Map Update in Preparation - Djibouti Revision
« on: October 30, 2010, 01:42:19 PM »

Here are a few screenshots of an update for the Djibouti map. It will be a 3rd version of this map, but aside from some retexturing, the map features an almost complete repopulating of objects, towns, villages and sundry ... it will also have new airfields using the Friction mod, giving the whole a better look and also allowing for fun little touches like emergency landing fields here and there.

Should be finished and ready for posting in about a week's time.

These were of Djibouti city - with a small European area snuggled away in the teeming streets of an exotic city

a desert landscape and village with oil fields in the background - this last is a fictitious touch to add more elements for potential mission building

a Vichy fighter in a desert landscape

a British Hurricane at sunset

2 shots of a British encampment above

Above some views of desert towns - with thanks to uufflakke for lessons learned in making towns look better with his great SE and Desert Houses packs.

... outstanding job Agracier, I really like the first 4 screens, very realistic African city like ...

These could be used for other maps as well ... ;)

I can't say it often enough, but it's thanks to Uufflakke's new repaints of SE Houses and desert Houses that we can now get such nice effects. The housing blocks are particularly effective in making a good approximation of these kind of cities ... they give low frame rates and in conjunction with other single buildings, still keep it all acceptable.

And these could certainly be used in other maps. I've got a (long-standing) Morocco map in mind for one, but anyone is free to use whatever they wish ...

Wow, ever go to Rick's Café Americain? ... ha ha.

Seriously though, hope the look of the cities on the maps at least approximates the impression of such cities

.... I left Morocco at the age of 9 ...(my dad was born in Barcelona, and my mum in Béni Saf, small fishing harbour near Oran, Algeria, you now get why I like Africa and deserts so much...)

The cities of your map do much more than appoximating the impression of African cities of that time, in fact it's the first time (with Redko's villages) I have that feeling of "yeah, that's it man !!"  :D

Mick is right, the town looks so natural, organic, very inspirated work. There is many trees, what about fps ? Now i understand why you like so much deserts mick  :).

... I would like to see Mr.Oblongo's Tunisia map (that I have not yet been able to install... :'( ) with such cities/villages ... and a very nice campaign to go with it, there were even Tiger tanks in Tunisia ... ???

say Redko, what about revamping Mr. Oblongo's map with your textures and Ufflake's desert buildings ... :P
