thanks guys. that helped a bit. i did make sure to look into a lot of the things before putting everything in but i guess i just didnt look at the specifics enough. my gpu im replacing is requiring at least 450W minimum and a 24A +12V rating (what it said on the box). i am getting a 650W PSU with a +12V rating of 52A for the same price that the PSU that burned out was. oh, and i looked at my psu i have at it had 3 12V ratings, 22, 22, and 25. what do these mean? also, could u please check if my build is all compatible:
1 x ASUS M4A87TD EVO AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard (it didnt come with a speaker for the warning beeps, it doesnt say it was supposed to)
1 x G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM
1 x CORSAIR Enthusiast Series CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply
1 x ASUS ENGT240/DI/1GD3/A GeForce GT 240 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

(all copied from my order history list on newegg, except PSU, go there for the specs to everything, and i already know the ram is compatible with the mobo)

another question, is it required to use the SATA cable that came with the mobo to use for the HDD and disk drive? becasue i was using the ones that came with my computer since i didnt know if my HDD and disk drive would support the speed stated on the cables from the mobo (i think it said 6GB/s)

I'll check out those specs l8r,

As I said before the system speaker doesn't come with the mainboard - it comes built into the case!

Try not to skip this function because it seems too difficult - it's very important and will be required, if not now, then at some point in the future - every mainboard Beeps once during the boot up

650Watt will cover it, the psu has 3 x 12volt rails 2 are 22Amp and 1 is 25Amp
Old IDE hard drives all used to be 12volt but modern SATA drives require considerably less so you'll have plenty of power to spare.
Just remember, as well as the 24 pin power cable, there is a 4 pin 12Volt cable that has to be plugged into the socket on the mainboard

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Model F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM
The mainboard manual doesn't list this exact model as being compatible but it is close: 7-8-7-24 timing and 1.65Volts. The memory should be mounted in channel A on this board that means 2GB in slot one and 2GB in slot 3 (in other words not side by side). If there are compatibility issues the Beep code will tell you. You won't know for sure until you've heard it do this or you've seen it count up the available memory on screen...

ASUS ENGT240/DI/1GD3/A GeForce GT 240 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card
Yep that's Ok; it's not an SLI card so mount it in the top (blue) PCI 16 slot. If it's wrong the Beep code will tell you.

SATA drive cable - (it doesn't really matter) just use the newest one you have

Have another look inside the front of your case to find the speaker cable which plugs on to the front panel section of your mainboard

there isnt one, like i said, there is a cable that looks like a speaker cable that says vcc, +5v, +5v, ground, but its not a speaker cable. my last mainboard came with a little attachable speaker, but this one didnt, and the little speaker no longer works cuz it was out it the snow. also, im pretty sure the psu i picked this time came with 1 +12V rail instead of 3, and the rating is 52A, will that cover everything?

That cable is for a front panel USB socket

52Amp will cover everything - your video card doesn't require its own power supply (some do) so 650W / 52A will be fine

I'm glad you found a way to incorporate a system speaker (I told you it was cheap) - that's real progress!! At least now if you can't see what's going on you'll be able to hear it...

As HundertzehnGustav said - shame about the snow - I never discard any electronic PC component until I've proved beyond a shadow of doubt that it's dead, even then I'd rob out everything that was removable from it before leaving it to the elements..

You're moving in the right direction - well done

And well done for finding that speaker/speaker cable

going from memory, there should be two spots on your mobo for that. take the USB cable and plug it into one of the USB connectors  close to your SATA connectors on the lower boirder of the mobo.

--> RTFM ^^

redrum
Would not it been easier to send the specs to a good computer maker and have them put it together for you. You are having fun are you not. I remember my first one I put together back in the 70s.
