Norway.
In order to save space on the texture I plan to use the same camoflage scheme on both sides.

Any news on a release of this cracker?
-
No progress at present.

This looks really good and professional. ]wav[
I have 1 question: The Hipper and the Prince Eugen are sister ships.
They are very similar. Maybe you can open a second slot called Pince Eugen
and copy the Hipper in.
-
They were not completely identical but would look similar from a distance. First objective is to complete Hipper.
-
Roger that.
-
Hippers sister ship Prinz Eugen. - WoWS Model. The existing model has the 1945 AA armament. I may change this to reflect its 1942 armament during Operation Cereberus.

WOW Beautiful... :)
When IL-2 1946 meets World of Warships...
You have the best of both worlds!!!
-
Hi Asheshouse just wondered if you had seen this over at flightsim.com
https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php?searchid=75708537&page=2
Its a pilotable Admiral Hipper currently at this link but the page could change. Maybe helpful????
-
That link returns “no search results”
-
Same for me too for some reason? If you go onto flightsim.com, click file library then search files > fsx all files, it is still currently on page 2. There are lots of these available btw asheshouse many could be useful i believe?
-
WOW asheshouse! Being an occasional WoWs player i'm astonished. It looks perfect :)

Hi asheshouse, model looks fantastic probably adapt it to IL-2 standarts will be a quite difficult task but I hope that it succeeds.
Best regards,
Piotrek
-
Model is working fine in IL-2.
LOD0, shadows, hooks complete.
Collision boxes in progress.
LOD1 and LOD2 still to do.
Then, at least, some placeholder damage meshes.
Work has been stalled for a while due to medical diversions, but these are diminishing now, so I hope to make more progress.

... coming up very nicely ...! :P
Just a small suggestion regarding the Arado 196 camo, not sure at all it was that green, but rather grey or dark green, like the ship ... ;)
Here are the Bismark and Tirpitz AR 196:
http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads2&file=details&id=4939
... and here all my AR-196 skins that were based on a ship, including the one on Admiral Hipper (1940)
https://www.mediafire.com/file/hs4t3ra5poc8mfw/AR-196.7z/file
-
Thanks Mick. The Lo-Poly Ar196 came from a Silent Hunter model. What I really need is to extract the Ar196 model meshes from IL-2 and maybe use the LOD1 meshes. I've not got around to doing that yet.
-
That looks very good. ash! Love the fine details. Awesome! :)
-
;D Good boy ! Excellent choice for this model! I follow your progress with trepidation. ;)
-
Good news!!!
-
looking very good 8), and as I see it almost ready for action.

Smaller subject for the next project perhaps. This is the Type 39 Torpedo Boat of which 15 were built. Employed in Biscay, The Channel, Northsea and Baltic.
(https://i.postimg.cc/ZRqpg3rn/Capture.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/GBZ4T4gn)
Armed with 4 10.5cm guns in single mountings and 2 triple 21in torpedo tubes, along with a variety of AA guns.
On this model AA comprises 2 twin 37mm guns, 1 quad 20mm and 4 twin 20mm.
Source of the model is WoWS, extracted by Maxromash.

The Z39 is a Type 1936A destroyer. I am working on the T22, a Type 39. Much smaller type. A useful escort vessel.

... ooops, just change a letter, Z to T, and you get a different ship ...! :-[

A Torpedo Boats nice,
-
It looks very good!!!
-
:) Beautiful torpedo boat! Would it be excessive for the load of use to add some members of the crew, perhaps to the machine guns ... just to give a touch of realism, more, to this jewel? ;)
-
@Stanislao: I second that! Has been my thought longtime, especially since we do have deckcrews for CV's who make it all much more real! I also dream about sounds for ships like sirens or horns or maybe signal-lamps flashing etc. But maybe too much to ask, dunno what is possible gamewise... ;)

... Deutschland-class "Panzerschiff" Graf Spee ...?
ooops, silly me, Graf Spee only had one front and rear turret ... :-[
This confirms I don't know much about ships ...! 8)
... my last guess, Scharnhorst ...?
-
Last guess - spot on.
-
I can’t wait for H-class Battleship to turn up.
Best Regards KT503
-
I’ve not got much interest in fantasy ships, however the Graf Zeppelin CV was maybe far enough advanced to be considered virtually a reality. My main focus tho is likely to remain with warships that saw actual wartime service.
-
... I can't agree more ...! ;)
-
Also cannot agree more! Those wet dream third Reich super weapons that never had a chance to get realised really don't belong into the sim!
We could use more Torpedo Boat class ships, Sperrbrecher, maybe a S-100 S-boat, maybe also the odd Hilfskreuzer...such ships would make sense...
The Scharnhorst/Gneisenau will be great additions too, I am looking forward to seeing these join the virtual fleet..
Maybe also a repaint for the Hipper as everything is here already to add it to the sim, we have the classfiles, the 3d model and the it...
-

The German Light cruisers Köln one of the Königsberg class light cruiser was commissioned In 1930s, until 1945, it was sunk by the American bombers. But Köln was modified a Landing platform for Experiment FI-282 To the Testbed.

Well don't wanna spoil the party here too much but don't we have a lotta planes that never made it to the battlefield or at least were just plans, maybe just prototypes etc.!? Who's "upset" about those masterpieces!? o_O Dunno if it is that "annoying" to have some fictious stuff as well. And "Grosser Kurfürst" for ex. would make my day a lot and could be the main attraction of exciting new missions and campaigns, maybe also in the future scenario "The Attack on the USA" when we now have Me-264 (new cockpit anyone!?) and so could create a very new chapter with US-maps etc. . Ships are amazing also in our game and this new quality Ashe is coming up with teases, wakes the appetite and makes wanting more and even makes wanna wish a total overhaul of our fleets -seriously - look at the fine details of the new ships. That is a milestone ahead if you ask me. :-* And for Auxilary Cruiser I would love to see the "Orion" cos my dad was sailing on her. That would mean a lot to me. Just saying. Alright, where's "Mr. Scharnhorst"!? :D ;)
-
Well, to be honest I do not like most of those fantasy planes either... If some people need their wet fantasies about German super wonder weapons that kill their opponents with one shot of a super duper 50mm gatling MKwhatever fine, but pls annoy the WarThunder crowd....
Also, what attack on the USA scenarios??? Did I miss something? Nazi Germany did not have the resources to sustain an attack on the East Coast with anything but submarines.
If you read about the Me-264, you will see that it was far from being an Amerika-bomber as envisaged...it could maybe reach the East Coast, but the payload would be ridiculously small for that purpose and without an escort, the 264 would have just been a big fat target for any fighter attacking it...
And don't get me going on the fleet programs of the Nazis...complete and unfulfillable crap...
Sorry for the rant but IMHO it would make more sense to fill the few voids that are still there with regard to missing planes that really were used in the war and any ships are more than welcome, as long as they really operated in the war...
-
The super dreadnoughts were never a good way for germany to use its limited resources of steel. What would be more useful. One super dreadnought or alternatively say 1000 Panther tanks. Uses roughly the same quantity of steel. If they had proceeded with them then Britain could have countered by completing the Lion Class Fast Battleships, two of which were already laid down. Along with the existing fleet carriers the RN would have maintained a significant lead.

... very nice ships art by Carlo Cestra here:

While the Italian cruiser designs were mostly based on flawed tactical and doctrinal thinking, they were really beautiful ships..
-
The Italian warships are some of my favourites. Its maybe about time that my Caio Duilio model had some company?
-
About that Köln light cruiser, one of the Königsberg class, was modified a landing platform.
-
There was a FI-282 model around somewhere I think?
-
asheshouse,
Thank you for bringing us these highly detailed ships. Your ships have always been stunning and these latest ones are no exception.
Your ships are so good that they remind me of experience from CFS2 days. A modder at the time turned a combat flight sim into a semi-ship sim by introducing (at that time) highly detailed ship models into the sim (examples of those converted to FS2004 models can be seen below).
There was no fine ship navigation control nor detailed ship damage modeling so it wasn't really a full fledged ship sim. It had however camera views set up on different parts of the ship so that one could feel like a spectator/ crew on these ships. It was quite something to watch from these angle in game while an air attack or naval battle unfolded.
Thank you again.
Cheers,

Nice model of Schnellboat S38 available here, but you need to register to download it https://gamemodels3d.com/games/warthunder/vehicles/germ-s38
-
;D Yeah! You have to pay five dollars to register on the site ... and then how much will they want to download the model? Could we collect it ...... just to say?
-
:) This site has free downloads ... it is not of the same level, but the torpedoboats seem interesting enough ... take a look.

For 3$ you can get the War Thunder version from Gamemodels3d. It looks like a better model.
-
:) This site has free downloads ... it is not of the same level, but the torpedoboats seem interesting enough ..
The files on that site are all in *.im format. They would need to be converted to *.obj or *.max to be of any use.
-
:( No, no, with such a polygonal weight, as you put it in the water it sinks like a stone ... !!! ::(
(If this is so angular I can't imagine the WarThunder one ..........)
-
:-[ Converting files is a religion that I don't know ... and then I think I'm agnostic ...... I'm sorry! ;)
-
;D If it really costs only 3 dollars to download, I swear I will do it immediately and then I will send you the model to check! ;)
-
If you go to the trouble of registering in order to get the model then i will definitely spend some time on it. My preference would be to work on the earlier S38 type which I previously linked rather than the later S100.
-
:) :D ;D Yes, dear Asheshouse, I signed up, but I don't understand why, as an Italian, the registration cost 5 dollars + the PayPal commission ... however then the download is included! If the files are transformable WarThunder is truly a gold mine for us! Check ! LInk: https://www.mediafire.com/file/p7v4poa87mvo0y4/WarThunder-Ships.rar/file ;)

My work schedule is filling up. Some minor scaling issues with the import, but easy to sort out.
Nice work Ashe. I've been following this thread with much interest -
Do I understand correctly that the 3d models on the site you mentioned can be purchased for import?
I have registered on the site but I think this is way beyond my skill level, but are there any tutorials explaining how to do this? What programs are needed etc.?
Any advice welcome - I would love to have some of those RN and US cruisers from the WOW list.
If anyone wants any of the models I will get them
-
The main software tools I use are 3ds Max, Photoshop and a text editor. Also some tools for creating class files. There is a lot to learn. Main tutorials for 3d work are here https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/board,207.0.html
-
Looking at the details of that Schnellboot, one almost wish for the boat to be available as a pilotable multi-crew 'craft' with machine gunner positions controllable.
Not a request, but wistful thinking perhaps.

It is beautiful, excellent work!
-
This Dreadnought is a Monster, but What about a Hindenburg class battleship.
-
The Scharnhorst and Gneisenau were more Battlecruisers than Dreadnoughts, a term that was reserved for real battleships which both the Gneisenau and the Scharnhorst clearly were not!
and as already said, a H-Class battleships is about as necessary for the sim as an Airbus Beluga... there are many ships still missing in IL2 that saw real use and would be more useful for campaigns than your wet-dream battleship; want examples? USN DE destroyer escorts; RN cruisers, no matter which class, useful for MTO scenarios; USN Allen M. Sumner DDs; RN Rodney class BBs; some more Italian DDs and CA/CLs; French CA/CL/DDs;
-
My interests will return to the Med after Scharnhorst is completed.

Yesssss....the Med sounds great :)

Mr. ashehouse for President!!! ;)
-
o_O Wow! Asheshouse, now the requests are raining .. a hailstorm!
Please take it easy, we are not here to do naval collecting ......... ;)
-
I've been spending more time looking at the Schnellboot. Converting it to be compatible with IL-2 is possible but due to the way that the textures are applied the conversion would be quite time consuming. I think my time is better spent on the Regia Marina subjects at present. This would be a great subject to be made pilotable though.
So if anyone is keen to take on the java work required, including activating the gun positions, then drop me a PM.

I think I've just about worked out the nuances of converting from War Thunder. Its a little different to WoWS models due to the use of Multi-Subobject materials. Also they include a lot of internal details and divisions which I guess are relevant to the way the damage modelling works, but not required in IL-2. The wires are not modelled as solid so do not remain visible far enough out, so may have to substitute solids? --- Solved, by adding Layer1 to the mat file so as to drop the Alpha channel at the point where the wires would otherwise disappear.

To enable use of the Object Viewer with new ships extract the two attached files into the i18n folder.
Entries have only been added for Scharnhorst, Prinz Eugen and T-22. If you want to add more entries the required format is similar.

This is the M Class Escort. Model sourced from War Thunder. With these models it is necessary to rebuild all the wires and railings to make them appear correctly in IL-2.
Import of the model is nearing completion. These ships were widely used in the English Channel for escorting coastal convoys and for mine laying.
In addition to guns they also carried two torpedo tubes midships. These were primarily for defence rather than attack.

wow! another great addition!
IIRC the British dubbed them "Channel Destroyers" because they had at least the fighting power of the usual Destroyers (older WW1 leftovers mostly) that the RN used in the Channel flotillas....

"No, officer. These are only defensive torpedoes!"
