Hi Folks,

Same aircraft, same situation, shortly before, when being inspected by U.S.:
The images show a G4M1, S/N or marking unknown.
The photos were taken on August 8th 1944, after the U.S. Guadalcanal invasion.
If you like to get an impression on what was going on there, just imagine that on August 7th, right after the invasion started, the japanese threw 27 G4M bombers and several zero's against the U.S. forces (they couldn't find the carriers so they tried to sink the landing crafts), of which none survived. All were shot down or waterlanded on their attempt to rtb.
The next day (when these photos were taken), the japanese attempted to attack again with app. 20 G4M bombers and several zero's, this time they lost about half of their aircrafts, but managed to hit the destroyer USS Jarvis (torp hit) and the transport ship USS George F. Elliott (hit by crashed G4M).
See below an image of attacking G4M:
And, last but not least, an image of a japanese Pilot taken part on the attacks, Saburo Sakai, being helped out of his aircraft after he made a 4+ hour flight to base with a serious injuries, Rabaul, New Britain, Solomon Islands, 8 Aug 1942:
