Some background info on that particular 335:

It's a Do-335A-0, S/N 240105, Code VG+PL, delivered to Erprobungskommando 335 and found in a revettment at the northeast corner of the München-Riem airfield by U.S. troops in April 1945. Some sources state it should have been at Lechfeld, but that's wrong. Others say the code was VG+IK or VG+PK, both of which is wrong as well.
It's one out of 10 A-0 aircraft built, manufactured in Oberpfaffenhofen in September 1944.

There's a matching skin pack available at M4T:

Hi,
The pilot getting in/out of that Thunderbolt in today's banner picture (Sept. 17, 2011) is:  Alwin Juchheim of the 83th Fighter Squadron, 78th Fighter Group, based at Duxford UK.  He went down to become a POW on May 28th 1944 after colliding head-on with the P-51B flown by Anthony Ladas of the 382nd squadron, 363rd Fighter Group.  Ladas was killed in the collision.  Juchheim's T-Bolt (not the one in the photo) crashed near Jeggau, Germany and the wreckage of the Ladas P-51 crashed near Sichau, Germany.

All the banner pictures are great, but this one is strangely evocative or haunting...something like futuristic archaelogy in the past, You know what I mean? In two short words: awe-some.

No, that's a photo, but IIRC it's colorized from a B/W original.
