delvpiers 'Remove Object' tool
« on: January 15, 2011, 06:14:42 PM »

Hi all,

I've got a copy of delvpiers 'Remove Object' tool - a way of removing particular objects from an inBuildings.txt (options include all of the type, half of them, 1 in 5 etc). I've used it successfully before when I removed the trees from my Channel map (for the 'lite' actors) but I can't get it to work now. I'm guessing it's quite a rare tool, because Google gives me nothing.  Does anyone else have it? Used it? Or alternatively, have a way I can get in contact with delvpier himself?

Thanks

Joe

I have a copy of the tool, or at least a tool called Object Remover - it has an html driven interface with a file called 'GUI.html' and a 'RemoveObj.vbs' file.

I haven't used it, but I can give a copy of it to try out if you wish.

Hi agracier,

Yeah, that's the tool, but it doesn't work for me. I'm not sure why because it used to.

Any chance you could see if it works for you? Just point it towards an inBuildings, select something like 'treeline' to remove and see if it does anything.

I tried it with an inbuilding.txt extracted from a map - but it doesn't really do anything. I checked to make sure I was asking to remove something that was present in the inbuilding - a furniture treeline - but it didn't remove a single instance ...

I tried it with several other inbuildings files but still nothing ...

A shame - it sounds like a useful tool.

It's weird, because I had used it before and it worked.

Anyway, Boomer, thanks for the suggestion. Looks like a great way of removing all of a particular object. However, do you know how to make it delete 'every other' object? I.e. Half the trees, not all of them?

I've managed a workaround using Excel and TextPad - removing all the non-trees, pasting into excel, removing a third (randomly), pasting back into TextPad and combining with a de-tree'd building actors.

Thanks for the suggestion, Boomer

Why don't you use the Zuti actors management tool ?

The tabs : filter/randomize/rename appear good to delete/replace some kinds of objects ?
(I intend to use it to replace some snowy objects by their summer equivalent in my WestFront map...)

Extract from the readme:
Quote
IL2 Actors Filter:

If you want to reduce object density in some areas you can do it with this tab. You can also either copy or ignore specific objects from original data. For instance, you decide that you don't want some buildings that you placed on the map. Just write it's name (or part of it) in the "Ignore" list and press "Process" button under that window. That's it, out file will be without that object. Lines in »Copy« and »Ignore« lists must be separated with ';'. Also, you can have predefined lines saved in files Z_Copy.txt and Z_Ignore.txt under »applicationRoot\Filter\Settings\« folder. If those two files are missiog or are empty some predefined lines are loaded.

Filtering gives you two options: "Filter(H)" and "Filter(S)". First one compares objects to all already read objects. If you have big file this method is SLOW but is better than other one. "Filter(S)" is fast but it only compares one object to next one in the *.txt file. I usually use the slow method myself.

I didn't already tested it but I successfully use this tool for all my actors manipulations .

I thought about that but I couldn't work out how to set it to reduce the density of a particular object, not all objects.

Save 01, then delete all objects except the one you want to reduce, then reduce , save to 02 ...
reload 01, then delete the previous object, then save as 03.
Merge 02 & 03, you have what you want, no ?

...MAybe a little complicated ?  ;)

True, that works.  I managed a similar work-around using Excel and TextPad
