Hey everyone. I am just wondering how to add airports to maps? I'm not sure what software is required or how hard it is. Thanks

First, you must have the map builder version of Il2 installed. Then it is quite simple, you can copy the airfield from another map. You will find the instructions how to in Kevins tutorial No 5 :
https://www.mediafire.com/file/bawirnrsdfyc1oz/Map_Building_Tutorial_v5.rar/file (https://www.mediafire.com/file/bawirnrsdfyc1oz/Map_Building_Tutorial_v5.rar/file)

The map builder version Uzin refers to is simply the unlocked FMB (full mission builder.) This is invoked by using a different conf.ini and bldconf.ini. Years ago I had an additional game installed and dedicated for map work, but these days I just swap out the two .ini files for a session of map editing in the same game install I play with.
Search "unlocked FMB."

If it is to permanently change a maps, I pass.
If it's to add airports temporarily for a few missions, I prefer to use the ZUTI_Airfields_Friction Mod (v0.4).

An alternative would be to use the temp runways objects (found under Stationary Ships). IIRC Runway 4, 5 and 6 are big, bigger, biggest and show up in FMB as translucent red areas but are invisible in-game.
For example; I placed a temp invisible runway on my Korea map as a forward tactical runway for the Stinson. I used the white banner markers on either end as visual help and in-game I'm landing on an open field with markers
Pros
- You can place an 'airfield' anywhere you want on an existing map
- You can add objects to make it look like an airfield
Cons
- You need to find a relatively flat spot on the map
- Objects can appear to 'float' depending on the position of the 'runway' in relation to the map 'ground'
Hope this helps

Even better is to use Cannons Blankfield Plates.°
Anyway, reading Kevins tutorial v.5 is very useful for unerstanding the topic more thoroughly.
