Ambient Airfield Sounds v 1.02
« on: November 03, 2010, 06:00:09 AM »

Presenting a new way to bring your airfields to life :D

This mod will let you place ambient noise makers all around your airfield.

They work just like the siren object, only they stay on all the time.

Noises include 5 types of airfield background noise, lapping waves, distant artillery, and jungle ambiance.

More sounds may be added later.

Updates:
========================================================================

V 1.01: Hopefully corrected the "one sound only" issue people were having - delete old version.

V 1.02: Standardized formats for all sounds. Should help improve performance. (thanks Korrigan!)

========================================================================

Download (v 1.02): https://www.mediafire.com/?wt1pn6erclse6l9

Thanks to:

Beowolff: Initial conception / testing
Gumpy & 5./JG54_s0crazty: Soundfiles
Uuflakke: Bug testing
Korrigan: Format tweaking

Enjoy!

CY6.

I'd love it if one of the talented movie makers around here could make a little sample vid of how this mod works. I don't know how to do that stuff myself, and I couldn't think of anything to put in a picture, except cartoony "sound effects" coming from all over the place...

be sure the main ambient folder is in your MODS folder.  be sure the airfieldnoise entries are the 'last' entries under the vehicles.stationary listings...  per my list above.  ^^

they should then show up as the last entries in the FMB's stationary object viewer and be ready for placement on a map in a mission.
did all that, i tried putting it under the smoke and i tried putting it under the Siren, as the read me said. Unzipped the folder CY6_Ambient to the MODS. It loads the game fine, but refuses to show anything in the stationary objects.

its the CY6_Ambient folder and inside that are the Preset & samples folder with the other files. Jones just did a teamviewer session with me and put everything in the way it works on his pc but it still refused to show anything.

Some ideas for further enhancements as this mod develops ....

1. Auto download wav files from host/server to clients, much the same as skin downloads. That way the client does not have to have the relevant wav installed.
2. Have the sound activate just when red or blue (or other) planes are around, rather than play the sound continiously which might put stress on low-end machines.
3. Add additional options to "siren" properties tab to include options such as a continious loop or number of times to loop field, or how often to play the wav ie every 2 min.

I see more than ambient sounds, how about ground crew conversations, voice-overs with mission briefing on spawning,

The install readme says to put the additional airfield noises under the existing siren line in the stationary ini file. Can you clarify whether it should go there or at the very end of the objects list?
