Title: Spookie's Markings
Post by: JG54Spookie on September 03, 2009, 06:20:47 PM
I previously posted this markings pack over at AAA and got some praise for it, but it got lost in the depths over there, so I'm posting it here as well. My original goal was to make decals for McWolf's Decalshine mod look as good or better than the ones for MAT Manager because I was tired of my cache folder filling up with MATs. It contains new national markings, new Luftwaffe JG emblems, new Luftwaffe fuselage numbers/symbols, as well as fuselage numbers for most other countries. So, here it is if you don't already have it.

Please see the readme file for a detailed description of the contents as well as the installation process.

Warning: You must have McWolf's Decalshine to use these markings.

Thanks guys. I'm thinking of doing some more unit emblems; probably US ones (because there's lots of resources for them).

Title: Possible to add Stab Schwarm markings?
Post by: Kopfdorfer on September 30, 2009, 02:12:08 PM
Hi Spookie,

I just wanted to thank you for this mod - I have been a dead keen Mat Manager user for several years now, but my poor old computer is staggering from my lack of discipline in selecting mods,  and everywhere I can trim things up helps out. Your markings mod is a wonderful sub for MAt Manager.
Is it possible to add in further stab schwarm markings into the individual aircraft ids?

Yeah, I could make different Stab markings, however the mod doesn't let you use different markings for different plane types (like in MAT Manager). The decalshine mod just replaces the default markings. So right now you can't, say, have one type of chevron for early planes and one for late types. You'd have to swap the early one for the late one outside the game. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to get the full versatility of MAT Manager with the game's normal marking system (it might be in class files??). I was always going to make some late and alternate Stab markings though, and just swap them out when playing late war campaigns. With that said, would you like me to make a set of different Stab markings?

I could also upload some templates for others to make their own markings...

That sounds like a good plan, Spookie.....then guys could go about trying to do their own markings.  ;D
Could be a mod all in itself... :D

Okay, I'll get a couple templates ready to upload then :)
The only tricky part is that an alpha channel has to be made for each image (this is what gives the marking it's level of transparency in the game). The oh-so-talented skinner vpmedia has a fairly good guide o using alpha channels over at AAA for those who have never used them in PS. I'll try to whip up a quick guide for the download to give a rough explanation too.

I must admit this is one of my favs and has transformed default skins, combine it with sas QMB and you've got a great combo!

Definitely among my Top 3 mods for IL-2, hated the stock markings from day 1!
