Changing the colour of water.
« on: December 19, 2010, 11:14:20 AM »

There is a way to change to colour of water by adding lines in the load.ini:

WaterColorATI = 0.275 0.149 0.008
WaterColorNV = 0.275 0.149 0.008

In this case you get brown water. But what to do if someone wants to change the colour but doesn't have no clue about the numbers and their corresponding colours?
Well, there is another way to change the water:

-Create a .tga with just one colour.
-Save it as a 512x512, 8-bits .tga file and name it whatever you like but...always with TL at the end.
For instance: PacificBlueTL, WaterGreenTL, OceanGrayTL etc.
-Drop the .tga in IL2 Root Folder/Mods/Mapmods/Maps/_Tex/water (if you don't have a water folder create one)
-Open the load.ini of a map and change the line Water = water/Water.tga into Water = water/PacificBlue.tga but...without TL.

Here some examples of the different waters with in the top left corner the colour of the .tga I used for it.

Hi There,

Lately I've been messing with water colours.

Your trick just might help.

I'm trying to get a very dull, cold, dreary looking gray/blue for a polar map.

Cheers Kirby

So there is another question:

How to achieve non or very small coast foam (shore foam) ? Like in new Tunisia map:

I would like to apply it in some other maps... I guess it should be some line in load.ini ?!?

Cheers Uuflake very useful! :)

@ Blond, that's only a matter of tweaking the map_T manually at the coast. Let me the map you want and I show you an example. I'd swear that the piece of coast you point below doesn't show well in Excellent mode :)

Thanks Uufflakke! Nice tip.

WhiteCat:
As you showed up and replied, would it be possible to add some beachbreaks at your repainted big Hawaii islands map, e.g. at Oahu Waimea bay and Jaws/Maui:
Which would be here..
http://maps.google.de/maps?oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:de:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=jaws,+Maui&fb=1&gl=de&hq=jaws,&hnear=Maui&cid=0,0,8158622787255415155&ei=c2RETaurH4zEswa8hvmlDg&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=image&resnum=3&ved=0CDgQnwIwAg

I really LOVE your repaint and that map from Saburo Sakai and Porto anyway, cannot stress that enough but as a (very poor) surfer, I always felt the islands would be even greater with..some waves or beachbreaks at some 4-5 points. :)

Cheers

Thanks!

Cheers!

Hello, WhiteCat, please don't feel obliged to put the "beachbreak" on your list.
That map repaint is a piece of art, that foam thing is only my thought of Hawaii and I would not be disappointed if it would not happen. If it is doable at one later time-very cool-if not-no problem at all.
I thank you for that repaint I fly over almost every day. :)

@ Blond, that's only a matter of tweaking the map_T manually at the coast. Let me the map you want and I show you an example. :)

Well, i am making few versions of your Chichi Shima... one of my favourites for Zero actions.
So how would I decrease shore foam...?

@Uufflakke, Many thanks for this water tweaking tutorial ! :)

Hi, I was able to do that in Iwo but not in other maps. Maybe the reason was that I was using a different map_C or something. I think that can obtained by changing the map_C so at the coast the engine thinks that there's not coast and therefore it doesnt' paint the waves.

Sorry I thought I was going to be of help.

Isn't it just a matter of using the "coast river" tex instead of the "coast sea" tex? Or am I missing something??

Re a small surf, instead of a large one, my guess is that involves the shade of dark grey/black in the map_c. The lighter the grey (up to 127 when it turns to land), the more shallow the water and I suspect it also governs the presence or absence of surf.
